Job description

Our European headquarters, IRC-UK, were established in London in 1997 to support the organisation’s global activities and particularly to diversify its donor base and be able to better advocate with European policy-makers on behalf of the people we serve. Since its establishment IRC-UK has grown rapidly and is now acknowledged for its high quality project management, technical expertise in governance and rights and economic recovery, and innovative thinking on early recovery and gender based violence. The IRC also has offices in Berlin, Brussels and Geneva.

IRC-UK comprises approximately 100 staff across five departments.

 The Purpose of the Role

The Revenue Analyst is a new role that supports the Finance and Fundraising Departments as their key partner in financial analysis and reporting on both income and expenses.

The post holder will undertake financial duties across the Fundraising Department and Restricted grant.Specific responsibilities include developing budgets, reforecasts and models for income and expenditure; setting up a coding structure that enables monitoring of income, expenditure and ROI by team and funding stream; ensuring accurate coding of income and expenditure; lead on monthly reconciliations between the fundraising CRM and finance system; and producing, analysing, interpreting and reporting on fundraising data, including the monthly fundraising management accounts to support business decision-making.

Scope and Authority


  •  The post holder does not manage any staff or have signing authority.

Responsibility for Resources:

  •  The post holder has no budget holder responsibilities.

Key Working Relationships

The Revenue Analyst has dual reporting to the Head of Finance in the Finance Department and the Senior Manager Strategic Operations in the Fundraising Department and also works closely with colleagues throughout Finance. They will also work regularly with staff throughout GPP units (Marketing, Leadership Gifts) in London and New York. Externally they will deal with our CRM platform and merchant suppliers.


Key Accountabilities 

Budgeting and Planning (20%)

  •  Support the Senior Manager Strategic Operations with analysis, review of submitted proposed annual and multi-annual fundraising budgets (Revenue and Base/Investment Expense) within the agreed organisational timetable and in accordance with procedures.
  •  Coordinate inputs from the Fundraising teams both in the UK and New York.
  • Prepare reforecast of income and expenditure twice per year, including additional funding requests supported by budget narratives and analysis of return on income of new investments.
  • Propose improvements to the coding of fundraising income and expenditure to enable fundraising teams to monitor income, expenditure and ROI by team and funding stream.

Income and Expenditure Reporting & Monitoring (20%)

  •  Produce, analyse, interpret and report on fundraising data, including the monthly Fundraising management accounts, to meet the business needs of the Fundraising Department.
  •  Gather in-depth knowledge of the composition of revenue flows, sources and general restrictions (unrestricted, restricted appeals or contributions) given over the course of the financial year.
  •  Provide an accurate and timely month end process for Fundraising.
  •  Work with Fundraising managers on expenditure targets and ensure major issues are escalated.

Reporting & Analysis (10%)

  •  Tracking and analysis of fundraising appeals and projects; cost-revenue ratios by fundraising unit; as well as other KPIs on a monthly and annual basis.
  •  Review solicitation documentation (e-mails, letter copy, telemarketing script, etc.) for unrestricted and restricted appeals.

Reconciliation between Finance and Fundraising systems (30%)

  •  Lead on monthly reconciliations between the fundraising CRM and finance system, and incorporate relevant data into the appropriate management accounts, Board papers and Trustee Reports.
  •  Identify ways to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the data reconciliation, increasing automation and reducing the risk of errors in a timely manner.
  • Document processes for financial management and reconciliation with respect to fundraising data.

Fundraising and Finance Systems (10%)

  •  Identify risks associated with financial systems, propose and document controls or actions to mitigate such risks, and monitor effectiveness of controls.
  •  Contribute to the design of the Enterprise Resource Planning software scheduled for roll out in the UK in 2020 to ensure it is configured to meet the needs of the UK Fundraising Department.
  • Map out and continuously review merchant vendor relationships to ensure that funds raised can be tracked through regular reporting, and fees for handling income are reasonable.

General Support (10%)

  •  Provide general finance support including data entry to staff in the Fundraising Department as required.
  •  Work with the Head of Finance, Senior Manager Strategic Operations and Director of Finance and Operations on special projects on an ad hoc basis. 



Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications:

  •  Finalist or Qualified Accountant (CCAB recognised body) or Qualified Accounting Technician
  •  Good knowledge of GAAP and SORP 2015
  • Strong financial and accounting skills
  • IT literacy: proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Exceptional organisation skills including the ability to plan and prioritise work
  • Ability to diagnose and solve problems with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform under pressure and prioritize effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal awareness and communication skills
  • Proactive approach to identifying issues and propose solutions or new procedures
  • Excellent attention to detail with the data when working with large volumes of data and reports


  •  Experience in carrying out financial reconciliations
  •  Experience of supporting the financial elements of fundraising
  • Some experience of working in a similar role in a UK charity providing finance support to fundraising


  •  Experience using Raiser’s Edge and Sales Force Customer Relationship Management solutions
  •  Experience using SUN, Vision XL and Microsoft Dynamics 365 finance systems
