About the Role

The Legal Officer will be an integral part of the UK Litigation team and will work closely with external legal teams to advance our cases and ensure coordination of legal actions in line with Reprieve’s strategic goals. They will be responsible for administration and maintenance of casefiles and key case management documents and assume certain day-to-day file management responsibilities. They will feed into case strategy discussions and will support the team by conducting and overseeing legal and factual research, drafting documents for litigation and advocacy purposes, and producing and maintaining core internal documents and records. The Legal Officer will also help advance investigations on selected cases, coordinating record collection, feeding into investigation plans and supporting other investigative work.

This will involve monitoring for relevant opportunities to shape international law and working on international legal submissions, particularly before international human rights complaints mechanisms and international tribunals.

Length and Salary

This is a full-time role, on a one-year fixed term contract, with the possibility to extend, subject to funding. The annual salary is £42,193 per annum, less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance. 

This role is based in Reprieve’s London office. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work two days per week from the London office and the rest of the week from home. Applicants must have the current right to work in the UK, which will be checked prior to interview.

Your presence is important during core office hours, whether remotely or in the office. We are looking for a passionate and empathetic individual who has the skills, knowledge and experience in coordinating casework and undertaking reporting of data to stakeholders. The IPO will undertake and be responsible for a range of administrative functions to advance and simply casework flow under the Sub-Regional Immigration Advice Service (SIAS) project. The IPO must have the ability to communicate effectively with referring agencies and stakeholders on a regular basis. The IPO will organise and present data to funders and others on behalf of NKLC. The IPO would have a good general understanding of Legal Aid casework, and the regulatory obligations set by the SRA and IAA.

The IPO will work closely with the Immigration Supervising Solicitor (ISS), Director and general admin team to progress and maintain the SIAS project. The IPO will manage referrals, liaise with the immigration team, and undertake a variety of administrative functions to maintain and resolve associated issues within the immigration department. Where appropriate, the IPO will arrange appointments, attend triage sessions off-site and liaise with referring agencies to ensure that caseworkers can advance casework as efficiently as possible.

This role will play a pivotal role in driving implementation of The Association's new strategy and shaping and driving change across all functions. As PMO Lead, you'll work closely with the Head of Strategy & Programme Management to embed consistent and effective practices across a central portfolio of projects and programmes. Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and implementation of consistent project and programme management tools and methods across the organisation
• Support, upskill and coach Sponsors, Business Change Managers and Project Managers to fulfil their roles effectively

• Support and challenge Project Managers, Sponsors & Business Owners across the Association to ensure the benefits of projects/programmes are defined, measured and learning points shared.

About You:

• In-depth understanding of the core elements of a successful PMO
• Recognised qualification in project or programme management, ideally with a PMO-specific certification
• Demonstrable experience of setting up and running a PMO in a similar organisational context
• Experience managing projects or programmes, with sound knowledge of relevant methodologies
• Skilled in supporting others to use consistent project and programme approaches
• Proficient in project management software such as MS Project
• Confident working across teams and functions to embed tools and approaches
• Able to clearly communicate, influence and support decision making at senior levels

The overall aim will be to support capacity and capability of the housing and homelessness sector to achieve better outcomes. You will need to keep your knowledge up to date and contribute the insights you gain from training delivery and observing our front-line services to develop existing and new courses, ensuring excellent quality and positive feedback. Also, you will participate in consultancy and mystery shopping as needed.

About you

To succeed, you will need experience of delivering and developing training courses which are engaging and interactive, along with a strong understanding of housing and homelessness law. You will also have a sound knowledge of IT tools such as webinar and e-learning platform and Microsoft applications.  The role will involve travel to deliver training as needed.

Job Description

Spires was established as a response to homelessness in the late 1980s. Initially providing a hot meal, clothing, and advice to those who came for help, Spires has developed into an organization that provides a range of services, including day centre style drop ins for homeless people, a Women’s drop in, a Refugee drop in and outreach targeted at supporting Women who are sex working. 

Our core mission is to support homeless people into housing and to assist those who have been homeless in maintaining their accommodation, reducing the risks they face, and increasing their choices. We assess need, create support plans, and provide ongoing key work to empower people to improve their circumstances.

Purpose of Role:

• Support the effective delivery of Spires services across the range of activities provided, 
• Provide casework, support planning, and key working sessions for Spires’ clients.

Position in Organisation:

Part of the Spires Support Team, reporting to the Head of Clients Services. This is a new position and will work across all of Spires’ services. 

Working Contacts:
