Team: Night Shelters 

Location: On-site at Glass Door women’s night shelter in West London

• 7:00pm to 10:00pm, shifts are available 7 days a week

Job Purpose

As an Evening Women’s Shelter Worker, you’ll be part of the team running Glass Door’s women’s night shelter. Working alongside other staff and volunteers, you’ll engaged with guests throughout the evening, helping to create a safe, calm, and welcoming space where women experiencing homelessness can rest and be treated with dignity. 

You’ll greet guests, support the evening set-up, carry out regular checks around the venue, and offer kind, practical help. When issues arise, you’ll respond calmly — whether that’s offering reassurance, guiding someone through a difficult moment, or addressing challenging behaviour. You’ll record key information so the overnight team and caseworkers can follow up. 

Most evenings are steady and focused on guest support, but there can be moments of pressure. Training is provided so you feel confident and prepared. You’ll finish with a clear handover with the overnight team so the shelter runs smoothly through the night. 

Job Description 

What You’ll Do 

You’ll help make sure the women’s night shelter is safe, supportive, and welcoming for everyone staying with us. This is an on-site, evening role. Your main responsibilities will include: 

• Welcoming and supporting guests – Create a friendly, respectful atmosphere and build positive relationships with guests, volunteers, and colleagues. 

• Welcoming and engaging with guests – Take a proactive approach to being present and approachable throughout the evening, starting conversations, offering support, and helping create a safe and respectful atmosphere. 

• Responding to situations – Manage issues as they arise, such as someone feeling unwell, experiencing emotional distress, or challenging behaviour. This may sometimes mean seeking guidance from the Night Shelter Manager or calling emergency services. Training will be provided. 

• Keep the shelter safe and secure – Follow all safety, security, and health & safety procedures and make sure the space stays tidy and free from hazards. 

• Recording important information – Write clear, accurate shift notes and incident reports (if needed) in our In-Form system so colleagues have up-to-date information. 

• Working as a team – Maintain good communication with the Night Shelter Manager volunteers and other colleagues during your shift. 

• Handover to the overnight team – Participate in a brief, handover meeting at the end of your shift so key information is shared. 

• Training and meetings – Attend occasional in-person training sessions, team meetings, or other activities. You may be assigned brief online training to complete on shift from time to time. 

• Work to a rota – Shifts will include evenings at weekends and on public holidays, so flexibility is important. 

• Help with other tasks as needed – From time to time, you may be asked to help with other reasonable tasks that keep the shelter running smoothly. 

Person Specification

Essential: 

• A genuine commitment to providing a high standard of service and treating everyone with respect, kindness, and dignity. 

• Confidence in handling challenging behaviour calmly and respectfully. 

• Good communication skills, both spoken and written. 

• The ability to carry out manual handling tasks such as moving supplies and equipment. 

• Ability to work well as part of a team and support colleagues. 

Desirable: 

• Experience working with people experiencing homelessness or other vulnerable groups. 

• The ability to speak another language, for example Arabic, Tigrinya, Amharic, Polish, Spanish, French, or Russian. 

• A lived experience of homelessness. 

• An understanding of, and commitment to, trauma-informed care. 

• Relevant training such as first aid, fire safety, conflict de-escalation, or Mental Health First Aid. 

• A manual driving licence (helpful if you wish to cover occasional overnight shifts but not required for this role).

We are creating a new Senior Women’s Caseworker role to deliver tailored health advocacy and support to women experiencing homelessness.

• Provide one-to-one advocacy for around 35 women annually across 11 London boroughs.

We are seeking a flexible, reliable, and enthusiastic Support Worker to deliver services for Young Carers aged 5–16. The role involves three key parts. We are looking for a Supported Housing Support Worker to join our Cook Road, Horsham team, who will hold a caseload of residents and meet with them weekly to build a support plan. Main areas of responsibilities are:

Housing

• Coach young people to manage their occupancy agreement and adhere to house rules, in preparation for independent living. 
• Promote a credit culture, encouraging young people to keep up to date with all payments for rent.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of housing and welfare benefits for young people and be well-informed on significant changes to housing law.
• Deal effectively with non-compliance issues, such as non-payment of rent or damage to room, using restorative practices and working collaboratively with the rest of the team.

Coaching and Engagement

• Coach young people so they can articulate their aspirations and ambitions and take the lead in acquiring the skills they need to live independent and fulfilling lives.
• Ensure young people are encouraged to take responsibility for their own personal development, to engage with the services on offer and build strong networks and connections within the local community. 
• Ensure consistent standards of safeguarding and Trauma Informed Practice when supporting young people, observing our safeguarding procedures, and keeping yourself and residents safe by respecting professional boundaries.
• Maintain client records on In-Form (client database) detailing the young person’s journey in relation to their strengths and needs, any risks, and any outcomes (to monitor service performance). 

General 

• Work as part of a team, on a rota shift pattern, ensuring young people at the service have non-judgemental, objective, and supportive staff during the day/evening, along with taking responsibility for personal safety during periods of lone working
• Contribute to a great working environment, with a calm, yet assertive manner, being able to handle potentially difficult situations.
• Participate in relevant continuing professional development and utilise Reflective Practice Supervision as part of leading psychologically informed practice.

What the role involves

1. Ensuring that there are regular training opportunities for both new starters and those requiring refresher sessions or updates when new functions or forms are released. 7. Working with the Learning and Development Coordinator to support the creation of e-learning training modules for our LMS (currently RISE) Acting at all times in line with safeguarding legislation and guidance in addition to Safer London’s practice guidelines and wider pan-London processes and protocols.

8. Undertaking any other duties as required and commensurate with the level of this post, including covering the Data Reporting and CRS support lead post functions when relevant.

About the role:

This Best Companies Top 100 mid-sized organisation and Top 20 Charity is looking to appoint a Family Support Worker to deliver a high-quality family support service as part of our South West Care Team.

Reporting to the Family Support Manager of the South West Care Team and working in partnership with health, education and social care professionals, you will take responsibility for providing needs-led emotional, social and practical support to families where a child/young person has a life threatening or terminal illness.

Having worked in a stressful and emotional environment you have a genuine interest in building supportive relationships and helping people; and having provided bereavement support to families, you understand processes of grief, loss and change - and how best to help others deal with its impact.

Location:

This post will cover the South West of England, with this position focusing on Bristol and the surrounding area.

What we’re looking for:

· An experienced child health, education or social care professional - applications will be particularly welcome from those who have worked in a community environment and those with a recognised qualification in education, health or social care.

· A warm, inclusive approach to achieving goals quickly and correctly.

· Practiced in child protection, information sharing and the rules around data protection - you lead by example, drawing on your own professional experience and working within established guidelines.

· Practical and people-oriented - you will thrive working at a fast pace whilst maintaining accuracy and be a confident user of IT (including MSOffice)

· A persuasive and open communicator, you will work collaboratively with your team and volunteers to ensure delivery of a high-quality service and support fundraising colleagues by writing case studies and family updates

About the role

The Refugee Council supports separated children across England and part of our service is a team of staff based at the port of Dover, working 24/7 to provide a temporary safeguarding service for children arriving there, ensuring that their basic needs are met while they await transfer to the care of a local authority. The unit is reactive to the needs of clients, who may arrive at any time, and staff are expected to cover a variety of shifts.

As a Support Worker, you will assess the basic needs of newly arrived clients and provide an appropriate service, including food, clothing, and access to hygiene facilities. You will work in the best interests of the child and ensure all safeguarding issues are responded to, reported and accurately recorded.

Mind in Enfield and Barnet is a fast-growing charity in North London providing much needed therapy, wellbeing support and advocacy services to people with mental health problems. 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 experienced Crisis Outreach Workers to support Mind in Enfield and Barnet's Family Hubs Service.This role is to support individuals during the perinatal period (expecting and up to 2 years after birth)  presenting at the Family Hubs experiencing mental health crisis and problems gain immediate support

The purpose of the Outreach Worker is to work with adults during the perinatal period (pre birth up to 2 years after birth), including both parents and carers. You will work as part of MiEB perinatal family hub team to identify those at risk of crisis and ensure referral pathways are in place to facilitate rapid engagement

The successful candidates should have a minimum 2 years experience of working with people with mild, moderate and severe mental health issues. Experience of utilising de-escalation techniques, and supporting clients presenting in emotional distress

We are offering a rewarding opportunity within our Arun, Worthing and Adur team to provide a range of services which aim to make a difference to family and friend carers. The focus will be on Arun District.

Carer Wellbeing Workers provide invaluable services to help improve carers’ resilience and ensure they are supported to maintain their caring roles. They provide tailored information and advice, practical, emotional and planning support, peer opportunities, contingency planning, active listening and through partnership working are pro-active in the identification of carers.

Using experience of working with adults and families, a working knowledge and / or lived experience of social care and health, the post holder will use excellent communication and interpersonal skills to offer carers one-to-one and group support either face to face, via the telephone or using virtual video mediums such as Zoom or MS Teams.  

The role is a mix of remote / homeworking and community venues. You will be expected to be readily able to travel across Arun to deliver carer support and on occasion to venues in Worthing and Adur and across the County to attend meetings and training as required.

Key Responsibilities Summary

• Carer Support: Deliver personalised support through various channels (in-person, online, phone, 1-to-1, and group) across Arun, Worthing and Adur, with a focus on carers in Arun District, including those from under-represented communities.

• Information & Guidance: Provide tailored emotional and practical support using the Carers Star™ framework to help carers create personal plans and achieve positive outcomes.

• Community Engagement: Maintain a visible presence in the community and deliver support in accessible formats.

• Partnership Working: Collaborate with health, social care, and voluntary sector partners to enhance carer support and attend relevant meetings.
