Business Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for a Business Manager to join the Team, in this key leadership role at the heart of the organisation.

About the Role

The team care deeply about providing good, safe, specialist services to the community and to clients by providing inclusive, equitable support to all survivors of sexual violence in Sheffield.

You’ll work closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to keep things running day to day and to strengthen the infrastructure that make this life-changing work possible. You’ll lead across areas like finance, HR, governance, quality, facilities/IT, risk and data protection, and provide empowering and supportive line management to the Business Team and Counselling Team.

You’ll also deputise for the CEO on occasion, helping to provide steady leadership and continuity across the organisation.

About the role

The British Museum is seeking a Technical, Tax and VAT Accountant to join the Finance department, who will prepare returns for our key stakeholders (such as HMRC) and provide technical guidance on issues such as VAT, PAYE, gift aid and foreign tax to the finance team and other departments. The post holder will also manage the investments and act as systems administrator for the Museum's accounting system.

About you

We're looking for a qualified accountant with strong technical expertise in VAT, tax and financial regulation. You'll be confident interpreting legislation, analysing risk, and explaining complex requirements clearly to non-specialists. You combine meticulous attention to detail with the ability to juggle competing deadlines, stay up to date with changing regulations, and support colleagues across Finance, People & Culture and other departments. Key areas of responsibility

• Review procedures and undertake analysis to ensure that the Museum and all group entities are compliant with HMRC guidance and legislation.

 About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Fundraiser to provide maternity cover and ensure the smooth delivery of our Individual Giving programme. In this key role, you’ll help maintain stable income and deliver essential activity across our Individual Giving strategy.

You’ll manage a broad portfolio including Individual Donations, Regular Giving, Mid‑Level Gifts and Appeals, ensuring strong stewardship and supporter engagement to maximise retention and long‑term value.

A major part of the role involves leading on appeals and campaigns - using supporter data and insight to shape activity, track performance, and apply learning to enhance supporter experience and improve ROI. This is a hands-on role suited to someone confident in campaign management, data analysis, and building meaningful donor relationships.

3. Verify vendor claims to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial guidelines.

4. Assist in the preparation of annual budgeting submission and revisions, including preparing estimating staff costs, and forecasting expenses such as utilities, office operations, and services.

5. Extract, input, and maintain financial data across various accounting and finance systems.

6. Assist in providing guidance to colleagues on accounting, budgeting, and financial matters when needed.

7. Assist in payroll preparation by conducting accuracy and validity checks on monthly payroll results.

8. Perform claim validations against documentation to confirm that that all purchases and services are properly authorized and received.

9. Support reporting activities, including the preparation of financial, budgetary, statistical, and other operational reports.

10. Provide administrative support for staff services such as travel arrangements, expense claims, and document retrieval.

11. Maintain proper record‑keeping, keeping complete and compliant documentation for all posted payments and accounting files in accordance with established standards.

12. Support payment process from initiation to completion in accordance with established procedures and internal controls.

13. Support invoice validation and other finance operations as required.
