The successful candidate will have the opportunity to create projects that will have a key focus on championing equality, diversity and inclusion within the Local Conversation and local community. The role will also involve achieving sustainability within our current thriving projects.
Merstham Community Facility Trust is a charity that aims to support, connect, and empower the local community by providing equal access to provisions and opportunities.
One of our main funding streams is the People’s Health Trust, whose funding enables us to employ two staff (including this role) to deliver a Local Conversation in Merstham. Local Conversations is a People’s Health Trust initiative that involves supporting residents to develop a shared vision for their community and take local action on issues that matter to them, ultimately aiming to address the underlying causes of health inequalities in our local community. To these ends, we work closely with a dedicated group of volunteers to design, develop and deliver projects, including a community allotment, mental health support group, IT support, a community fridge, and many others. The identification of needs within the local community and how we can best respond to these is overseen and led by a Steering Group, comprised of residents.
Main Duties
- Galvanising change through enabling community power.
- Developing positive relationships with volunteers.
- Increasing the projects’ impact and building their sustainability.
- Management of People’s Health Trust relationship including attending programme network events and training opportunities, maintaining correspondence and grant reporting.
- The management and supervision of allocated staff members (i.e., Community Engagement Officer), placements and volunteers.
- To ensure that all activities and projects embrace the principles and practice of inclusivity and equality of opportunity.
- To ensure that all requirements relating to licensing, environmental health, health & safety, and other legal requirements relating to the delivery of People’s Health Trust projects are complied with.
- Management of project budgets, ensuring expenditure is controlled in line with the annual budget as approved by the People’s Health Trust and delegated by MCFT’s trustees.
- Liaise with other staff to monitor budgets as appropriate.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the strategic threats and opportunities in the context in which the People’s Health Trust project operates in order toto suggest options to manage risk and capitalise on opportunities.
- Produce six-monthly reports for funders along with monthly reports for the trustees.
- Motivating volunteers to capitalise the impact of our projects.
- Aligning projects to the funder’s priorities utilising the programme’s practice guide.

Our Marketing & Communications Team
Battersea’s Marketing & Communications department is responsible for communicating the breadth of the organisation’s work in an engaging and memorable way. Though our award-winning campaigns, we use our influence to affect change for dogs and cats within and beyond our gates; building Battersea’s reputation on a national and international scale. Our work involves everything from innovative integrated advertising campaigns to rehome our animals, to supporting other departments with their strategic objectives. We also manage Battersea’s online communities, offer brand guidance, deliver innovative digital activity, and manage internal communications, ensuring that staff and volunteers stay informed and engaged. The department’s ultimate goal is to raise awareness of Battersea’s work, so we can be here for more dogs and cats.
Digital team
Within the Marketing & Commercial department sits the Digital team. Responsible for Battersea’s digital output, our goal is to drive innovation and impact online. We manage Battersea’s website, and lead its digital products, campaigns and advertising – all to increase awareness of Battersea’s work and engage people with the need to support our dogs and cats.

We are looking to recruit an experienced, creative, and passionate person who will embed Co-Production across our services. This person will be responsible for the development and delivery of our engagement and co-production work, ensuring equality and diversity in access and representation.
The Co-Production and Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Developing Co-Production, engagement, and involvement work across the organisation.
- Facilitating Co-Production hubs locally across the borough that are accessible to clients and the local community
- Working with staff across all services to provide appropriate interventions to ensure individuals are appropriately supported to the right service and support at the right time.
- Creating new and innovate ways for clients to Get Active and contribute to the development and delivery of our services in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge.
- Conducting one to ones with staff, peer leaders and other stakeholders to connect and collaborate and to identify and develop potential leaders from within our services and the local community.
- Working with the Service Manager to co-ordinate staff and oversee day to day delivery of services, participating as necessary to ensure a high-quality delivery of services.
- Carrying out line management duties for staff and volunteers. This includes monthly supervision, appraisals and probationary reviews in accordance with Mind in Tower Hamlets and Newham’s policies and procedures .
The ideal candidate will have:
- To have attained a minimum Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
- Demonstrable experience of community development within multi-cultural communities
- Demonstrable and substantial experience of working in mental health services
- Working knowledge of the principles of Co-Production, involvement, and peer work within mental health services
- Experience of working with and supporting the development of Peer volunteers
- Experience of managing and setting up events, activities, and training.
- Significant experience of managing staff and volunteers

The role
As Community Engagement Officer, you will help to define and grow a new community of young engineers who will use their social media channels to engage young people with engineering and serve as ambassadors for the This is Engineering campaign. In this newly created role, you will work with the community to create, curate, shape and share This is Engineering content that appeals to teenagers, and involve them in key moments in the This is Engineering campaign calendar.

About our role
We have a commitment to improving care for people with Crohn’s and Colitis and to help us in our goal we are looking for an experienced and effective Interim Health Services Programme Manager on a 12 month contract. You will provide programme management support to several strands of work currently being led by different partners in IBD UK and will support the charity’s work with IBD UK partners and stakeholders.
This role will have particular responsibility for working with external partners and agencies to reach and engage seldom heard groups to ensure that the 2023 IBD UK patient survey against the standards is representative of the whole community of people affected by Crohn’s and Colitis.

You will have experience in supporting the delivery of projects and programmes for health services in a UK wide context. Your knowledge and use of project management methodology, and evidence of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with external stakeholders is a must. You will be able to:

Lead on small projects that improve membership onboarding, experience and renewal
