Bonny Downs Community Association has been working together to change lives and transform our community since 1998. Over the past 25 years our team has grown to provide a wide array of services that benefit Newham residents from all walks of life.
This role is specifically funded through the Youth Endowment fund as a pilot project ‘Thriving Communities’. You will be required to work alongside Thriving Communities commissioners, as well as the project’s Youth Justice Worker’s, Educational Psychologist, and/or professionals assigned to individual young people’s cases- such as teachers, social workers and mentors. The Thriving Communities project is a small part of a wider collaborative project, EMPOWER YOUTH, delivered by two partner charities so, although this position is based at BDCA, you will be working closely with a second East Ham Youth Partnership Project lead and team of Sessional Assistants based at nearby charity The Renewal Programme (TRP). Staff from each organisation will work together to deliver the programme and cross-refer young people to activities led by both teams. You will also be required to work with BDCA’s own Children & Families team during the summer scheme and liaise with our marketing team all year round. External partner agencies that you will work directly with include Thriving Communities panel, Newham Youth Empowerment Service, Newham Community Engagement Team, local sports clubs and schools.

As we have launched our ambitious 5-year strategic plan this post will play a key role at Greenwich Students’ Union in supporting students to stay and succeed at university.
GSU Advocacy and Policy Team is leading an award-winning outreach project that seeks to support students to stay and succeed at Greenwich. A team of part-time student staff call 1000’s of students each term, supporting them to navigate University life, services and GSU. This role will support the award-winning team to deliver proactive supportive calls to students.
In this post you will :
- To supervise the retention calling project staff
- To support with escalations for students experiencing difficulties
- To spot trends in student issues and assist with reporting

This role sits within the Advocacy and Policy Team and focus on making 1-1 timely interventions to support students to succeed as well as identifying broader trends in student behaviour to inform our strategic approach to services and support.
Duties and Key Responsibilities
This post holder will be part of the Advocacy and Policy Team and will be expected to contribute to the department’s wider objectives and planning.
Delivery of Outreach
- Coordinate the team to deliver outbound phone calls and taking inbound calls in a call centre model, including opening and closing
- Ensure that the quality of personal outreach delivery is consistent and in line with the agreed scripts and conversation structures to support students
- Ensure the team provide excellent customer service to students, at all times seeking to support students’ needs appropriately, clarifying information and providing appropriate solutions
- Support other retention and wellbeing initiatives throughout the year
Supervision
- Support with training and development of student-staff team
- Support with the scheduling of shifts, monitoring of attendance and submitting of payroll
- Undertake 1-1’s with student staff, identifying additional support
Signposting & Monitoring
- Keep accurate records of all calls and student outreach in line with provided data tools
- Support callers to identify potential concerns from students and signpost students to the most relevant support pathway
- Closely monitor for any safety or safeguarding concerns from students, and support with escalations
- Support with the analysis of issues and regular reporting as directed
Personal Learning and Responsibility
- Undertake all training and development as required within the role

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Senior Cancer Awareness Nurse on a 12 month basis.
In this role, you'll be responsible for delivering local Cancer Awareness Roadshow and Hub activity - informing and empowering people to make healthy lifestyle changes and promote early diagnosis through in-depth face-to-face interactions and signposting into local services, particularly among those at greatest risk. This will include working on Cancer Research UK's Cancer Awareness Roadshow and Cancer Awareness Hub and other health promotion activities as required.
What will I be doing?
Overseeing the day-to-day delivery of Roadshow and Hub activity in your area in line with Health Community Engagement strategy, ensuring smooth running and effective team working with the other nurse, Roadshow Logistics Manger (RLM), health workers and volunteers resolving day-to-day issues in a pragmatic way and escalating to the Cancer Awareness Nurse Manager or Senior HCE Manager when necessary
Planning a schedule of cancer awareness outreach activity that is aligned with team and directorate strategy and priorities - including scoping local venues and making recommendations, and delivering health stands, workshops and presentation to the public
Responsible for having tailored in-depth face-to-face interactions with members of the public to raise awareness of cancer, sharing evidence-based messages and encouraging people to take positive action for their health
Identifying and develop new and existing contacts in local public health teams and encouraging local health workers who are suitable and relevant to work alongside us
Ensuring that all health workers and other internal and external staff working with you are clearly briefed on their remit and boundaries prior to public-facing activity and closely monitor them throughout
Researching and producing local stats and health information and signposting sheets, and circulating to other nurse in advance
Responsible for collecting and reporting data for evaluation of activity in your area and for providing overall feedback on the activity to inform future planning
Contributing to other general feedback, monitoring and evaluation of Cancer Awareness Roadshow and Hub, including providing local insight and intelligence to inform the work of the HCE team and other teams in the Policy & Information directorate.
What skills are you looking for?
Registered Adult Nurse - NMC registration is mandatory for this role and must be maintained at all times
A qualification or demonstrable interest in at least one of the following: health promotion, practice nursing, occupational health, health visiting, district/community nursing or other area relevant to this role
Experience in health promotion or community/public health services and a passion for raising cancer awareness and supporting positive behaviour change through public-facing engagement activity
An understanding of the challenges and determinants associated with health inequalities and reaching disadvantaged groups
Knowledge of key cancer awareness messages and ability to research, prioritise and consult others on the latest health information and appropriate services
The ability to work flexibly and autonomously while working effectively as a valued and supportive member of the whole team
Excellent verbal communication and listening skills - an ability to engage people in conversation and to use motivational interviewing techniques while maintaining professional boundaries
Confidence and ability to make decisions and solve problems appropriately, and to adapt and deal with difficult, unforeseen challenges that may arise

We are currently seeking two dynamic Practitioners to join our Young People’s service (Yuva) in Surrey, working directly with young people using abuse and violence and their families. This role works within the Yuva team to develop and deliver intervention and safety programmes to families affected by Child to Parent Violence and Young People’s Intimate Partner Violence.
Domestic Violence Intervention Project (DVIP), a division of Richmond Fellowship since 2018, has been a leading provider of Respect accredited community perpetrator programmes working to stop domestic violence, increase safety for women and children, and reduce harm to families for over 29 years.
This role requires a robust and detailed understanding and experience of working with adolescent development, domestic abuse, child abuse and trauma, and the impacts of these on young people’s development. You will also need a good understanding of the nature of domestic violence and its effects on women and children, and on the parent-child relationship. Additionally, you will have:
- Experience of providing direct work with young people and their parents/carers, working flexibly but robustly and supportively, responding to challenging or harmful behaviour to facilitate change.
- Experience of providing structured one-to-one and/or group-work counselling or behavioural change interventions, and of working with both children and adults from diverse backgrounds.
- An excellent understanding of Safeguarding procedures and be confident working both independently and as part of a team, working closely and collaboratively alongside partner agencies such as Child Services and Youth Offending Services.
- Candidates with undergraduate degree level qualifications in relevant fields will be considered, alongside those with extensive experience working in the domestic abuse field with young people.
You will have the opportunity to play a key role in developing DVIP’s young people’s services, working in partnerships with a range of statutory and voluntary agencies to deliver effective community responses to domestic violence, in line with RESPECT practice standards. Day to day, you will be working flexibly across a number of locations (including regular days working co-located within Local Authority Children and Families Services, and providing outreach in schools and other relevant or referring services) managing referrals, assessing risk and suitability for therapeutic intervention, and engaging families.
In this rewarding role you will be working directly with young people and their parents/carers, delivering structured interventions to increase safety, as well as providing specialist support to other professionals working with families experiencing abuse, through provision of expert consultations and training.
You will be able to work independently and flexibly, including some early evenings, in areas where DVIP is contracted, for part of the working week. You will be comfortable managing your own workload and related admin, and you will be able to communicate clearly with a range of people about sensitive and complex issues, including the writing of professional reports.
This is a permanent full time role requiring the post-holder to work 37.5 hours a week. The role will require working across Surrey and a driver’s licence/use of a car are highly recommended.

Women and Girls Network (WGN) was established in 1987 and has spent over 30 years supporting women and girls across London affected by gendered violence. This includes childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, rape, prostitution (including trafficking and sexual exploitation), female genital mutilation (FGM), and so-called 'honour' based crimes such as forced marriage.
Our goal is to promote, preserve, and restore the mental health and wellbeing of women and girls, to empower them to make a total and sustainable recovery from the experiences of violence.
About the role
This new and exciting role is part of CouRAGEus, a unique pan-London project established to provide specialist advocacy, counselling, resilience and prevention programs for black and minoritised young women and girls (YWG) experiencing gendered violence, mental health and/or multiple disadvantage.
About you
The ideal candidate will be an experienced and dynamic individual with an in-depth understanding of the specific needs of minoritised and multiple disadvantaged YWG with experiences of gendered violence. You will have experience of working with YWG’s with high-risk presentations, including self-injury and suicidal risk and adept at providing crises support and more in-depth work that cultivates self-protective factors as well as meaningful interventions and strategies that aim to reduce and mitigate risk.
You will deliver holistic, YWG’s centred, individualised care pathways that are gender informed, trauma focused and aimed at addressing multiple areas of disadvantage including mental health challenges, problematic substance use and homelessness. You will be well versed in advocating on behalf of YWG to multi-agency services to ensure support, protection and choice for the YWG’s you represent. In this role, the Advocate will also develop relationships with local communities and professionals with an aim to raise awareness about sexual violence, improve communities and professionals’ responses as well as to improve access to services for survivors. This work will be carried out through one to one advocacy sessions, workshops, trainings, consultations and other means.
