The Role
We are seeking a creative, organised and audience-focused Social Media Officer to help myaware develop a more coordinated, consistent and effective social media presence.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in how myaware reaches, supports and engages people affected by myasthenia, as well as families, carers, supporters, fundraisers, healthcare professionals and the wider public. The role will help move myaware’s social media activity from a reactive, team-by-team approach to a more planned and strategic function that supports awareness, fundraising, professional services, membership growth, community engagement and brand consistency.
Working closely with the IT and Digital Communications Manager, Fundraising, Professional Services and colleagues across the organisation, you will help plan, create, schedule and evaluate social media content across myaware’s channels. You will support the development of a social media content calendar, create clear and engaging copy, produce accessible and brand-aligned graphics, and help teams turn their knowledge, updates and campaign activity into content that works for myaware’s audiences.
You will also support the development of reusable templates, clearer content processes, social media reporting, and appropriate use of tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud and AI-assisted content creation. The role will involve helping myaware make stronger use of formats such as posts, carousels, Stories, Reels, short-form video, polls and direct-message-led campaign activity, while ensuring content remains accurate, sensitive, accessible and appropriate for a health charity.
The Social Media Officer will be predominantly home based within the UK, with occasional travel required. The role will work collaboratively across myaware to support awareness activity, fundraising campaigns, events, community engagement, professional services, membership activity and wider digital communications.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone with experience creating social media content for an organisation, charity, campaign, community group or similar setting. You will be confident writing clear and engaging copy for different audiences, using social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, YouTube or similar, and creating or adapting simple graphics using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud or equivalent.
You will understand how social media can support awareness, fundraising, services, membership and community engagement, and you will be able to plan and organise content across multiple priorities. You will have a good eye for clarity, accessibility, tone and brand consistency, and be comfortable working with colleagues across different teams to turn ideas into effective social media content.
We are particularly interested in someone who is creative but practical, organised and reliable, warm in their communication style, and sensitive when working with health-related or personal content. You do not need to know everything about myasthenia before applying, but you should be willing to learn about the condition and the needs of people affected by it.
Experience in a charity, health, disability, community or membership organisation would be useful, as would experience supporting fundraising or event promotion through social media, creating Stories, Reels or carousel content, using analytics to improve content planning, or supporting campaigns and awareness activity.
Most importantly, you will share myaware’s values and be committed to helping us reach, support and connect more people affected by myasthenia.
If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

Who we are
Chefs in Schools is a young, ambitious charity that’s rapidly growing. Our mission is to improve kids' health, through improving school food & food education.
We focus our efforts in areas of high socio-economic deprivation, where more than a third of children are entitled to free school meals, and diet-related disease is driving further inequality.
We support and train school kitchen teams to serve the best, freshest and tastiest food possible, alongside meaningful food education. We share learning and resources, aiming to inspire and enable others to follow our lead.
We’re backed by some of the biggest names in food and have ambitious targets to ensure every child has access to incredible school food and food education, setting them up for life with the skills and knowledge to feed themselves well.
About you and the role
As our Digital Manager, you will be the strategic anchor, quality guardian, and operational driving force behind our online presence. You will fully own the performance of our two primary websites: the main Chefs in Schools (CIS) platform and the complex, public-facing School Food Project (SFP) national resource and coalition hub. You will be directly accountable for driving traffic, mastering SEO, maintaining exceptional content quality, and ensuring a seamless, highly secure user experience against clear, measurable targets.
This is a leadership role that bridges technical execution and creative strategy. You will act as the crucial, confident link between our external technical agencies (who build and maintain the infrastructure of the sites) and our internal content creators and programme teams. Crucially, you will be an empowering manager, leading a dedicated digital sub-team of 1-2 direct reports, supporting them to manage day-to-day content workflows, e-learning administration, and community moderation.
We are looking for someone solutions-focused, collaborative, and deeply analytical who takes pride in helping a high-profile, mission-driven organization run at its absolute best.
Key responsibilities:
1. Website Ownership & Performance Management
Own the overarching strategy and performance of our two flagship websites (CIS and SFP), optimizing UX and UI for user journeys, design, and maximum accessibility standards across both sites.
Own and maintain a forward-looking, prioritized digital platform roadmap, striking a strategic balance between long-term feature development and agile, day-to-day reactive requests
Ensure both platforms—particularly the highly visible, national School Food Project website—maintain the highest standards of data security, uptime, quality assurance, and accessibility, proactively managing risks associated with public scrutiny.
Take end-to-end ownership of web analytics and data integrity—from configuring custom event tracking to reporting on performance—utilizing Google Analytics 4 (GA4) for quantitative metrics and Microsoft Clarity for behavioral insights.
Set, monitor, and report against clear performance targets spanning web traffic, user engagement, resource downloads, and search rankings.
Lead content and platform feature reviews through a risk mitigation lens—ensuring strict compliance with safeguarding, privacy, and coalition guidelines—while running targeted A/B tests to optimize user experience.
Lead on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategy to maximize organic reach and connect school leaders, chefs, and partners to our resources.
Establish and manage digital incident response protocols, defining clear workflows for first responders, triage steps, and escalation pathways in the event of site outages, technical bugs, or security breaches.
2. Agency & Supplier Management
Act as the primary, confident technical interface with our external web development agencies and tech suppliers, holding them accountable to high-quality delivery.
Translate internal program, comms, and membership goals into clear technical design briefs, managing timelines and tracking project budgets.
Coordinate rigorous testing of new features, bug logging, and site maintenance to guarantee absolute platform stability before public deployments.
3. Team Leadership & Collaboration
Line manage, mentor, and support 1-2 direct reports (including roles focused on systems, community moderation, and resource uploads).
Work closely with the Communications team, External Relations team and Programme Leads to align digital development with broader organization campaigns and resource rollouts.
Oversee the content calendar and governance for both sites, ensuring all published assets strictly adhere to brand tone of voice and quality standards, working closely with the senior social media officer, engagement team to ensure cross org planning .
4. Data, CRM & Systems Integration
Oversee the data integrity and smooth technical flow between our website frontends, e-learning platform (LMS), and internal CRM systems.
Ensure all digital systems, data tracking, user permissions, and marketing platforms comply fully with GDPR and organizational data protection policies.
Construct and present scannable dashboards and reports (using Google Analytics and CRM data) for the Senior Leadership Team and stakeholders to demonstrate impact.
Essential Skills and Experience
Digital Product & Platform Leadership: Proven experience managing digital products, websites, or online platforms—ideally at a Manager level within a charity, agency, or fast-paced setting.
Complex Systems Integration: Strong confidence managing (or partnering with a technical agency to manage) integrated digital environments where the CMS, CRM, and LMS operate as a unified platform. You must be comfortable understanding and troubleshooting multi-layered user access permissions (e.g., tailored journeys for different school types and member tiers).
Foundational literacy in HTML and CSS to troubleshoot layout issues, understand site structure, and effectively translate technical requirements to developers.
Agency & Project Management: Confident experience collaborating with, briefing, and managing external technical partners, developers, or freelance technical staff to deliver complex features on time and on budget.
People Management: Demonstrable experience managing, mentoring, and developing direct reports, fostering a supportive and high-performing team environment.
Data Fluency & Quality Control: Ability to analyze, clean, and visualize data (using Google Analytics, CRM reporting, or spreadsheets) to monitor site performance, ensure data integrity across system integrations, and drive user experience improvements.
Communication & Collaboration: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; able to translate complex "technical speak" for non-expert internal staff, write brand-aligned content, and build strong cross-team relationships.
Mission Alignment: A deep personal commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, alongside a genuine interest in our mission to transform child health through school food.
Desirable Skills and Experience
Familiarity with online community/forum moderation and user engagement strategies.
Prior experience working within the wider charity sector.

By supporting our amazing volunteer facilitators and our highly valued partnership organisations, you’ll help drive growth of SMART Recovery programmes and meetings across 2 distinct geographical areas making our 4-Point Programmes even more accessible to those wanting to manage any type of addictive behaviour.
North East: The counties of Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham.
Yorkshire & The Humbers: The counties of North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire.
To thrive in this role, you'll need hands-on experience of facilitating groups or meetings and an understanding of what great facilitation looks like. Whilst already being a qualified SMART Recovery Facilitator and/or having engaged with our meetings as a previous participant is a distinct advantage, we also accept applications from individuals with a general awareness of addiction recovery or our 4-Point Programme. Importantly, you’ll be someone who brings people together, listens deeply, and creates a safe, empowering space for growth and recovery.
Your presentation skills should engage, inspire, and inform with clarity and warmth, whether you’re speaking with a room full of volunteers, delivering training via Zoom, or presenting to our partnership organisations. You’ll be required to help grow our footprint, increase and diversify our partnerships and encourage the uptake of our programme. You will represent UKSR at community events, recovery walks and conferences and get involved in defined projects.
We welcome applications from individuals with lived experience of addiction, whether that’s your own recovery journey or being close to someone else’s. It’s essential for you to bring empathy, authenticity, and a deep respect for others’ experiences to all of your interactions. You’ll need to be self-motivated and highly organised, and able to manage your time, workload, and travel with autonomy. You’ll be someone who uplifts, encourages, and empowers, helping others see what’s possible.
You should have experience in working with volunteers, understanding how to support and develop their skills. Previous delivery of training is essential, and if that experience has been gained in a peer-support or recovery setting, all the better. This role requires emotional intelligence; you’ll be working with people who have faced adversity, and your ability to support them within clear, professional boundaries is critical. Giving and receiving feedback, gathering data and other evidence to inform service development, and exercising reflective practice are all essential attributes.
You’ll also contribute to key projects that move SMART Recovery forward, adding your voice and insight to help shape what comes next. The role therefore requires project mangement skills as you will work on specific projects that develop our publications, training, communications and marketing. If you have a special interest and expertise in certain areas of our business such as social media and campaigns, training, volunteer management or copywriting we can develop this skill and interest as an enhancement to your role. Developing areas of expertise within our Co-ordinator team is something we are keen to do.
As this is a home-based role, you’ll need to be comfortable forming meaningful relationships online, building trust and connection via email, phone, and video calls. We’ll provide the equipment you need, but you’ll bring the energy and adaptability to make remote working feel personal and productive. Regular travel across the defined regions is a vital part of the role, visiting SMART Recovery meetings in the community and within partner organisations, and offering continual support to facilitators, are all essential in helping our network continue to grow with the quality we strive for.
It is essential that you live in the North East area.
