An opportunity has arisen for a  part time (3 days per week or other arrangement to be discussed at interview) Social Value Advisor to join the Signalling, Power & Communications renewals project team based in Glasgow. The role will report to the Corporate Senior Social Value Advisor, with remote line management.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead and deliver project activities related to social value on this high-profile Network Rail Project. They will be responsible for engaging stakeholders (schools, staff, local communities, supply chain) in the development and delivery of social value plans as part of the wider SP&C programme. The role has a wide remit and will include delivery of key requirements relating to social value.

This role would be well suited for an individual who is enthusiastic about socio-economic development and who has creative problem-solving abilities. 

What the role involves:

• Engaging with communities to understand local needs and develop Social Value Delivery Plans that deliver added value for stakeholders through investment in signalling, power and communication renewal programmes across Scotland.
• Assessing the potential impact of works on communities – social and economic, and developing programmes to mitigate negative impacts and enhance local benefits.
• Working with the VolkerRail SP&C Framework Lead and HR Business Partner to deliver education and employability programmes to meet contract committments (including local employment, apprentices, graduate employment, year in industry placements, and work experience).
• Coordinate a programme of school engagement and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) activities for the SP&C Framework. Work with educators, training providers, and stakeholders to meet the outcomes of the skills agenda and inspire the next generation.
• Coordinate a programme of community investment through volunteering and community donations.
• Support the company's Fairness Inclusion Respect (FIR) Strategy working with internal and external groups.
• Reporting on social value data against targets and providing assurance in line with company procedures.
• Create internal and external comms content to celebrate progress in delivering local social value.
• Actively participate in various internal, client and stakeholder groups to support the social value delivery.
• Actively seek out opportunities for partnerships and work collaboratively with other Network Rail Contractors in Scotland to amplify the impact for rail stakeholders.

About you

• Educated to HND/HNC or equivalent in relevant subjects (Sustainability, CSR, Environment, HR, Community Relations) and/or previous experience that can be demonstrated in a similar role with a clear passion for delivering social and economic value for local communities.
• Experience in co-ordination of events, volunteering, school engagement, skills and employment would be a distinct advantage.
• Flexible, proactive and positive attitude; diplomatic and patient, demonstrating exceptional initiative to co-ordinate multiple parties and act collaboratively.
• Be able to collect, coordinate and report social value data, with training provided on company systems.
• Proficient in MS office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
• Confidence to engage many stakeholders including the wider team and supply chain to inspire action to deliver against targets including volunteering, apprenticeships, STEM, work experience etc.
• Personal resilience and ability to thrive in a challenging and fast-moving environment.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and able to seek out opportunities.

The Head of Fundraising will shape and execute income strategies to enable growth, ensure long-term sustainability, and enhance our national profile. You’ll work closely with the CEO, Board of Trustees, and senior leadership to embed a culture of philanthropy across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy & Leadership

• Develop and implement a multi-year fundraising strategy aligned with organisational growth and strategic goals

• Lead all fundraising streams, prioritising the development of our relationships with trusts & foundations and corporate partnerships

• Agree on income targets, KPIs, and a robust pipeline to meet current and future funding needs

• Report to the CEO and Board on fundraising performance, risks, and opportunities

Trusts, Foundations & Grants

• Identify and develop opportunities for major grants and philanthropic funding (including from Government stakeholders) and then cultivate and sustain relationships with donors

• Write compelling funding applications and impact reports to secure and retain grant income

• Maintain relationships with key funders and proactively seek multi-year funding opportunities

Corporate Partnerships

• Identify and secure high-value corporate partnerships aligned with The Cyber Helpline’s mission and values

• Develop innovative, mutually beneficial partnership packages, including sponsorship, pro bono support, and employee engagement

• Enable corporations to fundraise for our mission

• Build a sustainable corporate pipeline through networking, stewardship, and thought leadership

Individual Giving & Community Engagement

• Build an individual giving programme, exploring opportunities for regular giving, campaigns, digital fundraising and major donors

• Support the development of community fundraising and challenge events with long-term potential

• Work with the comms team to create engaging supporter journeys and fundraising content

• Engaging our team members - and their networks - to engage in fundraising activity

Internal Leadership & Collaboration

• Work with the CEO and leadership team to embed a fundraising mindset across the organisation

• Collaborate with operations and finance to ensure accurate budgeting, forecasting, and grant management

• With Board approval, Recruit and Line manage fundraising staff and/or freelance support as resources permit

Requirements

Candidates must be 18 years old or older and resident in the UK with the right to work in the UK. 
Successful candidates will need to have their background and criminal records checked, as they are likely to have access to sensitive personal data. 

Essential

• Proven experience of achieving significant fundraising goals, ideally in a small-to-medium charity environment

• Strong commercial and financial acumen

• Track record of securing five- or six-figure income from trusts, foundations, or corporations

• Strong strategic thinking and ability to translate vision into actionable plans

• Excellent relationship-building, networking, and influencing skills

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

• Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, and proactive, with a collaborative working style

• Alignment with The Cyber Helpline’s mission and a commitment to supporting victims of cybercrime

Desirable

• Experience in digital fundraising or individual giving

What we’re looking for​

• Broad experience in commercial financial planning and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting.
• Proven experience leading the financial element of projects or investment decisions.
• Strong skills in presenting financial information clearly to senior leadership.
• Highly analytical, commercially astute, and confident in interrogating financial data.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial planning/reporting tools.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong working relationships.
• Experience within the charity or not-for-profit sector would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of Business Central and Cosmos would be desirable.
• Degree level education or equivalent experience.

St John Ambulance is England's leading, volunteer-powered first aid charity dedicated to first aid education and emergency response across England. The Finance Business Partner in Volunteering is responsible for providing the first line of support and assistance with the development of financial plans, analysis of the financial performance and forecasts of the Volunteering businesses. They will be a key member of the Financial Planning and Insight team to ensure delivery of the annual three-year budgeting process, that is aligned to strategic operational plans.

The key duties of this Finance Business Partner will be as follows:

• Provide impactful and effective finance business partnering to St John Budget Holders, the Senior Management and Executive Teams.
• Deliver high quality business and financial analysis, with detailed outcomes and benefits, to identify and present coherent rationales for change, to support effective delivery of services.
• Work with the relevant stakeholders, to timetable in the production of the charity’s monthly management accounts, the annual budgeting and in-year forecasting process.
• Drive continuous improvement in St John’s financial management reporting, forecasting and analysis.
• Utilise technology and tools to continuously improve the presentation and content of the charity’s financial management reports.
• Provide clear and understandable narrative to stakeholders and the rest of the team, advocating good accounting principles.
• Identify and implement cost and efficiency savings, without compromising the quality of the service and accuracy of the reporting.
• Work with business partners to provide the financial analysis and appraisal for business cases.

The successful candidate will have:

• A full professional accountancy qualification (CCAB or CIMA).
• Ideally, experience in the charity sector and working in large complex organisations.
• Significant experience in management accounting processes.
• Demonstrable, previous, extensive experience in a finance business partner role.
• Track record of supporting the end-to-end processes for in-year forecasts and annual budgets.
• Experience in dealing with a stakeholders at all levels, internal and external.

Role Outline

Engaging with our local community is essential to the success of fundraising at Wicksteed Charitable Trust, ensuring that Wicksteed Park is here for future generations to enjoy. As Grants and Community Fundraiser you will work within our small, newly established Fundraising team delivering engagement activity to maximise income from the local community as well as researching and developing a Trusts and Foundations income pipeline.

The ideal candidate will have previous fundraising, trust fundraising experience or relevant transferable experience, with strong communication and relationship building skills.
