Job description

Volunteer Role Profile 
Role Title: Data Volunteer

 
Time Commitment: 1  2 days per week (flexible) for 3 months (with hybrid/remote options available) 
Reports To: Director of Community Research 

Purpose of the Role: 

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Data Volunteer to support Blackfriars Settlement in leveraging internal and external data to improve our impact in the Southwark community. This role focuses on analysing internal datasets and connecting insights with relevant public sector research, policies, and datasets to inform our services and advocacy efforts. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Analyse internal data (e.g., service usage, demographics, outcomes) to extract trends and actionable insights. 

  • Identify and access relevant public sector datasets (e.g., ONS, Southwark Council, NHS, DfE) related to social care, mental health, older people, employment, and poverty in Southwark. 

  • Produce clear visualisations and summaries for use in internal reports, funding bids, and presentations. 

  • Support the development of impact measurement frameworks aligned with local authority or NHS objectives. 

  • Work collaboratively with the wider team to align data findings with service development and advocacy strategies. 

  • Stay informed about public policy developments relevant to our beneficiaries in Southwark. 

Skills and Experience: 

Essential: 

  • Strong analytical skills and experience with Excel, Google Sheets, or data analysis tools

  • Ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative data and communicate findings clearly. 

  • Familiarity with public sector datasets and open data portals. 

  • Interest in social impact, public policy, or community development. 

Desirable: 

  • Experience in research, monitoring & evaluation, or data reporting in the charity or public sector. 

  • Knowledge of the Southwark area and its community challenges. 

  • Understanding of GDPR and ethical considerations in handling personal data.
