Head of Financial Planning & Analysis

Contract: Permanent, Full time (salary up to £87,500 (incl London allowance))

Working pattern: 2-3days onsite

MLC are partnering with a reputable, large UK university to recruit a Head of Financial Planning & Analysis to play a critical role within its senior finance leadership team.

Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, this role will lead the organisation’s FP&A function, providing high-quality financial insight, strategic analysis, and decision support at executive, senior management, and governance levels. The postholder will be responsible for shaping financial strategy, driving performance, and embedding robust planning and analytical capability across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the FP&A function to deliver high-quality budgeting, forecasting, long-term planning, and capital investment analysis
• Provide strategic financial insight and decision support to executive leadership and governance forums
• Develop and oversee management reporting, performance analysis, and key financial and non-financial KPIs
• Support the development of organisational financial strategy, funding plans, and investment priorities
• Oversee business and investment case development, including financial appraisal and scenario modelling
• Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, embedding a business-partnering approach across the organisation
• Lead, develop, and manage a high-performing FP&A team
• Drive the evolution of FP&A systems, tools, and digital decision-support capabilities

Key skillset:

• Degree-educated with a recognised CCAB qualification
• Significant senior-level FP&A experience within a complex organisation, with a strong background in the public sector and exposure to a university setting considered highly beneficial
• Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and performance analysis
• Proven experience of influencing senior stakeholders and supporting strategic decision-making
• Commercially minded with excellent communication and leadership skills
• Experience in large, regulated or multi-stakeholder environments highly advantageous

• Primary Responsibility: Maintain accurate financial ledgers and provide comprehensive financial reporting.

We are a small but growing team of lawyers, communications experts, and campaigners. Our work is global, and we work in partnership with lawyers, civil society, unions, and people impacted by Big Tech.

The role

As Head of Operations, you will lead all operational functions of Foxglove. You will ensure that our finance, HR, legal compliance, fundraising, systems and internal processes enable the organisation to carry out its mission effectively. You’ll work across Foxglove and closely with leadership, as well as with external partners to build a resilient and well-governed organisation, able to manage growth and complexity while staying mission driven. This role manages one member of staff and multiple consultants.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Financial Management & Accounting

1.Oversee financial operations: budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, expenditure controls, financial reporting, payroll.

2.Ensure compliance with accounting standards, audit requirements and donor / funder financial reporting obligations.

3.Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, banks, and financial service providers.

4.Ensure appropriate and best practice financial policies and controls are in place. 

5.Ensure financial risk is identified and managed appropriately.

Fundraising & Development

1.Contribute to the organisation’s fundraising strategy in collaboration with the Co-Executive Directors and Head of Strategy.

2.Ensure systems are in place to track and manage grants, philanthropic donations, and other income streams.

3.Support the preparation of funding proposals and reports and ensure accurate and timely reporting to funders.

4.Support relationship management with key donors, foundations and partners.

Operational Systems & Processes

1.Develop and maintain efficient operational processes and systems (e.g. finance, HR, IT, data protection, office management).

2.Ensure proper policies and procedures are in place for procurement, vendor management, travel & expenses, and record-keeping.

3.Oversee the infrastructure that supports remote / hybrid working, ensuring tools and systems support collaboration, security, and productivity.

Compliance, Risk & Governance

1.Lead on organisational compliance: legal, regulatory, health & safety, data protection / GDPR, employment law.

2.Ensure the organisation’s policies and procedures are best practice, legally compliant and up to date.

3.Establish and monitor risk management frameworks and our risk register.

4.Support governance structures (internal reporting, director meetings etc.), ensuring decisions are well informed and documented.

Human Resources & People Operations

1.Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and staff development.

·Minimum of 5-7 years of senior operations / finance / business operations experience, including line management

For a large, global NGO, we are recruiting a Global Financial Controller. Reporting to the Global CFO, the Global FInancial Controller will join during a period of transformation to lead the development and delivery of financial systems, processes and controls supporting global operations, drive compliance, and enable informed decision-making. This is a key leadership role which will have strategic oversight of global transactions, and audits, procurement, finance systems and compliance. The Global Financial Controller will shape and implement the global financial framework, and will maintain first-class governance, transparency, and accountability.

Main Duties:

• Design and lead improvements for the generation of timely and accurate year-end statutory financial statements
• Influence and oversee implementation of external and internal audit processes, and lead the global responses to audit requests
• Support the Global CFO with preparation of Board and Trustee reports
• Design and manage financial systems for the management of global transactions, and timesheet management systems
• Design and manage accounting systems to consolidate accounts for the Charity Group
• Oversee and implement systems and processes to ensure compliance with UK VAT, PAYE and Gift Aid

As Finance Manager, you’ll lead the day-to-day finance operations at B Lab UK, ensuring high-quality financial reporting, strong controls and effective oversight of transactional finance. The role: 
Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, the Finance Officer will ensure the provision of consistent, robust financial support to the charity and will be responsible for processing financial records in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring compliance with regulations, implementing efficient financial processes whilst working collaboratively across the team.
 
In addition, the Finance Officer will be responsible for monitoring and processing income and expenditure, managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, overseeing cashflow forecasting, completing the monthly reconciliations and preparation of financial reports, journals and helping with the VAT preparatory work. The post holder will also be required to support the annual budgeting process, year-end audit and preparation of statutory accounts for approval by the Trustee.
 
The person:
The charity is looking for someone with previous finance experience preferrable but not limited to the charity sector, and strong collaborative and relational skills to work with different colleagues across the organisation. You will be a person who can take initiative, solve problems and get things done timely, be confident working with different internal stakeholders and external professional advisors and capable of considering different requirements and priorities in a knowledgeable way.
 
This person will have excellent attention to detail and will be highly organised and a strong communicator across a wide range of audiences. Educated to Degree level – fully or part-qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA or seeking to do a qualification, this person will have excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication and will be up to date on all MS Office packages. Preferable with an experience working on SAGE, or any similar financial software.

The Role

This is far more than a technical finance role. You will support all aspects of the charity’s work and development through the provision of strong financial assistance - ensuring accurate financial reporting, sales and other invoicing, bookkeeping, grant management and payroll management.

You will also take day-to-day responsibility for organisational administration.

Summary

This is a unique opportunity to join one of the oldest charities in the UK in a flexible, part time general managerial capacity, supporting the Trustees. The appointment of this senior role arises by the retirement of the current incumbent, and the role offers a competitive rate which will depend on qualifications and experience.

Background

The King Henry VIII Endowed Trust, founded in 1545, holds a portfolio of c. £80m in Equities, Bonds, Land and Commercial Property, part of the Total Return from which (£2.5m in 2025) is distributed in Warwick in accordance with its Charity Commission Scheme, as follows:

· 50% Anglican churches in Warwick and Budbrooke

· 30% Warwick Schools Foundation - means tested bursaries and community activities

· 20% as grants for the “benefit of the inhabitants of Warwick”

The Trust has up to 12 trustees (4 nominated, 8 co-opted), who meet quarterly. At present, there is a Clerk & Receiver (role being renamed to COO), a deputy Clerk (who deals mainly with grants and organising meetings) and an accountant – all part-time and self-employed.

The current Clerk is retiring and is a Chartered Accountant who has held the role for 16 years, during which time the Trust has gone through a period of change. The Trust is now in a stable stage, where the priorities are managing our financial, land and property assets in order to maintain our distribution. The role is being renamed to Chief Operating Officer to better reflect the role, and would ideally remain a self-employed role.

The typical work load is likely to require about 10-15 hours per week, which fluctuates and is focused around the quarterly meeting and annual accounts. There is potential for 2 areas of land to be included in the local plan which will create additional opportunities.

Role specifics

Financial Investments

· Liaise with the investment managers (Currently: CCLA, Navera, Savills, Royal London)

· Manage any short-term deposits with HSBC

Property

· Liaise with property advisers (Margetts and Cushman & Wakefield) to manage the Trust’s property (currently an office block, a pub, a shooting range and 3 blocks of farm land)

· Oversee St Mary’s Rectory. This is owned by the Trust and is provided free of charge to the incumbent at St Mary’s, through an agreement with the Coventry Diocese.

· Ensure any property sales or leases operate within charity law.

· Where land is in the Local Plan, work with advisers and/or promoters to obtain the best commercial deal.

Charity Commission

· Manage any changes required to the Trust’s Charity Commission Schemes and Orders.

· Ensure that the Trust operates within the limitations of these Schemes and Orders.

· Annual Returns

· Manage information on Charity Commission website

Beneficiaries

· Quarterly distributions – calculation and payment

· Liaise with beneficiaries as necessary

· Prepare reports for Trustees as required (e.g. Annual Grants Report, which will include analysis of other Warwick endowed charities and Annual review of Church accounts)

General

· Deal with all correspondence

· Keep Trustees up to date

· Liaise with professional advisers

· Manage the overall office activity

· Organise meetings – including reports for meeting and minutes

Skill set & Experience

The role requires someone with experience of dealing with financial, legal and property issues. Coupled with good administration skills, the role requires someone who:

· Is self-reliant and used to working under their own management

· Is competent in Microsoft Office

· Has good written communication skills

· Has good interpersonal skills, to work with Trustees, other staff, advisers and beneficiaries.

Experience in the following would be beneficial, but a candidate who is keen to learn would quickly pick these up:

· Charities, including dealing with the Charity Commission

· Knowledge of Warwick and its historical heritage

The successful candidate is likely to have a professional qualification in accounting, property or the law and is comfortable working with professional advisers across all these disciplines. 

The Trust’s office is currently based on the top floor of Margetts (the Trust’s agricultural advisers), where all its records are kept. Some home working would be practical.

The role has some flexibility in hours, but there will be certain times, such as Trustee meetings that are fixed. A candidate who is able to be available for some time each day would be beneficial, as often matters need to be progressed without too much delay.

The International Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing complex, high-risk financial operations related to our partner's international grantmaking and emergency relief support. This role combines financial leadership with flexibility and responsiveness to needs in volatile contexts, particularly for grassroots movements and activist groups globally - managing overseas financial transactions, handling multi-currency payments, managing exchange rate risks.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Finance Oversight

- Lead all financial processes for international grants: budgeting, transfers, reconciliations, reporting.
- Manage multi-currency payments into high-risk regions; ensure compliance, mitigate fraud/diversion risk.
- Strengthen internal controls and financial systems for expanding global operations.
- Be agile to respond quickly to humanitarian needs.

Risk & Compliance

- Ensure due diligence (KYC, AML) and enhanced vetting particularly for overseas partners and informal/unincorporated networks.

Client & Stakeholder Management

- Act as finance lead for philanthropic clients working in relief and grassroots activism.

- Foster relationships with grassroots partners; ensure transparent, accessible reporting.
- Apply trauma-informed approaches in working with clients in conflict or activist settings.

Humanitarian & Global Finance Expertise

- Use knowledge of international finance especially in difficult contexts (e.g. unincorporated groups, sanctions, restricted jurisdictions) to design processes that satisfy both donors and grassroots partners.
- Monitor emerging risks globally and help shape responses.

Essential Experience & Knowledge

• Significant experience in finance, grantmaking or compliance in international/ humanitarian/ philanthropic settings.
• Experience in managing overseas financial transactions, handling multi-currency payments, managing exchange rate risks etc.
• Experience dealing with high-risk jurisdictions and partners, including unincorporated or grassroots networks.
• Familiarity with due diligence, risk frameworks, KYC/AML, UK charity and banking regulations.

Desirable

• Arabic (spoken/written) skills preferred
• Past work in NGOs, fiscal hosts, or international grant making.

The Role

Freeways is looking to recruit a Head of Finance who will   manage a small finance team.

This role is responsible for preparing the monthly management accounts and associated report for both charities: providing high quality financial insight, analysis and advice to support informed decision making.

The Head of Finance is also responsible for ensuring the efficiency, accuracy and compliance of the day-to-day financial activities (including accounts payable, accounts receivable and cashbooks) for both Freeways and Freeways Trust.
