Job description

Purpose of the role

Our DeafKidz Defenders (DKD) programme uses a visual, sign-language-accessible app and facilitated classroom sessions to teach deaf children how to recognise unsafe situations, say stop and tell a trusted adult. Since 2022, more than 4,000 deaf children across four countries have taken part, and 91% increased their knowledge of protective behaviours. We now want to bring DKD to the UK for the first time.

The UK Project Manager will be responsible for delivering all aspects of the proof of concept for the delivery of DKD in the UK for the first time.

This is a hands-on role, combining strategic direction with direct delivery. You will lead the project from beginning to end, and work closely with the CEO and programme teams to build and implement an effective rollout model in the UK.

Key responsibilities

•         Lead and drive the strategy for the first UK rollout of DeafKidz Defenders (DKD)

•         Define the minimum viable product (MVP) and e-learning environment for the UK market

•         Advise and co-ordinate resource creation, training materials and strategy for a new Training of Trainers (ToT) model for the UK rollout

•         Research and understand the rollout setting and key stakeholders, including sensory support services, local authorities and the education system for deaf children in the UK, and identify the main actors who could influence the project positively

•         Create a network of partners in deaf education and government

•         Manage stakeholders, including deaf schools, deaf organisations, NGOs and government

•         Manage ongoing product development and e-learning

•         Lead the pilot of DKD UK at Hamilton Lodge School for the Deaf and other schools in the UK

•         Lead the marketing and launch of the product/programme, managing media and press releases

Person specification: Skills & abilities, personal attributes

•         Strategic thinker with the ability to translate strategy into a deliverable, costed project plan

•         Excellent relationship-building and networking skills, with the confidence to engage trustees, high-profile individuals and other senior stakeholders

•         Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and format for different audiences

•         Strong financial and budget management skills, including forecasting, phasing and reporting

•         Inclusive, collaborative worker

•         Genuine commitment to DeafKidz International's mission and to deaf-led, child-centred and safeguarding-first practice

•         Comfortable working in a small, fast-moving charity where the postholder will both set strategy and deliver it personally

•         Creative, resilient and results-driven, with the flexibility to adapt

•         Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in all aspects of the role

•         A champion for accessible practice across the organisation

•         Strong accountability

•         Evidence of track record of delivering similar projects

•         Driver’s license and access to roadworthy car
