About the role

Alexandra Rose collects and uses a wide range of data to help us run our programmes, understand our impact and influence policy change. We have developed monitoring, reporting and evaluation systems that help us track programme delivery, make informed decisions and demonstrate the difference our work makes to the diets, health and wellbeing of adults and children. We are looking for a proactive and analytical Data and Insights Officer with a keen eye for detail, who thrives on improving data quality, analysing complex information and generating insights that support decision-making across an organisation. You will play a key role in improving Alexandra Rose's data systems and reporting. Working across programme and evaluation data, you will help clean and analyse data, develop dashboards and reports, generate insights for use both internally and for our external partners. You will work closely with our technical partner and distributing centres to ensure that data is reliable, our reporting is robust and our projects can continue to grow effectively.

We are looking for a dynamic, technically skilled Head of Evaluation to play a senior role in shaping and delivering Youth Futures’ evidence strategy.

You will lead a team of Evidence and Evaluation Managers and oversee a portfolio of complex evaluations, helping us generate credible, useful evidence about what works to support marginalised young people into good work.

• Reporting to the Deputy Director of Evidence and Evaluation, you will be responsible for ensuring high-quality delivery of a portfolio of complex impact evaluations.

• You will have a sound understanding of youth employment and/or skills and design evidence-generating projects in a complex field that includes partners from national and devolved government, the third sector and employers.

• You will manage a team of Evaluation Managers, supporting their development while delivering projects that inform Youth Futures’ strategic goals.

This is an opportunity to shape some of the most important evidence being generated on youth employment in England. Across UHB Charity we are currently raising funds for a Total Body PET CT Scanner as well as our Children's and Newborn Appeals and Home from Home accommodation for civilians and military personnel, to name just a few.

As a Grants Manager you will help the Charity provide much needed equipment and facilities that will make a real difference to our patients and their families.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Grants Manager role is primarily based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for University Hospitals Birmingham Charity, with the expectation to travel to the other sites, Good Hope Hospital, Heartlands Hospital, and Solihull Hospital.

This post will oversee the Grants Team at the Charity, with the responsibility of overseeing the distribution of grant funding to projects that align with the charity's mission.

Working as part of a team, the role involves managing the full grant-making process, from designing funding programmes and assessing applications to monitoring funded projects and evaluating their impact. The manager works closely with applicants, trustees, and external stakeholders to ensure funding decisions are fair, transparent, and achieve meaningful outcomes.

They also develop grant policies, manage budgets, ensure compliance with governance and regulatory requirements, and use data and evaluation findings to improve funding strategies.

Strong relationship management, strategic planning, financial oversight, and decision-making skills are essential, along with a commitment to delivering positive social impact.

This role may involve occasional evening and weekend work at charity events and events organised by our supporters.

This role sits within our Grants Team and will oversee two Senior Grants Officers.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

• Ensure grant programmes align with the charity's objectives and priorities.
• Review and update grant policies, procedures, and eligibility criteria.
• Manage grant application processes.
• Oversee grant management systems and databases.
• Conduct due diligence on applicants, including financial and governance checks.
• Prepare reports and recommendations for trustees or grant committees.
• Support decision-making meetings and record outcomes.
• Build positive relationships with grant applicants, funded organisations, and stakeholders.
• Provide advice and guidance to applicants throughout the process.
• Act as the main point of contact for grant recipients.
• Monitor funded projects to ensure grant conditions are met.

• Identify lessons learned to improve future grant programmes.
• Manage grant budgets and payment schedules.

COMMUNICATION

• Relaying accurate and timely information to the fundraising team, the Charity Chief Executive and Charity Trustees on a regular basis. Communicating with clinical and non-clinical staff within the hospital. Communicating with donors and stakeholders.
• Dealing with enquiries from the general public in a professional manner, disseminating information and ensuring that the appropriate action is taken, whilst maintaining the Charity’s policies and procedures.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ability to present oneself in a professional manner as a representative of the hospital and the charity.
• To maintain confidentiality in all aspects of duty, including grant and donor data.
• To assist in maintaining accurate records and to complete and return as requested statistical data.
• To maintain an accurate effective database, recording essential information and providing statistical data in accordance with guidelines and policy using Raiser's Edge, Microsoft Office, Word and Access.

MISCELLANEOUS

• To represent the Charity in a variety of different contexts and to a variety of different audiences.
• To ensure that a positive image of the hospital and the Charity is projected at all times
• To hold a flexible approach to working hours (the role will require the post holder to work evenings and weekends as necessary)
• To hold a flexible approach to work when asked to take on other fundraising or admin duties when the team needs to cover holidays, or at times of workload pressure

The Grants Manager will also carry out other projects and duties as directed by the Head of Fundraising, Director of Fundraising and Charity Chief Executive.

You will ensure that grantees are fully supported to manage their grants and ensure that grant management is compliant, auditable, efficient, and timely. You don’t need to have managed grants before, but you do need to have a good understanding of a wide range enterprises and charities, gained through experience of training, business consultancy or development support. You will have a good understanding of business models, legal structures and financial systems that social and environmental organisations and community run and owned businesses may use. You will need to understand social enterprise finances, be able to read accounts, budgets, cashflows and have a good knowledge of social enterprise income streams.

We need someone who understands how hard it is to start up and grow social and environmental enterprises and can support people from diverse backgrounds in managing their grant, finances and growing their business.

Social entrepreneurs scaling their ventures face a specific set of challenges including income generation, hiring, governance, hard calls about growth and risk, all alongside scaling their social impact. We’re recruiting learning and enterprise development managers who’ve lived that journey themselves, to bring first-hand credibility and challenge directly to the entrepreneurs on our scale-up and scale-up-plus programmes.

You’ll hold ownership of SSE’s scale-up approach, shaping our learning content on strategy, profitability and the systems that hold a growing venture together – grounded in what actually works, not just what’s written down. Facilitation sits at the heart of this role. You’ll design and deliver learning programmes and group sessions for cohorts of entrepreneurs as well as leading 1-2-1 coaching and diagnostics, and delivering Action Learning Sets, SSE’s long-standing peer-coaching method (training provided).

We’re looking for people who’ve founded or led a VCSE with an annual turnover of £100,000 or more and held financial accountability such as statutory reporting to the Charity Commission and, where relevant, Companies House, reporting to a board or funders, and making hard calls about growth, income and risk.

We are looking for two experienced managers to join us for two fixed term Portfolio Manager roles (12-month FTC and FTC until 31 March 2027) who will form part of a team of around 40 in total.

The UK Portfolio supports the ambitions and potential of communities across the UK.  We focus on scaling projects with a UK-wide benefit, through significant investments and partnerships, which enable systems-level change for communities. Our funding is intended to complement the work of other country portfolios: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Our Portfolio Managers support the delivery of the UK Portfolio strategy through managing the design and delivery of funding programmes, helping shape and deliver new partnerships and investments, as well as managing our team of Funding Officers. You will be one of 10 Portfolio Managers and report to one of our senior team, working closely with them to deliver the UK Portfolio strategy now and as we move into the next phase.

Our current work includes:

• TheUK Fund: offers long term funding to support organisations to scale proven work and approaches against two main themes: connected communities and youth voice. Funded projects consistently focus on systems change, community power and voice.
• Climate Action Fund: supports UK-wide ambitious, partnership-led approaches to climate and environmental challenges, bringing together organisations to deliver long-term change at scale.
• Working in partnership with others: Examples include Communities for Children, focused on tackling child poverty, Together for Families, supporting early intervention for children and families. We are also developing new areas of work that explore the opportunities and implications of emerging technologies including artificial intelligence.

Role Expectations

We are looking for experienced managers who are confident in managing and developing others, managing performance and adept at managing a varied workload from across our funding lifecycle to new funding investments and partnerships.

You will first and foremost be a people manager, with the skills and experience of navigating operational delivery from budgets, resourcing and risk, for example, to ensuring quality delivery of our work and supporting a culture that enables people to thrive.

You could be working across any of our programmes and developing areas of work but an interest in our current funding programmes and areas of development is essential. If you have a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing communities across the UK, these roles are for you.

All managers will have blended roles that combine people and some operational responsibilities, as well as involvement in developing areas of work. The variety of responsibilities could include:

• Line managing and developing Funding Officers, supporting performance, wellbeing and ensuring their continuous development and professional growth
• Ensuring operational excellence through resource and operational management: including across our funding programmes and partnerships, including managing budgets, risk and reporting  
• Overseeing the end-to-end funding programme process: including monitoring programme performance, assuring the quality of funding recommendations and decisions and ensuring a high-quality and consistent experience for customers and stakeholders.
• Contributing to the development of new funding approaches, partnerships and investment opportunities.
• Working closely with teams and colleagues across The Fund to ensure our work is connected into and adds value.

You will need to work collectively and very closely with the other managers each day as to how responsibilities and workstream leads are agreed and managed.

We're looking for people with practical experience of the funding and grant-making environment, who can bring their sound judgement relating to this to the team. You will also bring strong analytical, project and stakeholder and relationship management skills, alongside the ability to be adaptable and comfortably work at pace.

You’ll be joining a dynamic and welcoming geographically dispersed team, working with hugely important and fascinating projects that are responding to and addressing a wide range of topics across the Fund’s four community-led missions.

Due to our dispersed nature as a team, it is expected that there will be occasional travel in order to connect with colleagues, stakeholders and projects. This is likely to be one to two occasions per month.
