We are an independent local charity in the Heart of Kent (Aylesford), offering a wide range of services to support local people and their loved ones, who are living with a life-limiting or terminal illness.
The work we do makes a real difference to the lives of local people and we support over 1000 patients at any one time between our Inpatient Unit and Community teams. The majority of this care is funded by the support given to us by our local community.
Being Head of Fundraising at Heart of Kent Hospice
As Head of Fundraising, you’ll be heading up an incredible team of 6 dedicated fundraising staff who, along with the support of our volunteers, work tirelessly to support our Hospice. Their dedication to, and care for, our supporters generates over £1.8 million annually, which is vital for funding our care.
This role is a hands-on, doing role, responsible for the day-to-day running of the fundraising function at the Hospice. The fundraising portfolio is both varied and diverse and the Head of Fundraising will be in amongst the team, overseeing the delivery and focusing on achieving and exceeding budget.
Working with the Communications Team you’ll support the team deliver integrated fundraising activity and develop outstanding supporter experiences and onward journeys.
Working with the Deputy Director of Fundraising and Communications you will support the development and oversee the delivery of a truly diverse fundraising portfolio that meets the needs of our changing community and their future interests and needs.
The fundraising team will be stewarding our incredible supporters and donors across fundraising events, community fundraising, challenge events, Corporate, In memory and regular giving portfolios.
Experience at a senior level in managing a varied and innovative fundraising environment, with a £1 million+ turnover, is crucial. Equally important is your passion, and drive, to make a difference and achieve results to make a profound difference. Please refer to the role JD for more information around main responsibilities.
Essential Criteria for the Role
o Extensive and progressive experience in fundraising, fundraising product development, or related fields, preferably within the healthcare or nonprofit sector.
o Have a pragmatic, creative and innovative approach to problem solving and decision making.
o Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written - able to communicate and build relationships with an array of people.
o Experience in developing fundraising products and supporter journeys.
o Experienced in budget setting and ongoing budget management, including reforecasting and day-to-day budget management and reporting.
o Experience with data analysis, and how to use this insight to progress future activity.
o Enthusiastic and pro-active, with a can-do attitude.
o Experience of and a passion for delivering high quality customer or supporter care while working efficiently and accurately.
o Enjoy collaborating with other team members.
o Excellent attention to detail.
o Experienced in IT - using databases to log and keep information accurately up to date, in a timely manner (the Hospice uses Raisers Edge).

Main duties and responsibilities
Fundraising Overview
1. Develop, deliver, and monitor a fundraising strategy for Pecan.
2. Maximise the contributions and connections with local churches and individuals.
3. Coordinate all Appeals including the Pecan and Foodbank Christmas fundraising campaigns and Big Give Campaigns across all income and media streams.
4. Research and utilise new fundraising streams and opportunities across Pecan such as Payroll Giving, Legacies, in Memory Giving and Online Giving.
Supporter Engagement and Stewardship
1. Establish systems, procedures, proactive stewardship, and an engagement programme to provide the highest levels of service to Pecan’s supporters.
2. To be responsible for thanking all supporters and managing a supporter engagement journey – ensuring that effective processes are in place and driving levels of satisfaction and loyalty.
3. Act as the ‘first point of call’ for all supporters and managing complaints and issues, ensuring they are reported centrally within agreed procedures, that they are resolved or escalated as necessary and maintaining excellent communication with supporters throughout these processes.
4. Develop and implement stewardship programmes including reactivation of lapsed donors.
Database Management
1. Assist with setting up our CRM database with responsibility of developing and maintaining the database, ensuring efficient, appropriate data capture and analysis for the purpose of effective stewardship, fundraising and communications.
2. Maintain data management standards, assisting with the implementation of processes and policies ensuring best practice is followed.
3. Train other staff members to be able to use the database sufficiently.
4. Ensure all records, fundraising data and fundraising administration is kept up to date and all information is GDPR-compliant.
5. Reconcile fundraising income with the Finance Manager, including Gift Aid claims, missed, failed payments and Direct Debit cancellations.
Individual Giving
1. Develop an Individual Giving and Acquisition strategy that drives growth for individual giving across multi-channel campaigns and initiatives.
2. Lead all individual giving streams such as direct mail appeals, online donations, regular campaigns and appeals to maximise income generation.
3. Work with the Marketing Manager on fundraising communication and to ensure donors are kept up to date on the difference their support makes.
4. Develop campaigns and messaging that engages new segments and audiences.
Church Giving
1. Inspire churches to journey with us as we transform lives in Peckham.
2. Pioneer and develop a broad range of relationships with churches, organisations, and denominations across Southwark.
3. Work strategically with denominations to inspire partnership and engagement with Pecan across their networks and congregations.
4. Build a team of speakers who will host and speak at meetings with churches and Christian networks in Southwark.
5. Be willing to represent Pecan at external events, including Christian exhibitions and festivals, church talks etc…
6. Increase income from churches.
Fundraising Appeals and Campaigns
1. Work alongside teams and Partnerships Manager to project manage fundraising appeals and campaigns including Pecan at 35yrs; Christmas Campaigns etc.
2. Overall responsibility for Big Give Campaigns.
3. Oversight of Enthuse campaign pages.
4. Establish a corporate fundraising strategy with an accompanying narrative, alongside the Partnerships Manager, to explain the work of Pecan to potential company supporters.
5. Tailor campaigns and appeals for different audiences and supporters alongside Partnerships Manager to target corporates; smaller local businesses; individuals and churches.
Staff and Volunteers
1. Support with recruiting fundraising volunteers as appropiate.
2. Management of a part time Partnerships Manager with responsibility.
3. Work closely with Head of Services and Head of Food Services to ensure all fundraising is coordinated.
Wider organisational responsibilities
· Attend Pecan team meetings as and when required, including meetings where there may be a time of prayer and reflection.
· Read and adhere to all policies and procedures.
· Lead on applications to charitable trusts or statutory bodies with support from the Head of Services.
· Undertake responsibilities associated with being a member of the Pecan team.

About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive person to join our small yet ambitious fundraising and communications team at Cherry Trees as Fundraising Assistant. 1. Fundraising

- Monitoring and replenishment of office supplies.
- Help to actively promote participation in our fundraising events and activities.

- To represent Cherry Trees on occasion at community events or other activity, and being flexibility and willing to travel and attend events outside normal office hours (time off in lieu given).

2. Stewardship
- Provide excellent support and stewardship to our supporters, challenge event participants, individual givers, community supporters and volunteers.

3. Information Management
- Using the fundraising database (Donorfy) ensure all activity and correspondence is recorded accurately, as well as supporting our team’s financial processes and data export needs (training will be provided).
- Be responsible for ensuring all records are maintained/updated on the fundraising database.
- To develop an in-depth knowledge of the database to be the go-to person, and identify opportunities to support your own activity and that of the team.
- Continuously aim to improve the efficiency of administration processes necessary for the smooth running of the fundraising department.
- Ensure that data processing is in accordance with GDPR compliance.
4. Finance and other
- To ensure all donations are processed and on the fundraising database, correctly, and supporters are thanked in a timely manner.
- To process the weekly fundraising income and financial reconciliation, with the support of volunteers (training will be provided).
- To undertake other reasonable activities as required by your line manager.

We are recruiting a Fundraising and Engagement Assistant apprentice to provide outstanding data management, supporter care and assist the Challenge Events Fundraising Officer and wider fundraising team to support our income generation.
What you will do:
Support the Fundraising team to uphold a high level of supporter care with a view to retention and increased engagement.
Efficiently and accurately process and reconcile all incoming donation information, received daily, weekly and monthly from multiple digital sources, onto our database and acknowledge these within agreed timescales.
Analyse all online income including but not exclusively from Just Giving, Enthuse, PayPal Giving Fund and Facebook along with all other income.
Ensure that all third party received income is recorded on Raisers Edge and produce accurate reports for internal stakeholders.
Be the first point of contact for challenge event supporters and manage and respond to queries.
Record and update non-financial supporter information such as, communication preferences, research information and other personal information in line with our Data Protection policy.
Distribute all parcels in a timely manner, making sure everything is recorded accurately.
To be successful in this role you will have:
English and Maths GCSE or equivalent grade C or above
Previous experience providing dedicated administration support.
Experience of handling sensitive information appropriately
Experience of working effectively within a team environment and assisting colleagues
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write reports.
Ability to handle calls and enquiries from stakeholders including people who may be vulnerable and /or bereaved sensitively and appropriately.

The apprenticeship programme is due to start in September 2024, provided by the Juice Academy - an industry-led apprenticeship provider. They are partnered with Jane Montague Consultancy to deliver the 13-15 month Fundraiser Level 3 programme. Apprentices work on the job within a charity whilst receiving 20% off the job training from current industry experts. The training sessions are a hybrid of face-to-face learning (two optional in-person days) in Manchester, and virtual half-day classrooms via Zoom. Apprentices also receive the on-the-job training in the workplace. The final three months of the course will be the ‘assessment period’ during which apprentices go through an End Point Assessment and are graded a pass, merit or distinction. Apprentices currently have a 94% distinction rate. The Juice Academy are part of the Apprentify Group, and development coaches support apprentices throughout the programme.
The qualification will include:

Salary: £23,114 per annum (SCP 4) progressing by increments to £23,893 per annum (SCP 6)

Fundraising Public Relations Officer
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic PR and marketing professional in our London fundraising office to design and deliver creative, multi-channel, integrated fundraising and PR campaigns designed to significantly increase the Hospital’s voluntary income.
The success of this role will be dependent on engaging and building meaningful long-term relationships with both existing and new supporters through effective donor stewardship, attending events, and networking.
The successful candidate will work in conjunction with a small, dedicated team to provide fundraising, comms, and event support to our community fundraising groups.
High quality comms and media are going to be central to our plans to go public in a big way in 2024. Creating high-quality, impactful, and engaging content for multimedia platforms will be key. You’ll be able to identify stories from across the organisation, draw out information and ideas from others, and successfully turn complicated or clinical information into clear, simple, and compelling narratives.
The role requires a creative thinker with exceptional communication and leadership skills.
Main responsibilities:
Fundraising
· Develop and implement integrated fundraising, marketing and PR campaigns designed to significantly increase the Hospital’s voluntary income.
· Create and promote compelling and engaging content for web, social media, and email – ensuring that all comms have clear goals and outcomes.
· Manage the key relationships with the Guild fundraising Committee and the SOA fundraising committee including comms, marketing, and event support as well as helping to manage the key relationships with the Knights Templar sub-groups, and the County Priory Groups across the UK.
· To put in place measures for evaluating the effectiveness of all fundraising, PR and marketing activity ensuring robust data collection, analysis procedures, and making suggestions for improvements where required.
· Manage the production of key organisational publications – including, the Jerusalem Scene magazine, Annual Report, Strategic Plan, Annual Leaflet, and other promotional materials.
· To work closely with the Executive Head of UK Office and project partners to deliver a new website, contributing expertise and ideas in regard to its look, feel and functionality.
· Take responsibility for the ongoing management and maintenance of the website, working with external consultants where required to resolve issues.
· Understand and apply the principles of up-to-date SEO.
· Working with colleagues in Jerusalem to maintain a bank of compelling messages, narratives, and case studies for use across all external communications.
PR & Media
· To actively promote the charity’s fundraising endeavours including drafting all external and internal messaging to both new and existing supporters – e.g. email campaigns, newsletters, invitations, letters, speeches, presentations etc. for senior staff and volunteers.
· Managing press and media opportunities related to SJEHG’s fundraising activities.
· Cultivate and maintain relationships with press and media, proactively pitching stories to secure media coverage, drafting press releases, media plans, articles, and other materials for SJEHG’s fundraising activities.
· To provide counsel and advice to senior leadership on external and internal messaging, as required.
Other
· To assist with the management of the marketing budget, monitoring expenses, ensuring cost effectiveness, seeking to maximise return on investment.
· To keep accurate records and help ensure effective data management processes across the organisation.
