As our Senior Heart Stories Officer, you’ll play a key role in gathering, shaping and safeguarding the reallife stories that sit at the heart of BHF’s mission. You’ll lead on complex briefs, support colleagues across the organisation and ensure every story is handled with care, accuracy and respect. This is a chance to use your craft to make a genuine difference, helping connect millions of people to the cause and keeping families together for longer. 

You’ll be managing a busy caseload, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality story products, whilst tailoring them for a range of platforms. You will also be maintaining the Heart Stories Management system, triaging story requests, support the Heart Story Operations Manager and collaborate across a wide range of BHF teams and stakeholders. 

​About you 

To succeed as our Senior Stories Officer. you will bring a combination of the following: 

• Experience as a journalist or in a communications role either in house or agency, with journalistic ability to ask the right questions and uncover the ‘real’ story.
• ​Strong understanding of what makes a compelling human-interest story and how to shape it for different audiences and platforms.
• Proven interviewing skills, with the ability to speak sensitively with people sharing difficult or personal experiences.
• Experience of identifying, writing and editing compelling stories. 
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with confidence working with colleagues and case studies at all levels.
• Highly organised, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced service environment.
• Experience of copywriting for varied audiences whilst demonstrating sound judgement on tone, messaging, confidentiality, safeguarding and clinical accuracy.
• Emotional resilience and empathy when working with sensitive or challenging narratives.
• Understanding of safeguarding, informed consent, confidentiality and GDPR.

Working arrangements

Interviews

The Brent Centre for Young People 

The Brent Centre for Young People (BCYP) is the leading mental health charity for young people in Northwest London, helping over 800 young people a year with a wide range of issues. We offer specialised treatment in the areas of depression, suicide prevention, self-harm, eating disorders, exam anxiety and more. Our approach is rooted in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. We aim to reach significantly more young people in the years ahead, drawing on our heritage that combines specialist treatment in-house and outreach into communities. The Brent Centre is also an important Research Centre on Adolescent Breakdown and Psychotherapy. 

The Role

As HR Officer, you will play a role in bringing structure, consistency and clarity to Brent Centre’s HR processes. You will deliver practical, people-focused support across the employee lifecycle, from recruitment, onboarding to contract changes, developing and updating organisational policies, helping to strengthen and develop how HR supports colleagues across the organisation.

Working closely with the Administration and Finance Manager, you will act as the first point of contact for day-to-day HR queries, ensuring they are handled promptly, accurately and in line with Brent Centre’s values. You will support colleagues and managers to use HR systems effectively, interpret and apply policies correctly, and follow clear, consistent processes. You will maintain accurate information across our HR systems (Bright HR and SharePoint HR Intranet) and ensure HR data is complete, compliant and up to date.

Purpose of the role:

The HR, People and Culture Manager is a recently created role at Back Up in response to our continuous growth and services expansion.

People are central to Back Up’s work. The ideal candidate will be able to both take a lead in defining our future approach to our human resources and fostering a positive workplace culture whilst also providing hands on delivery, and ensuring compliance with UK employment laws. They will help us ensure we have the right people, in the right place at the right time and will support our team members to realise their full potential.

They will oversee the operational management of HR activities, providing tools which empower our organisations leaders and ensure best practice is followed throughout the Charity, while enhancing the overall employee experience.

The role requires strong operational HR knowledge, with a clear understanding of end-to-end HR processes and risk management, ensuring robust foundations are in place as the function continues to develop strategically.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruitment and Staffing:

· Oversee best practice in inclusive recruitment, including impactful and engaging job

postings, screening, interviewing, reasonable adjustments and onboarding of new staff and

Trustees.

· Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and develop effective

recruitment strategies in order to recruit high performing staff which share Back Up’s values.

· Ensure our role descriptions are consistent and in line with the charities current and future

requirements.

· Manage the onboarding for new team members ensuring it is smooth and consistent.

· Ensure team members have the best possible start at Back Up including orientation and

feeling of belonging at the Charity.

· Oversee delivery of exit interviews and analyse feedback to improve retention strategies.

· Prepare contracts and ensure all required paperwork and legal checks are completed accurately and efficiently.

· Deliver comprehensive HR inductions for new staff, ensuring access to policies,

procedures, and essential information from day one.

Employee Relations and Culture:

· Foster a positive and inclusive workplace environment where employees feel valued and

engaged.

· Act as a first point of contact for employee concerns and conflicts, facilitating resolution

and providing support.

· Work with the charity staff Wellbeing Group and Diversity and Inclusion Group to promote

employee well-being initiatives, activities which support an inclusive workplace and

engagement activities to enhance morale.

· Working with the SMT develop a programme of internal communications relating to people management, organisational culture and behaviours

Payroll and Benefits:

· Manage monthly payroll, pension contributions, and employee benefits administration, ensuring records are accurate and staff inquiries are addressed promptly.

· Prepare letters and update the HR system to reflect any changes in employee contracts.

Learning and Development:

· Support the SMT to identify training needs and implement professional development programmes for staff and trustees which are tailored to individual and Charity goals.

· Work closely with the People Development volunteer supporting team member coaching, awareness and self-development.

· Review and coordinate the induction programme and ongoing training for existing staff to ensure continuous learning and development.

· Lead on our e-learning programme, ensuring training not only meets regulatory requirements but inspires and helps team members grow and develop. Ongoing management of the platform.

Performance Management:

· Oversee performance appraisal process in line with Charity’s values and behaviours.

· Provide support and guidance to managers on performance-related issues.

· Line Management of HR administrator providing clear direction, development support and quality assurance across HR administration

Best Practice, Policy Development and Compliance:

· Review and update our staff handbook and HR policies and procedures using Back Up’s tone of voice and ensuring compliance with UK employment law and best practice.

· Ensure all staff are aware of and understand HR policies and procedures through effective communication and training.

· Conduct salary and benefits benchmarks and identify other initiatives which can enhance our employee value proposition and to ensure that the Charity remain competitive and a place where people want to work.

· Stay informed about changes in employment legislation and recommend necessary adjustments to policies.

· Support us to be leaders in inclusive workplace practices delivery of the Disability Confident scheme.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Collaborate with the SMT to align People and Culture operational practice with Charity goals.

· Oversee annual staff survey.

· Manage HR-related budgets, including training and development costs.

· Provide ad-hoc reports and analysis on HR metrics to inform decision-making.

· Support the ethical and responsible use of AI and other technologies across the charity to support our ability to deliver for people with spinal cord injury.

Partnerships are central to the BHF’s strategy to help fund lifesaving research, and this is a pivotal moment to join our innovative Corporate Partnerships team. 

As our Senior New Business Manager, you will help deliver our ambitious growth strategy by securing high value, six and seven figure, new partnerships across sectors with strong long-term potential. 
 
You will take ownership of a number of priority sectors and build a strong pipeline of opportunities. This includes strategic, commercial, Charity of the Year and employee fundraising partnerships. You will lead the full new business cycle, from researching prospects and shaping compelling propositions to presenting to senior decision makers and negotiating agreements. 

You’ll work closely with colleagues in across the BHF, including Account Management, Commercial, Marketing and Health Partnership Programmes to ensure opportunities are aligned and to provide a seamless handover once new partners come on board. You will also line manage one team member and play a supportive role across the wider New Business function.

The role leads key governance processes—including RoPA maintenance, soft opt‑in compliance, and data‑retention oversight—and works closely with Data Engineering and Data Analysis leads to align governance with wider data architecture and operational practice. As the organisation’s primary governance specialist during the EML cover period, the postholder provides expert guidance, documentation, and oversight to ensure all supporter‑data processing is compliant, well‑controlled, and clearly understood across teams.

The role requires strong experience working with complex supporter‑data environments, including expertise in data governance frameworks, and documentation of processing activities such as RoPA. About the role

We are excited to be recruiting a Programme Manager to join The Scholars Programme team. This role will be central in ensuring high quality programme management and oversee effective stakeholder stewardship across multiple geographical areas.

Programme Managers work closely with each other, reporting to the Head of Programme Management, to ensure excellent programme delivery across the UK. Each Programme Manager will manage a team of Programme Officers, who each manage a cluster of school-PhD tutor relationships. Programme Managers also lead collaborative work with other teams, providing strategic insight and oversight of joint processes to ensure information is disseminated and key actions are taken by the Programme Management team.

Hammersmith and Fulham MHCA is a drop‑in mental health crisis support service for anyone in Ealing aged 18 and over who is experiencing a mental health crisis or emotional distress. The service provides a safe, calm, and welcoming space where individuals can receive immediate support without needing to attend A&E. Our aim is to reduce distress, help people feel heard, and support them to regain stability in the moment.

Visitors can access one‑to‑one emotional support, help creating short‑ and long‑term safety plans, guidance and signposting to other relevant services, and access to refreshments. The service may also offer group activities, such as peer support sessions, creative groups, or wellbeing‑focused activities, which create opportunities for connection, expression, and recovery in a supportive environment.

You'll need to be able to demonstrate the core skills this role requires as well as match our values and mission. You don't have to tick all the boxes right away; the important thing is that you're willing to learn. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of issues affecting individuals with a wide range of mental health conditions and will be able to communicate and provide support with dignity and respect. They will be an effective team player who can also work independently, take initiative, and support the induction of new staff and volunteers. The role requires the ability to work confidently with statutory services, alongside excellent listening skills and strong verbal and written communication abilities. Candidates should demonstrate effective partnership‑building skills with both statutory and voluntary/community sector organisations, as well as experience in risk assessment, case management, and working under pressure in a dynamic environment. Strong organisational, prioritisation, and time‑management skills are essential, alongside good IT proficiency—including MS Word, Outlook, and internet use—and solid literacy and numeracy skills. A good understanding of recovery tools, local mental health and wellbeing services, and safeguarding principles is also required, with the ability to address safeguarding concerns appropriately.

Solo Homes combines independent living with intensive personalised support to clients. By adopting a flexible, creative and strengths based approach, the Solo Homes initiative supports individuals to manage their tenancies in the community and improve their quality of life. Solo Homes is The Connection’s version of Housing First.

The Solo Homes, Women’s Service Pilot is an exciting and innovative extension to our specialist 24-hour supported housing service in Clapham for women from across South London who have experienced homelessness and multiple disadvantage. The successful candidate will work with 6 of the women currently living in this service to move in to their own social tenancies.

Salary: £38,753 - £43,471 (scale points 23 – 28)
