At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education.
We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by sharing your first aid skills and knowledge. As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.
Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives.
Through volunteering as a Community First Aider, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time.
We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. We will also provide you with a supportive environment while you are volunteering with us. Information about our volunteer roles are included in the role descriptions. Established in 1948, the US-UK Fulbright Commission works to advance knowledge, promote civic engagement, and develop compassionate leaders through education exchange between the peoples of the US and the UK. Our vision is to help build a world in which there are no obstacles to learning, understanding and collaboration. The organisation is governed by a Board of Commissioners (Trustees).
At this significant moment for international education exchange, we are seeking a new Trustee who shares a strong interest and is committed to Fulbright’s mission and working in service of a bi-national organisation. We are particularly interested in candidates with previous experience in the legal and compliance sector, senior leadership in UK higher education, or with professional exposure to the interface between higher education and the UK government.
The Trustees currently meet three times a year with various Trustee committees meeting regularly in between. The position is unremunerated, non-executive and for a three-year term which can be renewed for a further three years. Candidates must be a UK citizen or have dual citizenship with the UK and normally should be resident in the UK, and able to attend UK based in person board meetings.

Honorary Treasurer (Trustee)
Foundation for Science and Technology
The Foundation for Science and Technology is at the heart of the UK’s science and technology policy landscape. For nearly 50 years, we have provided an independent platform bringing together Parliamentarians, civil servants, industry leaders, researchers and charities to explore the most pressing issues shaping the future of science, innovation and public policy.
From artificial intelligence and quantum technologies, to net zero, research culture and skills, the Foundation convenes informed, cross-sector debate and supports the development of future leaders across the UK science and technology ecosystem.
As we approach our 50th anniversary in 2027, we are seeking an Honorary Treasurer to join our Trustee Board and play a key role in supporting the Foundation’s continued impact and sustainability.
The role
As Honorary Treasurer, you will be a full member of the Trustee Board, sharing collective responsibility for the governance and strategic direction of the Foundation.
This is a non-executive role, focused on governance, oversight and constructive challenge. As a trustee, you will contribute to the stewardship of the Foundation, helping to ensure its financial sustainability, integrity and long-term success.

Time commitment

Purpose of the role

The purpose of the Board of Directors is to provide leadership, guidance, checks and balances on the structure and operation of the organisation.
The Board of Directors:
Fulfils the duties and responsibilities of Company Directors
Advises on and approves strategic plans, annual roadmaps, and budgets, and any changes to these
Identifies any risks to the organisation and advises on these
Advises on and approves organisational policies and commitments, including grant and commercial agreements
Advises on and approves organisational structure, including the structure and composition of the Board and any other Boards and Committees it deems necessary
Provides oversight on the Executive Director, including their appointment, performance reviews, remuneration decisions, and delegated powers
Additional duties as Treasurer:
Chair the Finance and Risk committee
Monitor the financial sustainability of the organisation
Take a lead in interpreting financial information to fellow Directors
Support the team in their participatory budget setting process
Make sure that all financial policies, procedures and the appointment of external support are reviewed regularly
Provide guidance on the preparation of the annual accounts where necessary
Provide ad-hoc support to the Senior Operations Officer who deals with the day-to-day finances (using Xero)
Support the production of management accounts

The Practicalities
Time commitment:
We have four full board meetings per year. Three of these are online and last for two hours, and one longer full day meeting is in person (likely in London. All costs will be covered). Directors are expected to attend these, and come prepared, having read all board papers in advance.
We have additional committees such as Finance and Risk, and the Treasurer will be expected to chair this committee. There may be other events that Directors are invited to attend, and other opportunities to get involved. We also expect that Directors will provide ad hoc support based on their expertise and available time, with the Treasurer working with the Senior Ops Officer, Executive Director, and Chair to prepare and secure support for our budget and other key financial processes. We estimate the time commitment to be around one day per month (with peaks during the financial cycle).

understanding of campaigning, advocacy, and organising practice

At CISWO, The Coal Mining Charity, our mission is to improve the lives of individuals and communities facing disadvantage due to the impact of the coal mining industry, delivering services across all former coalfield areas in the UK. We do this through the provision of practical support and advice for former miners and their families, community investment, and the protection and improvement of recreational land.
We are currently seeking to broaden the skills and experience of our Board of Trustees and would particularly welcome individuals with previous trustee experience, and strong charity governance knowledge. We would also welcome applicants with expertise in fundraising, marketing and communications, or risk management, and from those with an interest in serving in a Chair or Vice Chair position.
Successful candidates will have experience operating at a senior level within a large and/or complex organisation (in either a paid or voluntary capacity). You will be able to demonstrate effectiveness in your field, bring strategic insight, and take a solutions-focused approach to supporting the work and future direction of the charity.
