PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

• To support the community work of Adoption UK Scotland community support services, to plan and deliver community events, provide professionals, parents/carers, children, and young people access to information, resources, and services and to engage with families in their local communities. 

• To offer a front-line service, primarily to adoptive and kinship families, and care experienced individuals and young people, by supporting delivery and administration for activities and events, including regular support groups delivery, youth and teens/young adults, and family events. Support of events across Scotland based on resources and availability.

• Support planning, organisation of, and attendance at, in person and online events through funded projects and services to bring together adopted and care-experienced individuals and young people and adoptive and kinship families, enable peer support, build a sense of community and promote an active and supportive Community Network. 

• To respond to enquiries received via the Information and Support Service and relevant email inboxes with relevant information and/or signposting.

• To be part of the wider communities within Adoption UK Scotland, working across teams and services.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Working alongside service leads within the communities team, and with the wider Adoption UK Scotland team members to plan and deliver specific events and activities for adoptive and kinship community members, and care experienced children and young people via our E Project youth service for children, teens and young adults.

• Provide administrative coordination for community event provision, including collating event materials, gathering feedback and evaluations for reporting purposes, supporting delivery of events, maintaining records using existing required systems, and responding to enquiries via our Information and Support line and relevant email inboxes.

• Working alongside Communications colleagues and across teams to ensure promotion of events to relevant target groups 

• Attending events to promote the wider work of AUK Scotland at conferences or support groups

• To hold responsibility for administrative requirements relating to community events, including setting up booking pages, sharing information via newsletters and social media, and recording service delivery interactions, using existing Adoption UK systems and processes

• To work with colleagues in the Foundations for Families kinship support service to support delivery and coordinate activities between services where appropriate.

• To report to line manager and directors in Adoption UK Scotland relating to service delivery, including contributing to monitoring and reporting on activities. 

• To work alongside Adoption UK colleagues to develop and improve resources and services for our communities.

The role

Job Title: Youth & Community Engagement Officer

Part Time:          8- 12 days per month

Salary: £28-30,000 pro rata

Reporting to: Operations Director

Job Purpose:

 This role will lead the development and delivery of Allergy UK’s youth engagement initiative. We are beginning several exciting new projects focused on engaging young people who live with allergy and providing opportunities for them to have a voice and support them in raising awareness of the issues that affect their life. We are seeking young people’s participation and co-production in all activities we develop to support their needs. The role of Youth Engagement Officer will be to engage with young people across the UK, to ensure that they have the opportunities and support to shape and influence Allergy UK’s programmes and activities for young people living with allergy.

The Youth & Community Engagement Officer will engage with children and young people across the UK to ensure they are meaningfully involved and supported to influence Allergy UK’s services, campaigns and resources. This includes creating safe, inclusive spaces where young people and parents and carers feel listened to and empowered to share their experiences.

The successful individual will develop youth opportunities that build confidence, skills and life chances, while supporting children and young people living with allergy to overcome the social, emotional and practical barriers they may face. A key part of the role will be working collaboratively with parents and carers to ensure their voice inform decision making and design.

As a Youth & Community Engagement Officer, you will have experience of working positively with children, young people and families, and have a proactive, organised and confident approach.

Strong organisation skills and initiative are essential as you will be the lead Allergy UK’s youth provision.

You will coordinate a range of activities on-line and in-person engagement sessions, blogs, podcasts, learning opportunities and digital activities all rooted in co-production principles. You will work as part of a wider team to engage children, young people and parents and carers, to amplify unheard voices and stories, and help drive positive change for families living with allergy.

The post is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund until September 2028. As a grant- funded role, the postholder will be responsible for the effective delivery, monitoring and evaluation of agreed grant outcome and KPI’s, ensuring full compliance with funder requirements and reporting deadlines.

Your main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Key Accountabilities:

· Design, develop and deliver youth-led and family-centred services across three core areas:

o Continue to design and deliver youth-led services with the existing 18–25 youth group for people living with allergies

o Recruit, , launch and establish a new youth group for 13–17-year-olds living with allergies

o Recruit, launch and establish a support and engagement group for parents and carers of children and young people living with allergies

· Plan, project manage and deliver engaging co-production projects, building positive, trusted relationships with children, young people and parents and carers, and promoting meaningful participation.

· Create opportunities for young people to have a strong and influential voice, supporting them to engage in Allergy UK’s awareness- raising and public affairs activity to influence policy, improve services and drive change.

· Establish, develop and lead the Allergy UK Youth Forum, ensuring it is representative, inclusive and impactful.

· Support and develop young people to become champions and ambassadors for Allergy UK, building confidence, leadership skills and advocacy capability.

· Work collaboratively with a wide range of organisations including but not exclusively schools, local government, health and youth services and voluntary sector organisations.

· Develop and deliver training and development resources to support young people’s skills, understanding and personal development.

· Ensure all required documentation is completed accurately, secularly, and within agreed timescales, in line with contractual, safeguarding and reporting requirements

· Work closely with the Operations Director and wider staff team, providing insight and advice on issues affecting children, young people and families living with allergy.

· Develop and embed effective youth engagement procedures and best practice, ensuring a consistent, safe and inclusive approach across all activities..

· Take responsible for the health and safety including risk assessments and reviews for all youth and family engagement activities, ensuring safety and wellbeing of participants.

· Act as a key role holder for safeguarding, ensuring that the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and vulnerable adults is central to all youth and family engagement activity. This includes promoting a strong safeguarding culture, adhering to Allergy UK’s safeguarding policies and procedures, identifying and escalating safeguarding concerns appropriately, completing and contributing to risk assessments, and working closely with designated safeguarding leads and relevant staff to ensure safe, inclusive and compliant practice at all times.

· Maintain accurate and confidential records, ensuring the secure and compliant recording of sensitive data on Allergy UK’s Salesforce database in line with data protection requirements.

Person Specification

This role involves regular contact with children, young people and potentially vulnerable adults. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, in accordance with organisational safeguarding policies.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The lead and deliver integrated communications that build the charity’s profile, deepen engagement and support income generation. This role will develop compelling narratives, manage key channels, and ensure consistent, high-quality messaging across all audiences.

Key stakeholder comms

• Brand management - responsible for all branded marketing communications, across socials, website, marketing materials, event presentations, media, and partner comms.
• Campaigns - creating content for various annual fundraising, volunteer, and food-sourcing campaigns.
• Digital campaign marketing.
• Content creation - design trusted content to achieve organic reach, with broad messaging to support department KPIs, volunteer and donor engagement

• Press coverage - reactive press office management, press release writing, image archiving.

• Assist in the delivery of the City Harvest fundraising strategy, including corporate partnerships involving charity of the year’s programmes and cause-related marketing campaigns.
• Showcase corporate partnerships across the website and socials to attract new business.
• Promote challenge events, individual giving campaigns and corporate volunteering.
• Work with the fundraising team on large annual campaigns such as The Big Give
• Understand and create impactful supporter journeys across awareness, engagement, donation and retention.
• Ability to tie communications directly to impact & income.
• External newsletter highlighting fundraising.

Campaigns

• Clear and compelling content creation to meet the needs of the organisation’s targets.
• Measure and report on the performance of marketing campaigns, gain insight and assess against goals.
• Balance short-term campaigns with long-term brand building.

Citizens Advice Bury & Bolton (CABB) is a leading provider of legal advice and information, supporting thousands of clients every year. We are a busy, client focused and dynamic service with a track record of delivering high quality advice face to face, over the phone and digitally. 

Our communities are facing unprecedented challenges with rising costs. The rising cost-of-living continues to directly impact individuals and families, with more people than ever in negative budgets, debt and housing crises. 

This role would provide direct line management to the following teams: 

• Client Services Team - the initial access points for up to 80% of clients accessing our services. From client facing work at our local town centre premises through to processing our online referral forms, this team is integral to ensuring that clients can access our services.  
• Volunteer Team – led by 2 part-time volunteer supervisors, our team of 30 volunteers deliver advice to clients over the phone and face to face. Delivering over 6000 hours of volunteering per year, this team has increased by 50% in the past 12 months and is continuing to grow across the organisation.  
• Community Outreach Team – responsible for delivering community outreach advice sessions across Bury and Bolton, as well as representing CABB in local/ neighbourhood meetings and building relationships with key community stakeholders. This team attended over 700 sessions in 2025, and with increased resources we now envisage this to continue increasing, ensuring we are delivering advice to our clients in the spaces and places they feel comfortable in, removing barriers to advice. 

These teams collectively make up our client access points, in 2025-2026 supporting over 16,000 clients to access our services and receive information, guidance and advice.  

There’s no ‘average’ day for our teams – each client, case and community location is different.  You will be responsible for supporting these teams, enhancing the service and ensuring that we are able to provide high quality information, guidance and advice to clients when they access our services.  

You will be part of the Delivery Leadership Team, a well-established team of managers responsible for their areas of specialist advice.

• Using quantitative and qualitative data, prepare regular funder reports, ensuring all teams are accurately recording client and case data on our case management systems. 
• Develop knowledge within the teams to enhance the client journey, from signposting and referral information through to the development of new and innovative ways to deliver advice to clients.
