THE ROLE:
The Service Manager plays a central role in ensuring that every young person who engages with Empire Fighting Chance receives high-quality, personalised support.
In this role, you will ensure that every young person who connects with Empire Fighting Chance receives an outstanding experience. You will oversee the full journey of young people through our programmes. From referral and assessment to onboarding, scheduling and progression. You will ensure their experience is safe and impactful.
You will champion a safety-aware culture across the organisation, embedding safeguarding into everyday practice and leading on case management and risk mitigation. This role is key to building a strong operational foundation for our Centre of Excellence in Bristol. Through strategic management, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement, you will help shape an environment where young people feel safe, supported and empowered.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
1. Manage the recruitment of young people
Accountable for the recruitment of suitable young people onto the programmes of Empire Fighting Chance.
- Implement a robust referral criteria process to ensure that Empire Fighting Chance targets the young people that it best supports.Contribute to the development of a ‘bank’ of recommended organisations to share with those young people who do not meet the charity’s referral criteria.

- Ensure the recruitment of young people for different Empire programmes meets organisational, grant and contractual targets.
- Provide oversight of all referral partnerships held by Empire Fighting Chance, ensuring all are working as well as they can.
- Ensure the charity collects robust and accurate information from referral partners on young people signposted to Empire Fighting Chance.
- Contribute to building intelligence of local systems within Bristol to shape how we recruit young people, including understanding the education, Special Educational Needs and mental health landscapes.
- Ensure the recruitment of young people onto EFC programmes follows a robust quality assurance process, using data to inform and strengthen existing processes
2. Manage the triaging and scheduling of young people
Accountable for ensuring young people participate in the right programme with the right coach mentor or therapist at the right time.
- Improve the prioritisation criteria to ensure that the charity fast tracks individuals who are most in need of support.
- Identify new approaches to managing the charity’s waiting list, ensuring the programmes can meet their needs and offer the correct resources to support them.
- Implement our assessment process to ensure Empire Fighting Chance gains a full and accurate understanding of each young person’s needs and circumstances.
- Implement a process to match young people with the most appropriate Empire Fighting Chance programme and coach mentor/therapist.
- Strengthen the scheduling process of young people’s programmes at Empire Fighting Chance.
3. Manage a safety aware culture
Accountable for developing of a culture where safeguarding and safety are embedded into every aspect
of our work.
- Champion a safety-aware culture across the organisation, embedding safeguarding into everyday practice.
Be a key part of the safeguarding team and ensure robust safeguarding practices are implemented across all areas of the charity. - Lead on safeguarding case management, including referrals, reporting, and liaison with external agencies.
- Identify, assess and mitigate safeguarding risks in programme delivery and organisational operations.

4. Manage young people’s ‘Empire Experience’
Accountable for Empire Fighting Chance giving young people the best possible experience (outside of the delivery of programmes).
- Identify and implement improvements to The Mill boxing gym to ensure that young people feel safe and have an enjoyable experience (while retaining the look and feel of a real boxing gym).
- Oversee the onboarding process to ensure that young people have the best possible start to their Empire experience.
- Work alongside the Head of Programmes and Community Outreach Manager to develop a ‘bank’ of local organisations and services that young people can be referred onto during or after their programme. Ensure this information is shared with coaches and therapists so they can communicate it to the young person.
- Oversee the offboarding process that will support young people to continue their development after leaving Empire Fighting Chance (e.g. resources and pathways for young people – internally and externally).
- Use data and insights from young people to improve their experience.
5. Manage the provision of family liaison/support
Accountable for providing support to parents/carers of young people.
- Work alongside the Family Liaison Officer to enhance the information, advice, guidance and support provided to parents and carers to ensure young people engage with their programme.
- Oversee the development of practices and interventions that can provide support to parents and carers that will, in turn, have benefits for young people.
6. Line management of a team
Provide strategic direction to a small team in a supportive manner.
- Provide clear direction, support and motivation to team members, ensuring the Centre of Excellence objectives and the experience of young people is central to all decision making.
- Set clear performance goals and expectations for each function area within the operations team to ensure EFC programmes are operating to the highest standards and at optimal capacity.
- Ensure the team receive regular CPD and are equipped with the skills and knowledge to best support young people (many with complex needs).

About the Youth Endowment Fund
We’re here to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice.
In recent years violent crime has risen significantly. Homicides, assaults, robberies and offences involving weapons have all seen sustained growth. We have also seen large increases in violent crime involving children and young people. This is a tragedy. Every child captured in these numbers is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them.
The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment and a mission that matters. We exist to prevent children becoming involved in violence. Our mission is to find what works and build a movement to put it into practice. A big part of the movement that we need to build is in the world of youth justice. We need to inspire and connect with youth justice leaders across England and Wales to spread what works and make our country safer for some of our most vulnerable children. We are looking for someone to lead on making this happen.
Key Responsibilities
We are making good progress building the evidence of what works within and around youth justice to reduce violence. This year, in conjunction with the Centre for Justice Innovation, we published Diversion Practice Guidance and have recently launched our new self-evaluation tool for diversion practice (ORPIC). But the big risk is that we publish these resources and nothing changes. That’s where you come in.
Your role is to work out the best way to make this change happen by getting youth justice services (YJSs) and police forces to adopt evidence-based practice through our new change programme: the Whole Area Model (WAM). WAM helps police forces and youth justice services strengthen diversion practices by aligning their work with the 7 C’s:

Culture – A child-centred, pro-diversion ethos

Contact – Interactions are trauma-informed and maximise prevention and safeguarding opportunities

Custody – Considered use of police custody, prioritising alternatives and swift triage.

Criteria – Clear, consistent eligibility for diversion.

Collaboration – Multi-agency decision-making panels; shared protocols and referral pathways.

Care – Evidence-based support, monitoring engagement, closing cases responsibly.

Checks – Ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and scrutiny to ensure quality and equity.
Your role will involve:

Supporting the delivery of the Whole Area Model through activities like:
-
Facilitating completions of diversion self-evaluations with youth justice services and police forces.
-
Delivering training to youth justice, police and other relevant agencies about the evidence-base or specific areas of diversionary practice and governance (e.g. scrutiny panels).

Supporting the ongoing development of a National Diversion Network, which will contribute to a wider repository of diversion resources and evidence

Identifying and creating practical resources which help youth justice professionals and police officers to put evidence into practice.

Developing great relationships with senior leaders, youth justice workers and police officers, generating a strong understanding of key issues and needs in relation to youth justice matters, and building credibility and trust with the sector.

Working out other effective ways to connect people with the evidence, then making those things happen, from virtual learning events to presentations.

About You
You must have this sort of experience:

Hybrid Working

Travel
Due to the nature of the programme there is some national travel required within England and Wales. This is likely to be up to five times per month; all travel costs can be reimbursed with flexibility for overnight stays if preferred.

Purpose of Post: The post holder will lead on the delivery of our volunteer programme. You will be responsible for the recruitment of new volunteers and the support of existing volunteers and volunteer contacts to maintain a positive volunteer experience.
You will work across teams to ensure the volunteer’s experience is positive and will play a key role in volunteer retention. You will work with the different teams to identify and develop new volunteering opportunities. You will increase the diversity and variety of our volunteering opportunities to reflect our local community and better serve our members. You will work to ensure our volunteers feel valued, fulfilled, and have opportunities to meaningfully contribute to Hear Us.
As well as oversight of all our volunteering activities, the post-holder will assist in delivering, developing and expanding upon the success of our existing independent peer support Linkworking Project at inpatient wards at the Royal Bethlem Hospital (RBH) and Croydon’s Mental Health Community Services, Jeanette Wallace House (JWH) and Queens Resource Centre (QRC). The post-holder will assist the Peer Support Coordinator in managing and supporting our team of peer support Linkworkers (volunteers) to monitor the quality of Croydon’s statutory mental health services.
This role is crucial for maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of our volunteer activities, enabling us to support more people in our community.
This post holder will work towards achieving a Hear Us Volunteer Accreditation as part of ensuring good practice for our staff and volunteers, and developing the future creative direction of our volunteering offer.
Given the collaborative and engagement-focused nature of this role, and its direct delivery responsibilities, regular face-to-face working is required, with the post-holder based primarily in the office and attending events and community activities as needed.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Develop and support different techniques to attract lived experience volunteers to Hear Us to build a strong and diverse volunteer base
· Develop and produce volunteer recruitment and information material for our public events, website, and social media
· Monitor and screen incoming volunteer applications and make first contact with applicants
· Liaise with Hear Us managers to schedule, plan, and organise in-person and online volunteer recruitment drives and/or information days
· Support with the development and delivery of a standardised volunteer induction.
Volunteer Management
· Lead on organising and managing volunteer involvement in events and activities, ensuring effective briefing and debriefing.
· Provide volunteer supervision and support where required (usually volunteers will be line managed by their project manager if volunteering with a specific project)
· Conduct regular volunteer surveys and establish routes for volunteers to provide feedback.
Volunteer Training
· Schedule, plan, and organise group training days for volunteers to access and complete mandatory training
· To support volunteers to access and complete mandatory training, (including safeguarding, Prevent and information governance) and to encourage attending further training, workshops or other opportunities that may support in their own development.
· To provide bespoke Hear Us training to new volunteers as part of the induction process, and provide refresher and ongoing training for existing volunteers, updating and/or redesigning the training manuals where necessary.
· In collaboration with colleagues, to develop the Hear Us Academy (accredited peer support training modules)
Volunteer Database Management
· Manage the volunteer database by maintaining an accurate record of Hear Us volunteers, including but not limited to activity status, address, and communication preferences on Hear Us database(s).
· Ensure all recruitment checks are completed and accurate volunteer records are held in compliance with the Data Protection Act and GDPR.
Linkwork Project Support
· Act as a deputy for the Peer Support Coordinator where required, in managing a small, vibrant team of peer support volunteer Linkworkers (all of who are current or former mental health service users).
· Assist with Linkworking Project support, such as supporting volunteers in signing up for the SLaM Involvement Register, arranging an induction with Hear Us and introducing peer support Linkworkers to wards and services.
· In the absence of the Peer Support Coordinator, organise and manage the peer support Linkworking rota, finding cover where necessary, ensuring as few sessions are cancelled as possible.
· In the absence of the Peer Support Coordinator, maintain good relations with the SLaM Involvement Register, and submit peer support Linkworkers’ timesheets as required.
· In the absence of the Peer Support Coordinator, ensure the ongoing delivery of Linkworking Sessions
· Help monitor the peer support Linkworking Project, evaluating its effectiveness on improving services and gathering feedback from service users, Linkworkers, and SLaM staff.
· Gather and provide peer support Linkworkers with signposting material and information that can be shared with service users.
Stakeholder Management
· Work in partnership with the Peer Support Coordinator, Engagement and Campaigns Manager, Welfare Rights Manager, Events Coordinator, Deputy CEO, CEO, trustees, and other staff members to achieve the charity's aims and ensure stability and longevity for Hear Us and its members.
· Represent Hear Us on appropriate external committees, networks and other bodies, with other voluntary, statutory and private sector agencies.
· Work on volunteer incentives, recognition and reward schemes across the year.
Other Duties
· Attend supervision and identify your own training and support needs with your supervisor.
· Develop and maintain a healthy working practice for yourself and the volunteers (including peer support Linkworkers) by having clear personal and professional boundaries.
· Keep up to date with best practice and legislation in the volunteer sector.
· Actively oppose discrimination against people who experience mental distress in Croydon in line with the Hear Us diversity and inclusion and recruitment policies
· Adhere to all Hear Us policies and procedures in all aspects of their work (including safeguarding, equity, inclusion & diversity, health & safety and confidentiality)
It is the nature of the work that tasks and responsibilities are in many circumstances unpredictable and varied. All employees are expected to work in a flexible way, as required by Hear Us. Some meetings and other events may be held out of normal office hours and could involve travel away from the local area.

You will coordinate the Social Homes for Manchester campaign coalition and implement our strategy for strengthening the housing justice movement in Manchester and across GM. You will lead on organising community workshops and events raising awareness about campaign asks and the Manchester Local Plan consultation process.
You will convene workshops and events focused on building the capacity of a network of ward-based community coalitions to understand housing and planning policy and process. This might include how local development applications are compiled, submitted, decided on; and strategies for ensuring appropriate levels of Section 106 contributions and social rent homes are included in development applications.
You will work with the Social Homes for Manchester Steering Group and community leaders to provide coordination support to at least one neighbourhood planning process and efforts to encourage community-led housing innovations.
You will create a new set of webpages focused on provision of transparent and accessible information on housing need, upcoming developments, and performance against housing targets at ward and city scale.

About Social Homes for Manchester (SH4M)
- SH4M is a coalition of community associations, charities, think tanks, academics and social justice organisations focused on accelerating the number of social homes that are created in Manchester by 2030 and ensuring this is done in an environmentally sustainable way.
- Much of our work over the last two years has focused on generating an evidence base, influencing strategy, and set of relationships to facilitate influence, including through convening the Manchester Social Housing Commission which concludes in December 2025.
- SH4M is now focused on implementing a two-year strategy including building a network of citizen coalitions across the city of Manchester with the information and capacity to hold decision-makers and providers to account for accelerated delivery of sustainable social rent homes. This includes taking forward the findings of the Manchester Social Housing Commission.

Background to the role
The Choir with No Name (CWNN) run choirs involving people affected by homelessness across England and Wales. We were founded on the premise that singing with others makes you feel good; it distracts you from all the nonsense in life and helps you to build confidence, skills and genuine, long-lasting friendships. Each choir gets together to rehearse every week and share a meal together at the end of rehearsal, welcoming everyone, regardless of background, characteristics or idiosyncrasies. We want everyone involved in the Choir with No Name to feel they belong in our community.
The Sheffield Choir has been running in Sheffield for one year, in partnership with the Archer Project and Sheffield Cathedral, who support homeless and vulnerable people. Rehearsals are on Monday evenings at 6.30pm at Sheffield Cathedral. Our rehearsals follow the usual Choir with No Name format of tea, biscuits and a chat before rehearsal, then ninety minutes of joyful singing (mostly pop and rock, arranged for mixed ability in 3- and 4-part harmony) followed by a free hot meal for members.
We are committed to co-production. Co-production means that people with lived experience of homelessness work alongside others to deliver all aspects of our work. Our Sheffield Choir Manager will be vital in helping us achieve this aim, working alongside choir members to develop the skills needed to steer their own choir projects and fully share the control and direction of the organisation.
We're looking for someone with strong project management skills, able to organise the project so that our members can safely access weekly rehearsals and perform two gigs during the pilot. The Choir Manager works in close partnership with the choir director who will lead the choir musically, as well as with the Archer Project and Sheffield Cathedral teams. The Choir Manager is also responsible for looking after a small group of dedicated volunteers who will help with preparing a hot meal after rehearsals and offering pastoral support to members. We're looking for someone with some experience in working alongside vulnerable people, offering support and signposting members to specialist services on occasions. It’s a busy and varied role which should be a lot of fun and has plenty of support from the wider Choir with No Name programmes team as we launch this exciting new project.

Job Description
1. Member recruitment and liaison
a) Support choir members and develop lasting positive relationships.
b) Arrange workshops to spread the love and recruit choir members, ensuring that the opportunity to attend choir is available to as many potential members as possible.
c) During work hours and at rehearsal, be the first point of contact for potential and existing choir members.
d) Where appropriate, aid members in crisis by signposting or referring them to specialist services and act as Safeguarding lead for the Sheffield choir.
e) Enable and support choir members to take an active role in their choir e.g. taking-up informal roles at choir, joining steering groups and just involving them as much as possible
2. Rehearsal and Volunteer Management
a) Be the person responsible for all aspects of running a smooth rehearsal (except the musical bits!)
b) Recruit and manage all Sheffield volunteers, including supporting them in their support of choir members.
c) Arrange induction and training for volunteers.
d) Be responsible for the health and safety and food hygiene at choir.
3. Gigs and workshops
a) Arrange and promote regular gigs for the Sheffield choir, in partnership with the Choir Director.
b) Arrange regular outreach workshops (and occasionally larger-scale community projects) within the homeless, mental health and other relevant communities.
4. Administration
a) Set and deliver an appropriate work plan for the Sheffield choir, ensuring that it follows the agreed priorities of CWNN and that the choir reaches people with experience of homelessness in Sheffield.
b) Follow operational policies and procedures consistently and help to keep them relevant and up-to-date.
c) Contribute to measuring the social impact of the choir through conducting member surveys/focus groups and compiling results.
d) Complete quarterly reports and impact data.

Context:
North Leatherhead is in the top 5% most deprived neighbourhoods in Surrey, with one of the highest concentrations of foodbank use in the county and healthy life expectancy rates that are, on average, seven years lower than in South Leatherhead. A listening exercise by Mole Valley District Council highlighted the lack of community provision and the damaging impact of the closure of the children’s centre and other community buildings in recent years.
Leatherhead Community Hub (LCH) opened in March 2022 as a dedicated community centre in North Leatherhead. LCH provides opportunities for people to come together socially and build community, as well as giving partner organisations a permanent base from which to offer vital support. Our mission is to create a safe, welcoming space at the heart of the community, where people of all ages can connect, learn, have fun, and find the support they need to thrive. The Hub attracts around 3,500 visitors a month to our community café and the many other community activities run by LCH and other local groups.
One of LCH’s core values is to be community-led, and we are always looking for opportunities to take on board people’s ideas and develop their gifts. Last year, we set up a non-contact boxing project and we have plans for a new football project, in response to parents’ concerns about the lack of provision for children and young people. We are looking for a highly engaging Volunteering and Community Partnerships Manager to lead and grow on the recruitment, development and retention of our pool of volunteers. You will work across the team to ensure all volunteers are well-supported, feel valued, and are making meaningful contributions to the charities mission. You will also plan and organise a calendar of fundraising and community events for the charity.
Step-Out Mentoring is an early intervention mentoring organisation that provides support for children and young people in the heart of South London through outdoor based 1:1 mentoring and group workshops. We work with children and young people aged 8-18 who are disengaged with education and/or life, referred to our service from Social care, GP’s, Mental health services and schools. Our mentors are all volunteers from the community who are trained to become youth mentors and matched to young people for weekly mentoring sessions.
Our mission is to equipe young people with the skills and emotional resilience to thrive in life. We provide a safe environment for disengaged children and young people to work through their challenges and reconnect with the community.
As a small and growing charity our staff team are embedded in all aspects of the work we do so it is encouraged that all staff engage in the activities with the young people including trips, residentials, mentoring and workshops.
You will be leading on ensuring the charity has a steady stream of passionate volunteers and will be able to provide excellent support for them as they start their journeys of mentoring young people. You will also be leading on organising a yearly events calandar of community events and fundraisers. Which would include a Live Music event, expedition challenge (e.g hiking up mount Snowdon) plus family freindly fun days. You will be joining a small and dedicated team that works from our youth centre in Camberwell.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and people-focused Community and Volunteer Engagement Manager to join our small team and help shape the Castle’s future.
This role is one of two complementary part-time positions forming a collaborative partnership model. You will work closely with the Site and Operations Manager to ensure a joined-up, positive experience for visitors, volunteers, and community partners.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys connecting with people, building community relationships, and creating memorable visitor experiences. You will lead our volunteer programme, develop partnerships, support events, and help ensure that Severndroog Castle remains a welcoming and engaging place for all.
