Development Director

Main Purpose and Scope of the Role

The Development Director will be a key part of the Action4Youth Senior Management Team, contributing to strategic development of the whole organisation and taking responsibility for the leadership and management of all aspects of business development, sales, fundraising, marketing and communications.

The Development Director will ensure development to support the Strategic and Operational Plans in order to achieve growth, sustainability and stability and to support the Action4Youth core offer i.e.  programme delivery and outdoor education.

Because Action4Youth is a relatively small organisation, teams are small and this means that even senior members of the team like Directors may have to cover for a team member when on leave or generally help out as necessary to achieve targets. In this particular role, that could mean undertaking basic tasks like completing a funding bid to meet a deadline, updating a webpage, writing blog posts or handling sales calls. This job is unusual in genuinely being both strategic and hands on.

Networking is an important part of this role so the post holder will often be expected to attend out of hours events to represent Action4Youth and to develop valuable relationships and connections.

• The line management of the Marketing, Fundraising and Sales teams, ensuring achievable but stretching targets are set and met
• Creating captivating marketing campaigns and activity to promote all areas of Action4Youth’s work and to support sales and fundraising activity
•  Managing external supply contracts for design, print, website and all communications

Duties and Key Responsibilities

Development/Sales

• To identify opportunities for the growth of Action4Youth through sales, contracts or fundraising
• To increase sales of The Caldecotte Xperience
• To increase awareness and sales of The Inspiration Programme, The Breakout Programme and other A4Y programmes and offerings
• To identify and secure appropriate new contracts in line with the strategy and business plan
• To monitor and evaluate business development success

Fundraising

• Develop and implement a fundraising strategy to take account of economic conditions and to meet the needs of Action4Youth.
• To meet fundraising targets for both the fundraising team and personally
• To be responsible for building strong relationships with fundraising bodies and partner agencies.
• To ensure reports to funders meet requirements
• Monitor and evaluate the fundraising mix
• Achieve targets as set out in KPIs

Marketing and Communication

• To be Action4Youth’s brand guardian, protecting and extending the organisation’s reputation and profile
• To initiate and manage a communications and marketing strategy which supports and enhances Action4Youth’s profile, sales and fundraising
• Oversee the development of all communications in line with the strategy including the website, PR, social and print media
• To lead on Action4Youth’s aim to be a voice for and of young people, developing a significant platform in a wide variety of fora.

Leadership

• To be a key part of Action4Youth’s leadership team
• To be responsible for the recruitment, training and appraisal of the development, fundraising and marketing teams

General Responsibilities

•  To attend, where appropriate, local, regional and national meetings
•  Support the continued development of quality standards as specified by Action4Youth.
• ·To have regard for the vision of Action4Youth and to display a commitment to equal opportunities and to the   protection and safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
•  Report any behaviour, conversations or comments which are inappropriate within a setting for children and young people.
•  To carry out any other Action4Youth duties as required by your Line Manager, CEO or Directors.
•  Administering own workload which includes meeting targets and deadlines in line with the Action4Youth   Performance Management System.
•  Attending relevant CPD training events in line with Performance Management appraisal.
•  Undertaking responsibility, as part of the team, for all Health and Safety work related matters.
•  Working within the guidelines of Action4Youth policies and procedures.

Skills, Experience and Knowledge

• Business development experience to include bid writing, fundraising and contract management
• Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle
• Proven experience of managing a staff team and motivating and developing the team over at least 5 years
• Proven record of achievement in a senior position
• Demonstrable financial management skills including budgeting and delivery of cost and income targets
• Highly organised, hard working and personally effective
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Extensive, demonstrable knowledge of marketing and communications channels
• Excellent IT skills and experience of using a CRM system ideally Salesforce
• Knowledge of the voluntary sector
• Educated to degree level or have relevant business related qualifications
• Focused, hardworking and effective
• Fundraising skills and experience in all areas of fundraising, especially in corporate and individual giving. 
• Strategic and creative thinker
• An excellent negotiator who can create and build long lasting partnerships with agencies/organisations

The LSO Development department is looking for a knowledgeable and self-motivated individual to join our team as Trusts & Foundations Officer at an exciting time in the LSO’s history. Reporting to the Trusts & Foundations Manager, the role will primarily work within the Trusts and Foundations team to establish and maintain relationships with grant-giving bodies to help meet and grow income targets. These grants support a range of LSO activities, including projects within our pioneering learning and engagement programme, LSO Discovery; our exciting artistic season at the Barbican Centre; international tours; new commissions for the LSO and recordings produced by our record label LSO Live.
 

About you

Experience in fundraising from trusts, foundations and other grant-giving bodies is essential for this role, alongside strong communication skills, high attention to detail and a passion for creating concise and compelling written copy.  An interest in orchestral/classical music is desirable.

The Trusts & Foundations Officer will also support the wider fundraising of the Department, helping to steward current and potential supporters at concerts, special events, and LSO Discovery projects taking place across east London.

·       Writing compelling applications and reports to grant-giving bodies, as well as knowledge of fundraising through trusts and foundations (at least twelve months of experience).

You will use data to test and learn, optimising opportunities for our community to support.

Blue Ventures is a marine conservation organization that puts people first. We support coastal fishers in remote and rural communities to rebuild fisheries, restore ocean life and build lasting pathways to prosperity. Our work began two decades ago in Madagascar’s remote coastal communities and is growing globally. 

Across a dozen countries, we’re partnering with traditional fishers and community organizations to design, scale, strengthen and sustain fisheries management and conservation at the community level. Summary job description 

We seek a Development and Grants Senior Officer to support our funding applications and grant reporting for Blue Ventures’ Indonesia programmes. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly expanding team with prospects for professional growth and exposure to diverse projects within our global portfolio.

We are looking for an experienced individual to support grant application management and the production of high-quality narrative and financial reports. Reporting to the Development and Grants Lead - Indonesia, the role will work closely with our field-based teams and partner NGOs in multiple countries worldwide, focusing on fundraising and grant management in Indonesia.

The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven experience in maintaining systems to keep track of funding applications and reports and ensuring accountability to and compliance with donor requirements.

Experience in the environmental conservation and international development sectors would be beneficial. Fluency in English is required.

We are looking for a Policy Officer within our Service Delivery Team. You will have demonstrable understanding of health and social care policy and related public policy developments in the UK, as well as an understanding of how policy decisions are influenced and made. You will have knowledge and experience of research and analysis relevant to health policy, as well as familiarity with and understanding of the core principles of both quantitative and qualitative research.

In this role, you will support the development and implementation of Picker's policy influencing strategy to make person centred health and social care a reality for everyone. You will be responsible for monitoring policy and political developments, promoting evidence-based policies to advanced person centred care and building and maintaining relationships within the health policy world. You will leave on the development of policy outputs including briefings, position statements and white papers, working with colleagues to build evidence and articulate Picker's messages.

• Develop and maintain a good understanding of key health and social care policy and political developments
• Lead on or assist with a range of high-profile policy projects, including the planning and development of projects, and contributing to analysis, writing and publication.
• Identifying opportunities to contribute to public policy debates in health and social care, using evidence from Picker’s work and from the public domain to provide insightful thought leadership.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to support policy analysis, responsive policy work, and to enhance Picker’s external profile across various audiences.
• Lead on and assist with written outputs, such as topic-specific briefing papers, website copy, presentations and blog posts to communicate the findings of our work.
• Carry out literature reviews and rapid scans of data and evidence to scope public policy positions on a range of key issues.
• Present evidence and findings (both in writing and orally) about highly complex and sometimes contentious subjects to a wide range of audiences, ensuring an understanding of the subject and issues arising and enabling informed decision making
• Support the drafting of responses to consultations, policy briefings, and other public policy initiatives, including relevant third party publications.
• Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, partners, and collaborators relevant to our policy portfolio, including academic and health and social care policy communities.
• Work collaboratively with other teams, creating strong links between other programmes and projects, to promote the use of services, products and survey findings that improve the quality of healthcare.

You will have:

• Understanding of health and social care policy and related public policy developments in the UK

We are looking for a Fundraising Officer to lead the administration of CCT’s tiered membership programmes, annual and church-based appeals, legacies, and fundraising events. The Fundraising Officer will also support in the creation of marketing materials to support these initiatives.

The Communications Officer is a key supporting role within the Communications team. The post holder will research, write, and publish content across various channels, liaising with teams across the organisation to help identify content. They will report to the Communications Manager and contribute to the work of the wider communications team, helping to deliver marketing campaigns and the communications strategy. Inter Mediate is one of the world’s leading independent conflict resolution organisations. Operating out of London, it works in conflict zones around the world to support peace negotiations and advise on strategies to stop and prevent wars. This is an exciting opportunity to join its small, expert projects team as a Project Development Officer, supporting Inter Mediate’s Project Directors to advance peace negotiations with a special focus on conflicts in the Middle East and Africa.  

 Role summary

The Project Development Officer (PDO) will work within the Inter Mediate Projects Team under the guidance of the Projects Directors and coordination with the Deputy CEO, Operations Team and CEO, to:

• Support and implement Inter Mediate’s existing projects portfolio supporting peace talks and other high-level peace initiatives.
• Build and manage relationships with senior stakeholders in conflict and peace processes, mainly in Africa and the Middle East
• Identify and develop entry points for new projects.
• Monitor and analyse political developments across areas relevant to Inter Mediate’s work.
• Research lessons from past peace efforts relevant to Inter Mediate’s current work.
• Support the Operations Team and Project Directors to prepare project proposals and budgets, narrative and financial reporting, and collect evidence of project impact.

Specific responsibilities:

•  Contribute to strategies to deliver Inter Mediate projects and institutional priorities.
• Support the Project Directors to cultivate and maintain relationships with key interlocutors and relevant experts in the field.
• Undertake travel, including to conflict settings.
• Draft high quality policy memos, speeches and concept notes for senior audiences.
• Provide logistical support for project delivery, including managing travel of project teams, interlocutors and consultants.
• Monitor media, think tanks and other analysis centres on conflict dynamics, and produce briefings and analytic papers for the CEO ahead of travel or engagement with key interlocutors.
• Oversee production of research papers on peacemaking lessons, based on demand from interlocutors.
• Scope for potential new projects and develop new project feasibility studies.
• Support the Project Directors and Operations Team in donor management and project accountability, including contributing to preparation of project proposals and budgets, and reporting in line with donor requirements.
• Compile project progress reports for senior management/trustees’ meetings.
• Represent IM in external contexts where necessary.
• Undertake other tasks in support of IM’s work overall as required.

Experience, qualifications and skills:

 Successful candidates would need to demonstrate:

• A masters degree in politics, conflict resolution and peacebuilding, international affairs, public policy or an equivalent subject. Relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu.
• Three years of work experience in conflict resolution or peace process support for a governmental, non-governmental or inter-governmental organisation, or an equivalent field such as diplomacy, humanitarian access, political risk advisory services, conflict journalism or conflict analysis. Experience relevant to West Africa and Middle East preferred.
• Excellent written English, and evidence of ability to produce high-quality written work to deadline.
• A strong understanding of political and conflict dynamics – particularly Africa and the Middle East - and the ability to produce well-structured and concise analysis
• Ability to operate successfully in high pressure, sensitive political environments and support high-level individuals
• Experience of work and travel in conflict-affected areas, and willingness to travel independently, with support from the Project Directors.
• Evidence of strong cross-cultural interpersonal skills.
• Flexibility and adaptability to support the smooth running of a small team, and willingness to take an “all hands on deck” approach when required.
• Fluency in French (required), Arabic (preferred) or other languages

You will be supporting business model development, private sector partnerships, project management, fundraising, capacity development and communications. You will work closely with our regional programme and partners in 20-plus countries, who are working on the ground to deliver conservation impact.

You will have an understanding of developing business plans and developing financial models. Our Business Development department is integral to the success of our organisation and we are looking for an experienced, organised and driven individual to fulfil the role of Head of Business Development. 

We are looking for someone who is comfortable in leading and co-ordinating a team. You will lead and operationally manage the department in our external business development engagement activities as well as our internal, cross-departmental collaboration working towards our ‘Evolve Strategy’.
