Project Overview 

Anchor & Bloom is a community-based programme delivered by ARCC to support women from Asian and minoritised communities who have experienced domestic abuse and related trauma. The project recognises that many women face barriers to accessing mainstream services due to stigma, language, cultural expectations and fear of judgement. Anchor & Bloom creates safe, culturally sensitive spaces where women can access support, rebuild confidence and begin their recovery.

The programme combines trauma-informed counselling, creative therapy groups and practical recovery workshops with community outreach and early identification of domestic abuse. Alongside direct support for survivors, the project works to reduce isolation and stigma by opening up conversations within the community and strengthening safe pathways into specialist services.

To deliver this work effectively, ARCC is recruiting two Project Coordinators to lead the Mental Health and Domestic Abuse (DASV) strands of the programme and two community champions. These roles will work closely together to ensure women receive safe, coordinated and culturally competent support throughout their journey.

Role Purpose

To lead the domestic abuse and safeguarding elements of the Anchor and Bloom Project, supporting survivors accessing the programme while ensuring safe identification and referral for women who may still be experiencing active harm. The postholder will provide culturally sensitive, trauma-informed support, oversee risk assessment where needed, and coordinate appropriate pathways into specialist services alongside recovery-based activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Survivor Support & Safeguarding

• Act as safeguarding lead for the project.

• Support women accessing the programme who disclose domestic abuse.

• Carry out risk assessments where appropriate.

• Develop safety plans in collaboration with participants where needed.

• Coordinate referrals to specialist DASV services, including statutory and voluntary sector partners.

• Maintain clear safeguarding records and ensure policy compliance.

Community Engagement & Prevention

• Coordinate drop-in café sessions that provide safe, informal entry points to support.

• Lead awareness and community conversations addressing stigma, shame and honour-related barriers.

• Build relationships with faith leaders and community partners to improve safe access to services.

• Supervise and support the DASV Community Champion.

Project Coordination

• Maintain monitoring data relating to safeguarding, prevention and referral outcomes.

• Contribute to funder reporting and evaluation.

• Work closely with the Mental Health Coordinator to ensure joined-up delivery and appropriate case management.

• Participate in regular planning and review meetings.

• To undertake any other tasks that are commensurate with  the  post  and  which reflect the needs of the organisation.

• Work toward equalities and diversity in all the activities carried out. 

Person Specification

Essential

• Experience working within domestic abuse, VAWG or safeguarding services.

• Knowledge of risk assessment and referral pathways.

• Experience supporting survivors in community-based settings.

• Understanding of culturally specific barriers, including honour-based abuse and stigma.

• Ability to build trust within minoritised communities.

• Strong organisational and case management skills.

• Good interpersonal skills

Desirable

• IDVA or equivalent domestic abuse training.

• Experience delivering awareness or community engagement sessions.

• Multilingual skills relevant to local communities.
