As Foundation Director, you will shape and drive the next phase of Love Rowing’s development. You will lead fundraising strategy, build new partnerships with major donors, trusts and foundations, and develop innovative initiatives that create lasting social impact. You’ll work closely with a passionate team, a supportive and hands-on Board of Trustees, and the wider British Rowing community.
We’re looking for someone with a proven track record in securing substantial, multi-year funding and developing high-trust relationships with major donors and philanthropic partners. You’ll be an engaging advocate and storyteller, able to inspire others with the mission of changing lives through sport.
You’ll bring strategic vision, financial acumen, and a collaborative approach to leadership. Experience of governance, impact measurement, and working with boards or partner organisations will be key.

BACKGROUND
Join us as we define a new era for The Alan Turing Institute. We are seeking a commercial, ambitious and inspirational Head of Culture and Learning to drive forward the developmental people aspects and initiatives required for the organisation to achieve its strategic objectives.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The Head of Culture and Learning will report directly to the Director of People. They will foster a positive work environment in order to develop a strong organisational culture. You will have evidential understanding of Professional Development, EDI and people practices and will balance creativity with pragmatism.
The ideal candidate will be CIPD qualified or have senior level learning and development experience qualified by practice. They will be able to influence senior management and have experience of developing coaching, mentoring and feedback skills programmes that positively impact people outcomes.
MAIN DUTIES
- Translate the Institute’s strategic objectives into actionable learning and development and cultural strategies, with clear, ambitious measurable goals and targets
- Lead, coach and mentor across the People Directorate to align with organisational goals
- Coach the management team on people, culture and development processes
- Work collaboratively with the other departmental People Heads to develop and implement learning and cultural strategies to support business objectives
- Advise executive leadership on professional development and organisational culture related matters
- Be propositional and proactive in suggesting developmental solutions to people challenges
- Lead on succession planning and talent management
- Lead on the creation and implementation of performance management processes and development planning
- Champion and embed the Institute’s EDI strategy within learning, leadership, and cultural initiatives, working in close partnership with the EDI Strategic Lead.
- Act as a senior advocate for inclusive culture, aligning learning and organisational development efforts with EDI objectives.

Terms and Conditions
This full time post is offered on a permanent basis at an annual salary of £80,000 - £85,000 plus excellent benefits, including flexible working and family friendly policies.
The Alan Turing Institute is based at the British Library, in the heart of London’s Knowledge Quarter. We expect staff to come to our office at least 4 days per month. Some roles may require more days in the office; the hiring manager will be able to confirm this during the interview.

The Position:
As Head of Membership and Education, you will own the operational leadership of Membership and Education. You will oversee the management of teams, ensuring day-to-day operations run efficiently while delivering initiatives that strengthen member engagement and professional standards.
You will make key decisions that keep the department running smoothly, support committees, maintain governance, and ensure all processes and documentation are in order. While education delivery is part of the remit, your focus will be on membership operations, growth, and operational excellence.
You will also oversee international teams, collaborate with UK regional groups, and work with universities, employers, and sector regulators.
As a senior leader, you’ll be accountable for:
- Overseeing the management of Membership and Education teams, ensuring alignment, high performance, and day-to-day operational efficiency
- Leading operational delivery across membership and education functions, from CPD and examinations to accreditation and professional standards
- Taking ownership of key decisions that drive departmental and organisational success
- Driving initiatives to enhance member recruitment, retention, and progression
- Managing budgets, forecasts, and provide strategic reporting to senior leadership
- Ensuring database integrity, subscription processes, and data governance are maintained to the highest standard
- Building strong relationships with committees, professional bodies, and academic partners, providing operational oversight and guidance
- Supporting regional and international staff to deliver high-quality, consistent member experiences
- Leading process improvements and implement initiatives aligned with the organisation’s five-year strategic plan
- Applying operational insight to education frameworks and accreditation within membership structures
