First Give was founded in 2014 to inspire, equip and motivate young people to make a difference to the causes they care about. We are currently developing a new strategy which by which we aim to have reached a million young people by 2034. Our existing programmes are delivered in partnership with schools across England and Wales, ensuring that as many young people as possible, regardless of their background have the opportunity to take part. 

As second most senior leader in the charity, the Deputy Director will provide leadership to the First Give team and support the Board of Trustees and Director with strategy and governance. 

The Deputy Director will play an integral role in the development of the charity as we move into our second decade. They will spearhead our fundraising, communications and marketing to ensure the charity has the capacity to deliver against our strategic goals.

Key responsibilities 

Organisational Leadership and line management 

• Deputise for the Director when necessary 

• Provide leadership and positive role modelling to the First Give team 

• Support organisation-wide improvements and innovation, including strategic planning and organisational structure

• Work with the Director and Head of Programmes to create opportunities for young people to influence and engage with our work and impact

Fundraising 

• Work with the Director and consultants to own and implement a robust fundraising strategy to support the organisation as it executes its new strategic plan 

• Develop processes for managing fundraising applications and stewardship of existing funders and supporters 

• Write and submit high quality, inspiring and tailored funding applications and reports for trusts and foundations (expected to be in the region of £10,000-150,000) 

• Identify and develop potential new funding opportunities for First Give, including major donors and corporate funders 

• Manage relationships with a set number of key funders, ensuring that we proactively seek feedback, engagement and involvement in our work 

New School Partner Recruitment 

• Oversee and co-ordinate all new school partner recruitment sales and marketing activity 

• Work with our marketing agency to develop and implement marketing campaigns 

• Support the Programmes Team to recruit new partner schools in priority regions 

• Proactively seek opportunities for growth of the First Give partners network 

• Develop and design and production of marketing and sales resources to support all sales activity 

• You may also be required to deliver sales meetings with networks including Headteacher meetings and attend conferences to promote the work of the charity 

Communications 

• Lead the development and manage the delivery of our communications strategy, including all messaging to key stakeholders via a range of appropriate channels, including newsletters, social media and our website

• Brand champion, ensuring that all external communications and resources are aligned with our brand identity and tone of voice

Essential 

• Passionate about young people and their potential to drive social change 

• Leadership experience, ideally in a charity of similar complexity and scale 

• Ability to triage between the strategic and operational with ease and confidence 

• Demonstrable success as a fundraiser, particularly bid-writing, reporting and funder stewardship 

• Experience of developing and implementing a communications strategy 

• Experience of creating a range of content for different audiences and channels including marketing materials, newsletters, blogs, social media content etc…

About the team

Our Finance Department works as a team of experts to safeguard resources and support decision making across Shelter. We strive to ensure Shelter is financially sustainable in order to achieve our vision of a home for everyone. This particular role sits within the Financial Planning and Analysis team. We support the charity through financial reporting, analysis, and expert advice, and enable collaboration to support managers in making effective business decisions.

About the role

Joining a finance team that collaborates and communicates effectively to help us deliver our mission and vision, making vital business decisions that are driven by expert knowledge and financial acumen will be key to your success here. As part of the role, you’ll engage regularly with our Assistant Directors and their leadership teams to ensure that financial results and key messages are shared and you’ll support stakeholders in engaging with fully available financial insight and reporting.  When it comes to our stakeholders, you’ll support and lead finance education and training to equip them with the skills required to execute their own financial responsibilities.

Among your many challenges will be the need to align financial plans to operational and strategic plans and make sure they’re clearly understood by Business Units. Seeing that each Unit is provided with a channel of effective, two-way communication with Finance will be important too. You’ll also work with colleagues in Project Governance and HR Business Partnering to support Directorate planning and business cases, as well as supporting and leading on the delivery of cross-team projects.

About you

As well as being suitably qualified (or in the final stages of qualification), you’ll need to be used to working effectively with non-finance stakeholders and varying your communication style to suit the audience you’re addressing. You’ll also need excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to work to deadlines and reprioritise tasks when necessary.

Excellent analytical skills, impeccable attention to detail, a high level of numeracy and intermediate Excel skills are all ‘must haves’ too, as is proficiency in the main Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Word. Additionally, it would be an advantage if you have experience working in a Charity and have associated experience of managing restricted funds and fundraising.

Strategy Development and Implementation

• Leading the organisation through the iterative development and implementation of strategic projects to serve the ambition of Resurgo, to “inspire and equip organisations to deliver ambitious and sustainable social change”

Programme Manager – National Clinical Audit of Psychosis

This is a great opportunity to manage an exciting audit programme using new methodologies to support Early Intervention in Psychosis services. 

Within the College Centre for Quality Improvement, we run an exciting programme of NHS-funded national clinical audits, including the National Clinical Audit of Psychosis, which provides important data that is driving forward improvements in care for people with first episode psychosis. We are seeking a dynamic and proactive person for the Programme Manager (maternity cover) post. 

The successful candidate will have experience in project management and quality improvement in healthcare and/or clinical audit and will have a keen interest in data analytics. They will show attention to detail and have excellent organisational, report writing and communication skills. Responsibilities will include managing a complex programme of work, liaising with funders and expert advisors, supervising the project team, developing and delivering of project plans, and managing all aspects of the project, e.g. developing data collection tools and collecting and analysing data.

The Centre for Ageing Better launched the first ever campaign focusing on ageism in January 2024.

Ageism is the most widespread form of discrimination in the UK. And it will impact us all at some point, particularly as we get older. Ageism affects how society sees older people: they’re often reduced to offensive stereotypes, patronised, or treated as a burden. And it even affects how we see ourselves. As the years progress, we start to believe what we read, see and hear, and come to think that we’re ‘past it’.

The Head of Ageism Campaign plays a key role in a small team responsible for planning and delivering a nationwide public-facing campaign to bring an end to ageism in England. The public-facing campaign is one strand of a wider ‘age-friendly’ social movement aimed to make people think, feel and act differently about ageing, which will work on a number of levels and with a range of different audiences.

Under the direction of the Director of Communications & Policy and with an expert external consultant, this role is responsible for planning, delivering, measuring and iterating campaign activities that lead to measurable changes in attitudes and behaviour amongst the public.

The campaign will position Ageing Better as a thought leader and expert on ageism in England and mobilise the public and stakeholders around key activity and campaign moments, working at a national, regional and local level.

The postholder will jointly manage a creative agency to deliver phase two of our mass marketing campaign, ‘always on’ activity, and a moment of collective action once a year for warm audiences and ambassadors for the campaign.

Rowan Alba works to end homelessness in Edinburgh by providing permanent supported homes and building relationships with individuals in crisis. We are seeking an enthusiastic and confident communicator for the new role of Corporate and Community Fundraising Manager to increase awareness of our work and develop new funding streams from individual, community and corporate partnerships.

The Start Network is made up of close to 100 aid agencies working across six continents. Together, our aim is to transform humanitarian action through innovation, fast funding, early action, and locally driven humanitarian action. We're tackling what we believe are the biggest systemic problems that the sector faces. Problems including slow and reactive funding, centralised decision-making, and an aversion to change mean that people affected by crises around the world do not receive the best help fast enough, and needless suffering results. Our work focuses on responding to these problems. JOB PURPOSE

This senior management role will enable strategic thinking and design, influence diverse stakeholders, adapt agile ways of working and drive change in line with the vision of the Network.

You will enable the development of country and regional civil society hubs, driving decentralised decision-making, devolving power, and enabling local hub leaders to meet their needs defined and owned by them. You will work with the hubs and their members to understand their support needs, then facilitate and coordinate that support working with peer hubs and relevant members of the Start Network team expertise.

The role requires a good understanding of and experience in the humanitarian and/or development sectors, and an ability to work with local civil society. Awareness of power and political dynamics and sensitivity to different contexts and cultures is crucial. It also requires high levels of self-awareness and emotional intelligence, using your position connect, enable and influence others. You will be skilled at building relationships and brokering partnerships with empathy, credibility and equity. Listening and valuing diverse perspectives to build an inclusive team will be key to success. Solid programme and budget management will be critical to enabling the hubs vision and activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design, development planning

• With members and hubs, co-design, develop and enable the evolution of Start Network of Networks, including hubs.
• Coordinate and facilitate the delivery of support, expertise and services to hubs
• Work closely with the Membership and Assurance teams to support iNGO and member intake through hubs.

This new role will lead on Platform’s People and Process functions as we progress through the next stage of our exciting restructure process.

We are a flat-structured organisation that makes decisions collectively. We are currently developing and designing a new organisational structure based on sociocracy where staff are supported to work more collectively and strategically across our seven programs.
