Job description

About Ditch the Label

At Ditch the Label, we support young people to thrive in an increasingly complex digital world.

We combine research, education and direct support so that young people can navigate the digital world safely and confidently. We work alongside young people. They take the lead on the issues that matter to them, helping to identify the challenges we address and shape the solutions.

  • Research. We generate high-quality, youth-led insights into the issues shaping young people's lives. Our reports inform our programmes and policy work, so that both are evidence-based and effective.

  • Education. We work with educators and young people to promote positive online practice and to offer solutions when challenges arise. We deliver this through our school membership programme of training, resources and support.

  • Support. We provide free, confidential support through online communities, one-to-one mentoring and therapeutic services. Delivered by our psychologists, counsellors and psychotherapists, it helps young people feel seen and heard, overcome challenges and access the tools they need to thrive.

The Role

The Head of Global Programmes will lead our international programmes, so that we support more young people around the world to navigate the digital world safely and confidently. This is a new, senior role, reporting directly to the CEO.

Our programme in Mexico is already up and running. You will lead it, line managing our Mexico Country Lead, and make sure it delivers strong outcomes for young people.

You will also launch new programmes in Asia and Europe. That means turning our research, education and support model into programmes that work locally, with in-country partners, staff and funding. As the portfolio grows, so will your team.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and leadership

  • Develop and deliver DTL's international programme strategy, working with the CEO.

  • Lead decisions on where and how we expand, based on need, partnerships and funding.

  • Report on progress, risk and impact to the CEO and Board.

  • Sit on the Senior Leadership Team and collaborate on organisational decision-making

Mexico programme

  • Lead the Mexico programme and line manage the Mexico Country Lead.

  • Make sure delivery is high quality, on budget and meets funder requirements.

  • Use learning from Mexico to shape our model for new countries.

New programmes in Asia and Europe

  • Scope, design and launch new programmes, adapting our model to local context, language and culture.

  • Recruit and manage in-country staff and delivery partners.

  • Build relationships with schools, NGOs, governments, platforms and other local stakeholders.

Partnerships and funding

  • Work with the CEO and fundraising colleagues to secure funding for international work.

  • Represent DTL with international funders, corporate partners and multilateral organisations.

  • Write programme sections of funding bids and funder reports.

Impact and safeguarding

  • Build monitoring and evaluation into every programme, so we can evidence what works.

  • Make sure young people help shape programmes in each country.

  • Ensure safeguarding, data protection and legal compliance across all countries we work in.

Team and budget

  • Manage international programme budgets.

  • Build and lead a growing international team.

Person Specification

Whatever level of academic qualification you have achieved, we are most interested in what you are proud of and how you think.

Strongly Preferred

  • Significant experience leading international programmes in a charity, NGO or development setting.

  • A track record of launching programmes in new countries, including recruiting local staff and partners.

  • Experience managing staff remotely and across cultures.

  • Strong programme and budget management, with experience of monitoring and evaluation.

  • Experience building relationships with funders, governments and partners, and contributing to successful bids.

  • A sound understanding of safeguarding in international programmes.

  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally on a regular basis.

Prefered

  • Experience in online safety, youth wellbeing, mental health or education.

  • Experience working in Latin America, Asia or Europe.

  • Spanish or another relevant language.

  • Experience working with tech companies or multilateral organisations.

What We Offer

  • A senior, permanent role leading the international growth of a youth charity.

  • £55,000 to 65,000 per annum.

  • Office-based in Brighton, with flexible working available.

  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.

  • A professional development budget.

  • Competitive Maternity and Paternity leave package

How to Apply

Please send your CV and a covering letter of no more than two pages..

Your letter should address the strongly preferred criteria. Please include one example of a programme you launched in a new country, and what it achieved.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

The young people we support come from every background, and our team should reflect them. We know that people from some communities are under-represented in charity leadership and face barriers in recruitment. We actively welcome applications from the global majority, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people, and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds. We also value lived experience of online harms, bullying or the issues we address.

We assess every application on skills, experience and potential, not just on where you studied or how your career has looked so far. If you meet most of the essential criteria but not all, we still encourage you to apply.

We will make reasonable adjustments at any stage of the process. Contact us to discuss what would help you. We are open to discussing flexible working from the start.
