Job description

The Shift.ms community is at the heart of everything we do. We involve people with Multiple  Sclerosis in all aspects of our work to ensure we truly are ‘By MSers, For MSers’.

Participation of the community is a key organisational priority and we’re looking for a Community  Coordinator to help us build and develop relationships and to engage our community through  volunteering, project participation and social media involvement. 

Why are we looking for you? 
Shift.ms is looking for a highly organised and self motivated Community Coordinator. You will be  responsible for supporting the Shift.ms volunteer network, supporting community engagement  through communications via social media, www.Shift.ms and email, and organising and delivering  internal team activities. 

Who is Shift.ms? 
Shift.ms is the social network for people with MS (MSers). Founded by MSers, for MSers, the  charity supports many thousands of recently diagnosed people across the world as they make  sense of MS. The organisation is currently a team of ten, and the community - www.Shift.ms - has  over 50,000 monthly users from all over the world with 38,000 members. Last year, we worked  with 275 volunteers who contributed over 1,500 hours.   

The day to day
Working alongside the Community team, your responsibilities will include:   

Social Media and Communications 
● Create engaging content and manage the Shift.ms social media channels across Facebook,  Twitter, YouTube and Instagram   
● Supporting delivery of social media takeovers 
● Writing member newsletter 
● Management of Shift.ms presence at community facing events 
● Manage and deliver the volunteer team Ambassador programme   

Volunteer Coordination   
● Supporting the advertising and recruitment of volunteers 
● Arranging and supporting interviews with potential volunteers 
● Providing ongoing support and regular communication with all volunteers at every point in  their volunteer experience 
● Keeping accurate records of volunteers, project activity and volunteer expenses 
● Be the community team liaison for external projects which require community involvement 
● Support the Peer Support Manager to ensure the Buddy Network project runs smoothly   

Internal team support 
● Managing team away days/Christmas party 
● Arranging sending of leaflets 
● Manning the central team inbox 
● Writing Trustee report 
● Managing staff birthdays and work anniversaries 
● Support the reporting of community team KPI's 
● Supporting the delivery of staff wellbeing initiatives   

What you’ll need to bring: 
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
● Experience of project coordination 
● Experience of social media management 
● Experience of working with volunteers 
● Strong organisational, ​time management, and prioritisation​ skills 
● Excellent attention to detail   
● Energy, drive and enthusiasm 
● Ability to build strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders 
● Ability to write, produce and distribute regular content for web copy and newsletters 
● Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends   


Other information
Hours: 37.5 hours a week
Contract: Permanent 
Salary: £22,000-25,000 per annum dependent on relevant experience 
Annual Leave: 28 days per annum, plus public holidays
Office location: Remote working, with travel required to Leeds or London post-pandemic
