We are seeking a Finance Officer with a keen eye for detail, and an aptitude for learning new skills, to take on purchase ledger and payroll administration duties in our Finance Department.   You will have either begun on the path of attaining a financial qualification or had some experience in a similar role.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of all purchases, payments and returns, including supplier invoices, staff payments (salaries, expenses and advances), project and contractor payments and credit card transactions.  Responsible for project reporting against budget.

Key responsibilities (full responsibilities listed in the application pack):

• Ownership of the purchase ledger system, administering the entire process of invoice receiving, checking, coding, distributing for approval, posting to the accounts software (currently Sage), setting up domestic and international payments for authorisation, and electronic filing of documents.
• Administering all credit card returns including distribution of statements to colleagues, checking and coding returns, collating documents, submitting for line-manager approval, posting to Sage and following up on outstanding items.
• Administering staff and contractors expense claims, advances, returns and funds transfer requests, including checking and coding, submitting for budget-holder approval, arranging payment both domestic and international, and electronic filing of documents.
• Recording project expenditure against budget and drafting project financial returns to meet funder deadlines.

Essential criteria (full criteria listed in the application pack):

• Either started on a financial qualification or have had experience in a similar role
• Exposure to SAGE Line50 or other accounting package.
• Confident using Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
• Previous experience of using accounting software.

Role Purpose

The purpose of the Fundraiser role is primarily to raise funds from UK trusts, foundations and statutory funders and to identify, generate, grow and maintain this vital income stream. Some engagement to support other strands of fundraising will be required.

​Context

The post-holder will work to the Chief Financial Officer and closely with the Chief Operating Officer and other managers of Cathedral teams. Their role will involve research and information gathering on potential donors and funding opportunities, a creative and broad approach to application planning and writing, good written and interpersonal skills and attention to detail in managing application and post-grant reporting processes. It requires the post holder to take a wide interest in all aspects of Cathedral life in order to deliver effective funding support to the work of colleagues.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Research and Identification of Funders

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of our research projects and research funding plans, including in response to requests from Heads of Department and Senior Management Team;
• Research, identify and prioritise potential grants, personal & institutional trusts and statutory funders and funding opportunities, including keeping up to date with new fundraising opportunities in the faith and heritage sectors and in London;
• Undertake research on funders and grant making bodies to assess their potential for funding opportunities;
• Gather information and budgetary information from cathedral colleagues as required by potential funders;
• Develop and write high quality, compelling fundraising proposals and applications which communicate Southwark Cathedral’s funding needs clearly and concisely;
• Work with the Marketing & Communications Manager to develop a compelling case for support documents and other donor materials to attract support for our research projects;
• Develop and maintain a pipeline of applications to trusts & foundations.

Fundraising

• Secure funding from UK trusts, foundations and statutory funding bodies to meet Budgetary targets and support proposed future projects at the Cathedral;
• Support the implementation of a trusts and foundations programme, with a view to increasing funding for flagship projects alongside core unrestricted funding;
• Assist with the organisation of fundraising events as required;
• Ensure approaches to trusts and other donors are streamlined and targeted.

Contact and Liaison

• Manage the Cathedral’s donor records including gift aid declarations, personal information and legacy pledges and other non-financial information provided by donors - adhering to data protection best practice at all times;
• Liaise with the Marketing & Communications Manager to analyse the existing donor communications and suggest improved methods of engagement;
• Liaise with the Marketing & Communications Manager to arrange for the creation and maintenance of pages on the Cathedral website that highlight the fundraising activity and communicate successes achieved;
• Act as the primary point of contact for all existing and potential trust and grants funders, directing enquiries as appropriate;
• Develop a network of strong relationships with existing and prospective grant, trust and statutory funders;
• Organise meetings and events for prospective supporters and provide briefings for colleagues.

Information Management, Monitoring and Evaluation

• Maintain the Cathedral’s fundraising database, ensuring all records are updated and maintained correctly in accordance with the Cathedral’s data protection policy;
• Manage the reporting, recording and administration progress of existing grants, advising relevant members of the team well in advance of reporting deadlines;
• Work with others to develop and implement effective evaluation, monitoring and reporting processes for funders, and ensure reporting requirements are fulfilled and activities remain outcome and impact focused;
• Manage and maintain records and monitor progress of applications and relationships, including working to agreed KPIs;
• Prepare regular progress reports on fundraising and activities for SMT and the Chapter as required;
• Use the Cathedral’s fundraising database to analyse the success rates to support fundraising strategy and individual projects;
• Work with the Finance team to ensure that all funding is quickly and correctly processed and acknowledged and that financial reports are available in the appropriate format;
• Work with the Governance & Committees Manager and Finance Team to support reporting requirements and compliance with the relevant legislation and codes of conduct;
• Work with the COO and Marketing & Communications Manager to create appropriate evaluation and legacy documentation.

Other

• Manage the relevant administration that accompanies this role, including booking meetings and taking minutes as required;
• Play an active role as a member of the Cathedral team, supporting each other as required;
• Be an ambassador for the Cathedral and assist the Fundraising Advisory Panel in developing positive relationships with the Cathedral’s key stakeholders.

Person Specification

Knowledge/Experience

• You will have experience of writing fundraising bids and completing engaging applications;
• You will have knowledge and experience of heritage, community or religious grant-funding sources and how to access them;

• You will be proficient in project finances, and budgeting, with skills in persuasion, advocacy, problem-solving, and decision-making;

Terms and Conditions

Working Hours

The working hours shall be 35 hours per week (exclusive of meal breaks). Some out of hours working will be required to support meetings and events and this will be notified in advance. Time off in lieu will be awarded in line with Southwark Cathedral’s policy.

Annual Leave

25 days per annum as well as statutory bank holidays, with an additional 5 days (pro-rata) after 10 years service. 

Probation

The appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.

Season Ticket Loan

Once the probationary period has been completed satisfactorily, the person appointed will be eligible to take out a season ticket loan.

Pension

The person appointed will be eligible to join a defined contributions pension scheme managed by the Church Workers Pension Fund. The Cathedral will contribute half of the annual premium of 10% of salary.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND PURPOSE OF THE POST

The Institutional Relations team is responsible for donor engagement and influencing, institutional funding, and partnerships in the UK. It comprises the Head of Institutional Relations, a Commercial Contracts Manager and three Programme Funding Officers.

As part of HI’s 2016-2025 strategy, we have ambitious targets for growth in institutional funding from UK donors, and more broadly, a focus on building strategic relationships with key UK donors and partners. Given the changing external funding environment and evolving context in the UK, we are looking for an individual who is willing to be flexible and adapt to the context in order to meet the organisation’s needs and have the biggest impact for people with disabilities.

The main purpose of this post is:

· Improving our track record for UK and other funding by increasing internal understanding of donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, supporting high quality submissions, grant management and donor compliance

Strengthening relationships with, and generating and managing funding from UK and other institutional donors and partners

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Promoting our work and building relationships with institutional donors

Supporting the work of the Head of Institutional Relations, you will have sound knowledge of the donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, and contribute proactively to influencing their funding strategies and priorities. Duties include:

· Maintain a good understanding of HI’s programmes, strategy and approach and communicate this externally.

· Identify and build relationships with a portfolio of large public and private institutional donors and their key suppliers (e.g. INGOs and for-profit development companies), mobilising colleagues from UK and across the global organisation as required.

· Work with country programmes to develop country-level action plans to engage with local representatives of UK donors and partners, in order to strengthen in-country relationships, influence donors’ country-level plans and access in-country funding opportunities. This will also involve supporting the development of multi-year operational plans and advise on the funding possibilities offered by UK institutional donors.

· Anticipate future trends and the expectations of the donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, influence their policies and strategies, and negotiate and consult with them on institutional funding matters, in liaison with the appropriate colleagues from the UK team and federal network.

· In coordination with the Head of Institutional Relations and the Chief Executive, monitor and where needed, contribute to collective work and advocacy initiatives in collaboration with partners and INGO networks (such as the Start Network and targeted Bond groups) with the aim of raising HI’s profile and influencing UK donors in line with our influencing priorities.

Generate and manage institutional funding from UK donors

You will follow and champion HI’s internal institutional funding procedures to identify and analyse funding opportunities from UK sources, contribute to project submissions, and carry out grant management duties. You will:

· Monitor, identify, analyse and communicate all relevant funding opportunities from donors in your portfolio (including development and humanitarian grant opportunities and commercial contracts). This will involve facilitating internal go/no go decision-making for new opportunities and advising, and supporting programme colleagues on positioning and consortium-building when relevant.

· Lead the review and analysis of the requirements in new funding agreements and contracts, advise internal stakeholders on compliance and ensure appropriate contract negotiation and due diligence processes are followed.

· Implement internal procedures for contract/grant management and support the submission of reporting and payment requests according to donor requirements.

Improve our track record for UK institutional funding

You will be responsible for increasing internal understanding of UK donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, supporting high quality strategic submissions and donor compliance. You will:

· Create internal communications, train and brief finance, programme and technical staff (including country programmes) on the donors in your portfolio, ensuring they have the tools and knowledge to comply with donor rules, understand donor priorities and focus areas, and maximise the potential for funding.

· Support proposal development, advising on donor requirements, expectations and preferences.

· Build strong relationships and internal links with technical and programme teams and contribute to internal working groups on issues related to institutional funding.

Other duties

· Maintain a positive and collaborative working relationship with HI UK colleagues and the Federal Institutional Funding, and Operations teams.

· Actively contribute to the HI UK operational plan and team work plans, and internal staff meetings.

· Ensure high quality, accurate internal reporting and information management for your portfolio.

· Keep abreast of developments within the sector by liaising with counterparts in other NGOs, and relevant networks.

We assess functional vision and test for cerebral visual impairments, which can often be an overlooked establishing operation for behavioural challenges. As well as direct assessment and intervention to work to increase people’s opportunities in life, we train our support teams to meet the people we supports’ unique needs.  Our team members are committed to joint working with families, support teams and our NHS and local authority colleagues to achieve the best outcomes for the people we support.

We work as partners with the residential or supported living teams to build plans that are accepted, operationally achievable, generalisable, and sustainable. 

Your experience & personal characteristics 

As you will be working with people in their own homes, residential and group supported living services, you must be confident engaging with diverse groups of people, family members and multi-agency professionals.  You need to be passionate about equality and equity, being able to see the potential for improvement and knowing how to guide the person we support and their team to achieve the best. About the role

Becoming the Programme Marketing Manager at the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women is a fantastic opportunity to help drive progress for women entrepreneurs in low and middle income countries by engaging more people in our work.

The key purpose of this role is to effectively market our programmes to participants – chiefly our HerVenture business skills microlearning app and our sector-leading Mentoring Women in Business programme.

This will span three main projects:

· to successfully manage a marketing agency to effectively market the HerVenture app to women in South Africa (as part of a fixed-term project with active marketing ongoing until Mar ‘25);

· to successfully manage the same marketing agency to promote the app in Nigeria (as part of a separate fixed-term project with active marketing ongoing until Dec ‘24); and

· to effectively promote the opportunity to become a mentor to a woman entrepreneur through our Mentoring Women in Business programme to paying professionals worldwide. Your objective will be to secure 18+ paid mentors for the Nov ’24 programme intake and 20+ for the May ’25 intake.

Following the completion of the two HerVenture marketing projects, you will also lead other programme marketing initiatives in 2025. These will be determined in late 2024.

Following the May ’25 Mentoring intake you will deliver a strategy, harnessing your learning and analysis to outline an approach for marketing the programme to paying mentors in future.

You will also be called on to support other forms of programme marketing on an ad hoc basis, for example advising on development of corporate pitch decks, or co-designing materials for fundraising events.

This position reports directly to the Head of Communications and Marketing, however this is a highly collaborative role and you will also work closely with the Entrepreneurship programmes team and the Programme Funding team to develop and deliver plans and manage projects.

Our ideal candidate will be a knowledgeable and motivated marketer with experience in ‘selling’ professional development / online volunteering opportunities, and in managing agencies and contractors to deliver on fixed projects as aligned to good marketing practices. You should be highly organised and goals-driven, with a collaborative approach, a growth-oriented mindset, and a strong desire to harness the power of marketing to support women’s economic empowerment.

About the opportunity
Corporate partnerships are critical to delivering our mission and ensuring we can support as many children and young people facing disadvantage to open doors to their future. The Philanthropy Team as a whole has a combined target income for the current year (2023-24) of £1.83 million (growing to £2.35m as our target for next year) of which approximately £850k is from corporate donors and their foundations. We have been successful year on year in increasing our fundraising base by building secure multi-year partnerships. Part of our growth strategy is looking at building stronger relationships with corporate partners, having established a strong multi-year relationship for the first time this year worth £500k annually. We have a great ability to measure and quantify its impact, which we are looking to better communicate and leverage with current and potential corporate partners.

We’re looking for a Corporate Partnerships Manager to lead on our corporate partnership activities and initiatives, including growing income from corporate partners as well as increasing the number of corporate volunteer tutor applications we receive from them. Working within our Philanthropy Team, the Corporate Partnerships Manager will be responsible for the line-management and development of two Corporate Partnership Coordinators, ensuring that, as a team, you meet your corporate income and volunteer application targets. Duties and responsibilities
• Manage, maintain and leverage existing corporate partner relationships alongside, as relevant, the Head of Philanthropy and Fundraising Manager, including proactively reporting to partners on the impact of their funding, giving and volunteering to encourage further support from them.

• Work with the CEO, Head of Philanthropy and Fundraising Manager to ensure Action Tutoring’s fundraising targets are met, and manage an effective pipeline across Action Tutoring’s different income streams.

• Working with the Head of Philanthropy and Fundraising Manager, with an end goal of increasing both income and volunteer tutor applications from corporate partners, including, as relevant, agreeing to set the strategic plan for corporate partnerships and identifying which ones are most fruitful, defining their journey, and setting targets for both income and volunteers.

• Work with the Head of Philanthropy and Fundraising Manager to support the completion of grant applications for corporate foundations, using the Fundraising Manager as a point of expertise ensuring that reporting requirements for grants and donations are met.

• Working with your Corporate Partnership Coordinators, research and drive new opportunities for high-value multi-year commitments. Support the CEO and Head of Philanthropy in pitching those relationships where appropriate.

The Margins Project, Union Chapel’s Frontline charity, work with people who are homeless or who are at risk of homelessness and helps address pertinent social justice issues these communities face.

The charity runs three integrated programmes:

• a community drop-in programme providing access to nutritious hot meals, and limited access to showers & laundry services.

• advice and engagement programme providing one-to-one as well as group advice service on benefits and housing, and onward referrals to pertinent services.

• support employment programme offers a paid catering training to 10 people who have had experience of homelessness, substance misuse, mental ill-health, and or imprisonment.

Our range of services are designed to help guests (service users) at varying stages, from having no roof over their head to getting back into employment.

This role offers an opportunity for an experienced adviser to help shape and evolve Margins services. Experiences on the ground at the drop-in programme inform the charity’s strategic direction. The role will involve expanding our partner network to link into pertinent statutory and other charitable organisations that provide services that will help our guests with their housing, substance misuse, recidivism, and mental health challenges.

We work closely with people on an individual case work basis to get guests off the streets, into hostels or temporary accommodation where possible, and work with private and social landlords on a range of issues. We support and represent the people we work with on the phone and in person, including at the council, the doctors, the job centre, and benefits tribunals.

Our drop-ins run on Mondays and Wednesdays 11:00am to 1:00pm where attendance is currently from 65 to 75 guests. The advice and engagement worker works more intensively with smaller numbers of up to 20. The demand for more follow up work and advocacy support has been increasing over the last two years and this in-house advice worker is critical for this demand.

Working collaboratively with the Drop-in Community worker (currently vacant), the head chef, and a small group of dedicated volunteers, you will be responsible for the support of a caseload of guests, some with complex needs, and will undertake key work responsibilities including registering the guests, identifying their housing, benefit and personal needs and conducting all necessary follow ups including occasional advocacy support, where deemed necessary.

• To advise and assist guests (service users) with benefit claims and related issues, e.g., Housing Benefit, DLA, PIP, Income Support, ESA, Universal Credit, and other benefits. In particular, assisting them to claim Housing Benefit and UC to reduce risk of rent arrears.

• To develop significant contact and liaison with comparable housing and benefits advice organisations.

• To encourage guests engage with Margins activities, and where practicable, with the wider Union Chapel activities.

• To develop, facilitate and deliver group advice workshops/training programmes and open discussions forums to engage guests who historically do not engage with Union Chapel.

• To Refer Margins guests to relevant internal and external services.

• In liaison with the head of Margins and the chef to refer potential candidates to Margins’ Supported Employment Programme.

The Advice and Engagement Worker will have an active role in identifying and engaging guests as well as referring potential candidates to the Supported Employment Programme, a programme anticipated to expand beyond its current services in Margins catering.

Are you an experienced corporate fundraiser with an interest in working in the international development sector? Are you creative, strategic, highly organised, a confident and effective communicator and strong team player? 

We are looking for an experienced Senior Corporate Fundraising Manager to work closely with the Head of Programme Funding to drive new donor engagement and secure sustainable, multi-year funding. If you are seeking a dynamic and engaging fundraising role which offers you the chance to play a pivotal role within a small but ambitious organisation, then this could be the job for you.

About the Role 

The Country Trust Impact and Learning Lead is a flexible and fulfilling opportunity in our growing, energetic charity. You'll ensure evaluation and learning are embedded throughout the organisation, setting the standard for measuring and articulating our difference.  As a versatile senior leader, you'll shape our strategic direction by championing our Theory of Change and embedding impact across our activities from the start. 

Starting from a strong position with our existing evaluation framework, you'll nurture a culture of evidence-based improvement across programmes such as our Farm Discovery and Countryside Discovery Residential programmes, in all reaching over 70,000 children annually.

About You 

• You are a team player, skilled in designing evaluation and learning activities ensuring all voices are heard.
• Experienced in commissioning and/or managing external research or evaluation partners. 
• With strengths in quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis and storytelling, you'll create compelling reports that drive decision-making.
• You are an excellent communicator engaging diverse stakeholders, and an inspiring presenter and writer advocating our cause. 
• You are a curious, creative thinker piloting innovative ways to gather and visualise data. While no deep academic research knowledge is required, you'll have an appreciation of different methods, tools and approaches. 
• You can balance priorities and get hands-on. 
• You are skilled at designing and delivering training. 
• You understand the realities facing disadvantaged children and are committed to creating quality opportunities through our work 
• You have strong IT skills. 
• You have firsthand experience working with or within primary education. 
• You ideally have experience in the charity sector and a passion for food, farming and the countryside is desirable.

Then this could be the role for you. At the Digital Poverty Alliance, we are looking for our new Policy & Insights Manager. You must be able to inspire us and our partners and spearhead our public affairs work, including through our National Delivery Plan to unite action to end digital poverty by 2030.

We bring together charities, corporates and government to address the underlying issues stopping families gaining full access to digital services such as education, healthcare and employment. We seek social change through our National Delivery Plan, whilst also delivering solutions in local areas that help real people and provide evidence for change. 

This is an exciting, high profile and fast-paced role, joining our small team and working alongside partners, National Delivery Committee members and our wider stakeholders to effect real change for people. You will report directly to the Chief Executive, working alongside our Head of External Affairs.

A big part of our social change ambition is delivered through our public affairs work; influencing policy makers so that our ambitions are shared with government, companies and with everyone able to deliver to our vision of a world where everyone is able to connect successfully with the digital world where and when they want to.  You will also be responsible for drafting white papers, analysing trends and data, and identifying new insights.  You will support our Industry Forum, working with existing and new members to broaden the group.

The DPA aims to work through partners in delivering to our core mission and, as such, we retain only a small core team with support from our PR agency. As such, you’ll lead on delivering our policy and public affairs work, from briefing MPs to developing our policy positions.

Whilst the role is remote based, you will regularly need to attend in-person meetings and events in central London (daytime and evening), as well as undertaking travel across the UK. Given the need to attend meetings in Westminster and Whitehall, you will need to live within commuting distance of London.

Key focus areas

• Building relationships with public, private and third sector organisations, including the wider DPA community.
• Working to convene and collaborate with organisations and individuals committed to ending digital poverty.
• Work with colleagues across local, regional and national governments and across political parties to advocate for policies to promote digital inclusion.
• Undertaking research and analysis to understand digital poverty and the impact of policies to address it.
• Managing policy and research projects including the ongoing development of the national delivery plan and supporting ‘proof of concept’ projects.
• Developing commercial and research partnerships with organisations and supporting the development of the industry forum.
• Communicating the DPA vision and perspective through verbal and written communication.
