As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you!

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!

Mind in Havering, Barking & Dagenham is looking to recruit a number of people to join its Board of Trustees and provide positive leadership and direction. As a Trustee, you will be part of a team responsible for the strategic and financial management of the charity, ensuring that our core purpose is carried out and help promote our positive vision:

About Mind in Havering, Barking & Dagenham

Established over 50 years ago, we are a local mental health charity based in Havering. We provide services to people living in Havering and Barking & Dagenham who are experiencing mental health problems. We also campaign for better services, deliver training and raise awareness of mental health. We are affiliated to national Mind, but we are an independent charity and raise our own funds.

What we are looking for

We welcome applications from people of all ages and backgrounds. We want to broaden the diversity of our Board to create a group that truly represents the communities that we serve across both Boroughs. We are particularly interested in applications from individuals who have skills and expertise in one of the following areas:

The competencies we are seeking include

• The ability to analyse complex information, to think creatively and to generate solutions.
• An ability to work effectively and constructively as a member of a team.
• Time management skills to handle multiple priorities.
• Previous Board and/or Trustee experience is desirable but is not essential.
• You must be willing to participate in Board meetings every two months and join one of our four, active sub-committees.

Key Responsibilities:

Videography & Photography:

• Plan, shoot, and edit high-quality videos and photos for digital platforms, events, and promotional materials.

• Capture key moments at Roots Academy campuses, events, and student experiences.

• Ensure all content aligns with Roots Academy’s brand identity, values, and messaging.

Editing & Production:

• Edit videos and images using professional software

• Add graphics, animations, subtitles, and effects to enhance storytelling.

• Maintain a consistent visual style across all platforms.

Content Strategy & Social Media:

• Collaborate with the marketing team to create engaging visual content for social media, website, and digital campaigns.

• Stay up-to-date with content trends, video styles, and social media best practices.

• Suggest creative ideas for short-form (Reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts) and long-form video content.

Project Management:

• Organize and manage content shoots, including scheduling, locations, and logistics.

• Maintain and manage photography and videography equipment, ensuring quality and readiness.

Preferred Experience:

• Marketing & Branding

  • Some experience in digital marketing, social media, or event promotion.

  • Basic knowledge of social media management, and content creation.

• Experience with Muslim Student Associations (MSAs) or Islamic Societies (ISOCs) as a member, volunteer, or organizer.

• Comfortable engaging with Muslim communities and student networks.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Marketing Skills: Proven expertise in brand strategy, digital marketing, and campaign management.

• Creative Storyteller: You have a keen eye for capturing powerful moments and translating them into compelling visual stories.

About the role

We are looking for Volunteer Befrienders to support our Brent Mental Health service in the London Borough of Brent. 

As a Volunteer Befriender, you will be required to travel across Brent to meet with service users and carry out your role. Ideally, you will be able to commit a minimum of 2 hours per week to volunteering. 

You will be supported by Befriending Volunteer Coordinators who will provide regular supervision to ensure you feel confident in your role. You can read more about the benefits of volunteering on the full advert on our website.

About the service

Our Brent Mental Health service provides support to people aged 18 and above who live in the Borough of Brent, and who have a mental illness and are known to the local NHS trust, Central and North West London (CNWL).

The aim of the Befriending Service is to;

• Reduce social isolation of service users
• Increase the confidence of service users in accessing community resources independently
• Provide meaningful activities and peer support for service users 
• Help service users to live happier, healthier, independent lives
• Provide volunteering opportunities for people with mental health issues
• Reduce stigma and raise mental health awareness

What you will be doing as a Volunteer Befriender:

• Meeting with service users in locations and times which meet their needs (including evenings and weekends)
• Provide befriending support to a maximum of 2 service users at any one time
• Provide emotional support based on your own lived experience
• Support service users to access and build social and community networks and activities
• Act as a community connector to local services

Support and training:

All our trustees receive induction and training to be successful in their roles. Ongoing trustee support is provided by the Students’ Union’s staff team.

Terms of Office:

The Trustee Board meets 4-5 times a year. All trustees also have a place on one of the specialist Board Committees. Trustee Boards are held in person in the Students’ Union, although remote attendance can also be accommodated, and typically, Sub-Committee meetings are held remotely online.

External trustees are eligible to serve for a term of four years, with the option to serve for a further four year term subject to a review and approval by the Trustee Board.

We expect trustees to agree to our Trustees’ Code of Conduct, which is informed by Charity Commission guidance and the Nolan Principles of public service.

This is an unpaid volunteer role. Reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

We’re looking for a trustee who can offer strategic insight and leadership in growing Galop’s income, influence, and public profile.
 
This is a critical moment for the organisation: we are scaling our services, amplifying our voice, and diversifying our funding. You’ll help shape this journey, supporting the CEO and senior team to build a bold and sustainable future.

• An in-depth knowledge and understanding of LGBT issues and communities
• A demonstrable commitment to Galop’s vision, mission, and values, including anti-racism and diversity and inclusion
• Good independent judgement
• Commitment to work effectively as a member of a team

• Tact and diplomacy
• Good communication and interpersonal skills

 
What We’re Looking For
 
You might be:

• A senior fundraiser, communications or brand leader in the charity or private sector.
• An experienced trustee looking for a cause you care deeply about.
• Someone newer to governance who brings lived experience, strategic insight, and passion.

 
We are particularly keen to hear from people who:

• Have professional experience in fundraising, marketing, branding, digital campaigns, or strategic communications.
• Have a passion about our sector and ideally understand the needs of LGBT , survivors or marginalised communities.
• Bring fresh perspectives and a collaborative spirit to board leadership. 
• You don’t need to have been a trustee before. What matters is your commitment to our values and your ability to think strategically, challenge constructively, and act in the best interests of the charity.

Terms of Appointment
 
Appointments are for an initial term of three years, renewable for up to two further terms of three years.
 
Remuneration
 
This is a voluntary role and there is no remuneration. Reasonable expenses incurred in the role will be reimbursed in line with the organisation’s expenses policy.
 
Location: Generally, meetings are held remotely online, with an annual Board Strategy Day being held in London.
 
Time Commitment

There are currently 4 formal Board meetings per year and more regular sub-committee meetings. The board meetings currently take place on Zoom on a Wednesday evening for approximately 2.5 hours. Sub-committee dates and times are flexible.
 
Other time commitments will include ongoing liaison with the Chair of the Board, Chief Executive and other senior staff, as well as attendance at other meetings, such as interview panels and events as required. We anticipate the overall time commitment being approximately 3-4 days per month for the first 12-18 months, settling to 2 days per month after that.
