Job description

This December, some of our amazing supporters are putting down their mince pies and pulling on their trainers to raise funds at our festively fantastic Jingle Bell Jog! The funds they raise will help us to support cancer patients and their loved ones this Christmas, and beyond.

We’re looking for volunteers to help support the event by getting festive, pointing our runners in the right direction and keeping them motivated around the stunning course.

By helping us at this event, you’ll be supporting inspiring people like Kev. Kev took up running as part of his recovery from cancer and has raised an amazing amount of money through running events. Kev said “Supporting Tenovus Cancer Care has enriched my life and given me so much - new friends, better fitness and amazing opportunities and experiences.” If you’re able to support us at this event, we’d love to hear from you.

What will I be doing?

Event Support Volunteers x18 (9am-1pm)

  • Supporting with event registration
  • Cheering race participants on as they tackle the 2.5k, 5k or 10k course
  • Marshalling the route, pointing runners in the right direction around the course and handing out water
  • Other event support as directed by the Events Fundraising Manager.

Event Photographers x 2 (10am – 1pm)

  • Helping us capture the atmosphere of the event
  • Taking photographs of the event and race participants before, during and after the race.

What skills and qualities do I need?

  • A fun, friendly and outgoing personality
  • Confidence and good communication skills
  • An enthusiasm for the work of Tenovus Cancer Care
  • Photographers will be required to bring their own camera equipment
  • Wearing festive outfits is encouraged, but optional!

What benefits can I expect?

  • The satisfaction of knowing you’re making a vital difference to Tenovus Cancer Care, our research and the people who access our services
  • You’ll be given free entrance to the National Botanic Garden of Wales following the event
  • You’ll be given a Tenovus Cancer Care t-shirt to wear on the day and a warm outdoor jacket to protect you from the elements
  • We’ll reimburse reasonable travel expenses in line with organisational policy and you’ll be given a voucher for drink on the day
  • The opportunity to volunteer at a fun, festive event where you’ll meet lots of new people and be part of #teamtenovus!

How much time do I need to commit?

We appreciate any time you can give, but ideally…

Event Support volunteers will arrive at 9am and be able to stay until 1pm.

Event Photographers will arrive at 10am and be able to stay until 1pm.

Please note your availability on your application form.

What support and training will I be given?

  • You’ll be provided with an event brief before the day
  • You’ll be supported by the events team on the day and will be joined by other volunteers (and maybe some elves) too.

Where will I be based?

  • You’ll be with the Tenovus Cancer Care events team, meeting at the reception area of the National Botanic Garden of Wales and located at various points across the race route
  • The Jingle Bell Jog takes place on 1st December 2019, between 11am and 1pm.
