About this role

SPANA is investing in its Grants and Compliance function to strengthen financial oversight and accountability across its global partnerships. The Grants and Compliance team plays a critical role in safeguarding resources, supporting partners and ensuring compliance with donor requirements and SPANA’s internal policies. The team works closely with colleagues across departments and with partner organisations to deliver impactful programmes for the welfare of working animals worldwide.
Reporting to the Grants Compliance Manager, the Grants Finance Officer is a key role within this function. The position ensures robust financial management of grants and partner funding by reviewing financial reports, conducting compliance checks and supporting partners with capacity building. The role also maintains accurate grant records, assists with due diligence and contributes to risk assessments and audit processes. By providing clear financial support and guidance, the Grants Finance Officer helps SPANA and its partners meet donor expectations and strengthen accountability, ultimately enabling better programme delivery and impact.

Contract, location and salary

This is a UK based, permanent, full-time (34.5 hours per week) role, and current right to work in the UK is required. This is a hybrid position with regular attendance (1-2 days per month or more if preferred) in our London office. 

The salary for this position is c.£34,000 per annum subject to skills and experience.

We are the main grant-making and fundraising charity for Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (Moorfields) and its academic partner UCL (in particular the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology), two world-leading institutions. The majority of our support funds innovation and research into eye health, and we have an emphasis on building capacity and developing the careers of researchers and clinicians.

We have ambitious plans. We have put into action a five-year business plan that is supporting our growth from raising and funding around £6 million annually to becoming a £10 million a year charity.

This is an exciting opportunity for a grants officer to bring enthusiasm and experience to our dedicated team, following robust and effective processes to select and award the most impactful projects and programmes, and collaborating with a number of varied stakeholders.

About the role

You will be joining a friendly and supportive grants and research team who are committed to ensuring the charity has robust grant making mechanisms to determine best use of charitable funding together with monitoring and evaluating projects and programmes. 

You will be the primary point of contact for applicants and other stakeholders throughout the grant management process, ensuring they are supported and managed in a professional and timely manner. This would include communicating feedback to applicants on funding proposals following decision making. You will support development of content that advertises funding opportunities and showcases the impact of the charity's funding.

Our close proximity, and working relationships, with Moorfields and its academic partner UCL (in particular the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology) are very important to this role. A successful candidate will enjoy working with academics, clinicians and other hospital staff, supporting their engagement with, and applications to, our funding programmes.

About you

You will have ambition to develop or expand your career in grants management within a growing grant-making charity. You will have a qualification in a biomedical sciences/health subject. 

• You will also have research experience in an academic or clinical setting and an understanding of research funding processes in a grant-making charity.
• You will be an excellent communicator, able to build confident working relationships at all levels. An ability to network and liaise with scientific, clinical and research communities will be key to your success in this role.

The Senior Funding Operations Officer is a key role in the Finance and Funding Operations team, that provides operational and financial support across the organisation. 

The role is responsible for:
 

• Grant and contract management activities, ensuring all grants and contracts are progressed appropriately and systems are kept up to date 
• Liaising with teams, both inside the organisation and externally, to ensure the smooth running of grant processes 
• Managing complex operational administrative issues

The role of the Operations Officer (Licensing and Compliance) is to support the development, coordination and delivery of Licensing and Compliance processes and procedures across the Association.

The Operations Officer (Licensing and Compliance) will support the Senior Licensing and Compliance Manager and other members of the Operations Team to ensure that, through the consistent and proactive use of standards, policies and quality assurance processes, backed up by effective licensing, the intellectual property and good reputation of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is effectively protected.

The role will work closely with Operations Directors, Operations Managers and the Foundation Finance Team to support licensing of Operators.

Key Responsibilities

• Processing, in liaison with relevant Operations Team colleagues, new licence applications from Independent Award Centres (IACs), including due diligence and database management.
• Lead on the management of the IAC Compliance Check schedule and surrounding processes including regular communications with relevant Operations Managers.
• Coordinate the ongoing compliance management process for IACs.
• Provide support to the Senior Licensing & Compliance Manager with processes related to the compliance for National Award Operators (NAOs) and Operating Partners (OPs).

Working closely with programme teams, you will ensure that development and communications activity amplifies the impact of existing programmes, while identifying and developing new opportunities that deliver meaningful outcomes for young people across the UK.

You will drive the development of strategic partnerships and funding relationships to expand the reach and influence of In2science’s work. Responsibilities 

Development

• To collaborate with the senior leadership team and trustees in setting organisational strategy and building strategic partnerships to support In2science’s vision for 2026 and beyond.

• Lead on planning, implementation and delivery of segmented fundraising and stewardship campaigns across programmes and audiences with a 2026 income target of £1.5m. 

• Lead and manage a diverse fundraising portfolio, including corporate partnerships, trusts and foundations, research grants (e.g., UKRI), government funding, and individual giving.

• To lead a small but effective development team, including an external fundraising contractor to build upon our success to date to achieve funding targets and foster strategic relationships with funding and delivery partners.

• Budget and resource all aspects of development and communications, including engaging with external contractors to maximise our output and upskill our teams.

• Work closely with the Head of Operations to oversee our CRM, ensuring accurate pipeline reporting and forecasting, as well as utilising the system for tailored stewardship opportunities.

We are looking for an ambitious, experienced and passionate Chief Financial & Operations Officer (CFOO) to join The Lifescape Project, leading the evolution, management and delivery of our financial and operational capacities as the organisation grows.

Our impact as a charity depends on excellent financial management and the efficient provision of supporting operational structures, policies and ways of working. As the organisation grows and diversifies, we need a dedicated Chief Financial and Operations Officer to lead the management and development of these critical functions in close liaison with the CEO. The CFOO will be second in command to the CEO and a key member of the Management Team.

We are a small and quickly growing UK-registered charity whose mission is to protect and restore wild, natural landscapes. We use the skills and expertise of our multi-disciplinary team (spanning science, law, economics, technology and culture) to develop projects that pursue this mission.

We use the approach of combining disciplines to design and deliver our work because the biodiversity crisis is driven and impacted by social, economic, legal and other complex factors. It is increasingly recognised that the urgent transformative change needed for a sustainable future on our planet is most effectively achieved through this approach. Working in pursuit of our 2020-2026 strategy, the Lifescape Project has seen rapid growth in its impact, team and revenue since commencing work in 2020. Our annual revenue has increased from £265,000 in FY 2020/2021 to £1.2m in FY 2024/2025, with further growth expected in the current FY. Our team has grown from just one to a team which will number 20 at the time of the successful CFOO candidate joining. This growth to date and planned future growth requires constant evolution of our financial and operational infrastructure and an experienced hand to guide this process, which is the core purpose of the CFOO role we are seeking to appoint.

We are excited to be hiring for this role, which will be transformational for the organisation, allowing us to develop our approach to financial and operational matters and support the continued growth of our team and impact. The role will act as second in command and will deputise for the CEO when absent. We are therefore looking for a highly capable and experienced finance and operations leader with the vision to ensure that we continue to grow in a sustainable, effective and efficient way.

We currently have a full-time manager and officer in our Finance and Operations team (F&O Team), which the CFOO will be joining to oversee, develop and guide all relevant functions. With the small size of the team at this time, the CFOO will be expected to jump into the detail in some areas. In the short term this will include delivering some of the more complex areas of the F&O team’s work, such as the audit process, multi-year financial planning and legal compliance, with support from other team members and external advisers as appropriate. If we continue to succeed in delivering our growth strategy, the role will progress over the medium term with increasing team size/supervisory duties and reducing involvement in immediate implementation. Job description

The Capacity Development unit seeks an officer to support the implementation of the Advocacy Institute programme.The Advocacy Institute is a flagship programme of the NCDA that strengthens NCD civil society with a focus on coalition building and advocacy. It includes Seed, Accelerator and Regional tracks reflecting the different levels of readiness of alliances and their needs. The Seed track supports the establishment and strengthening of NCD civil society networks incountries/regions where these are non-existent or nascent. The Accelerator track works with established NCD alliances to spur advocacy efforts where there are windows of opportunity for specific policy change. The Regional track supports coalition building, advocacy and accountability opportunities of regional alliances. The programme supports selectedgeographies via a combination of grants, technical assistance, peer-to-peer learning, and training; the position will also support the delivery of such offerings.

The Capacity Development Officer will support the roll-out of the Seed and Accelerator tracks, currently in the last year of the Advocacy Institute third phase 2024-2026, and its work with different national alliances aiming to increase the capacity of NCD alliances to drive effective locally-owned advocacy campaigns. In 2026, the officer will also support the evaluation process for the third phase and the design and scoping of the Advocacy Institute fourth phase. 
 

Core responsibilities:

•Support the roll out of Advocacy Institute particularly the seed and accelerator tracks in their different components: grants, technical support, and trainings.

•Support the CD unit in grant management duties, including grantee communications, revision of technical and financial proposals, grant award and grantee reporting.

•Support the organisation of the Advocacy Institute trainings, webinars and events as required, includingparticipant support, administrative functions, supporting curriculum development, and evaluation.

·Support the evaluation process of the third phase of the Advocacy Institute (2024-2026).

·Support the scoping of the fourth phase of the Advocacy Institute.

·Leverage NCDA expertise providing technical assistance to alliances and facilitating networking opportunities, enable access to NCDA expertise, advocacy advice and support, and also access to a broader network of advocates who can provide peer-to-peer support.

Required competencies:

·Advanced university degree in public health, international relations, public policy, or similar, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in the non-profit area.

·Demonstrated interest and understanding of global health and development; policy-oriented research and advocacy, knowledge of NCDs would be ideal, particularly on aspects related to NCD prevention (e.g., alcohol control, food policies, environmental health/air pollution) and control (e.g. access to medicines, Universal health coverage, primary health care, NcDs/HIV integration) and NCD financing. Health policy and/or public health background is preferred.

·International work experience is highly desired, as well as professional knowledge of research, advocacy, policy and/or programmes.

About you

You are comfortable working on complex proposal budgets, including for commercial contracts and non-traditional funding mechanisms, and have a solid understanding of donor compliance requirements and cost recovery principles.

You bring excellent attention to detail, strong Excel skills, and the ability to explain financial and contractual issues clearly to non-finance colleagues. You are confident working independently across a mixed portfolio, supporting programmes across the full project lifecycle from proposal development and contracting through to delivery, reporting, and close-out. About the role

The Senior Programme Finance Specialist provides senior financial, contractual, and compliance leadership across a mixed portfolio of programmes funded by institutional, corporate, and philanthropic donors. The role has a strong focus on programme funding and proposal development, working closely with Programme Funding colleagues, Programme Managers, and Country Offices to develop compliant, well-structured budgets and financial narratives.

Key objectives include ensuring robust financial design at proposal stage, effective financial oversight during delivery, and strong compliance and audit readiness across the portfolio. The role also contributes to financial risk management, supports contract negotiations and amendments, and provides technical advice and capacity strengthening to colleagues and partners. Strong budgeting capability, experience with institutional and corporate proposals, and the ability to work confidently with commercial contracts are central to success in this role.

Role overview:

The Finance Manager will work closely with the CEO, Treasurer, and bookkeeper to manage daily financial functions, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive financial performance - including budgeting and forecasting. 

• Contract and working conditions: This is a fixed-term role (initially 18 months) which we envisage will transition to a permanent position. • Strategic responsibilities: The Finance Manager will support financial target delivery, ensure robust financial systems, and align financial processes with organisational growth and strategy. 

• Operational duties: Responsibilities include preparation of management accounts and all financial reporting, cash flow forecasting, grant management, VAT and tax compliance, audit support, and process improvements. • Governance and compliance: The Finance Manager will ensure adherence to the requirements of the Companies Act, Charities Act, and HMRC regulations, ensuring we prepare and submit our statutory accounts on time.  You will coordinate the annual audit, review internal controls, and report financial risks to the ESPE leadership.

• Leadership and collaboration: The role includes providing financial guidance to coordinators and teams to support informed decision-making. 

• Required experience and skills: Candidates must be a qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/AAT/ICAEW) with at least three years experience in financial or management accounting, preferably in a professional body or learned society. Proficiency in accounting software, and having significant knowledge and understanding of VAT (ideally across Europe), analytical skills, communication, and project management skills are essential.

Duties and key responsibilities

Financial Administration and Bookkeeping

• Responsibility for maintaining all financial records and data accurately and within agreed systems, to include:Maintaining up-to-date records in Sage 50.
• Importing bank receipts into Sage from Raiser’s Edge NXT.
• Processing purchase invoices, card transactions, and payments, ensuring correct coding to nominal and departmental ledgers.
• Maintaining payment records and reconciling grant payments within Sage 50 and grant management software.
