Room to Heal is a human rights charity and therapeutic community based in London. Our mission is to support people who have survived or witnessed torture and organised violence to rebuild their lives in exile, through an integrated programme of therapeutic and casework assistance. We offer a range of activities including: therapy groups, gardening and food-growing, individual therapy and casework, theatre workshops, cooking and social gatherings, and therapeutic retreats.

At the heart of our work lies the cultivation of community, through which our members can restore meaningful relationships with themselves and others, overcome the legacy of their traumatic experiences and integrate into the UK. Our community is currently made up of over 100 members from over 30 countries: including former political prisoners; people who have been persecuted on account of their sexuality or religious belief; and those who have escaped trafficking.

About the role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Fundraising Manager to join our team and lead our fundraising efforts. This is a key role in ensuring we have the resources to continue providing vital support to survivors of torture and human rights violations. As the Fundraising Manager, you will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy, building relationships with key donors, and exceeding fundraising goals. We are predominantly funded by Trusts and Foundations and you will play a very important role in maintaining and expanding this funder base, as well as helping Room to Heal to diversify our income streams.

INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD ON ROLLING BASIS ON TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS. 

We’re looking for two self-starting team members who will help coordinate our JUMP befriending project for unaccompanied asylum seekers and refugees.

You’ll be responsible for half of the befriending pairs (currently 28, increasing to 50 in the coming months) and undertake tasks such as working with our partner organisations, managing referrals for young people, recruiting volunteer befrienders, and setting-up and sustaining pairs. This includes leading an initial training day.

You’ll also provide JUMP young people with casework support, help organise our group events and facilitate support from our Hardship Fund.

Main functions

Supporting young people and the JUMP Community

1. Managing a caseload of young people; including offering casework support; arranging and attending appointments with the young person where necessary and signposting to available support.
2. Helping plan and organise quarterly group events.
3. Conducting initial assessments with young people to understand their needs, and once paired with a volunteer, hosting befriending initial meetings.

 Supervising and supporting volunteers

1. Recruiting, interviewing and onboarding new befrienders, including organising and delivering training.
2. Supporting befriending volunteers through regular supervisions, meetings, emails and phone calls, and responding promptly to any safeguarding concerns raised.
3. Ensuring that volunteers uphold JUMP’s policies and boundaries for befriending.

Publicising JUMP, and engaging with key stakeholders

1. Publicising the project to existing and potential referral agencies, and establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with them.
2. Representing HIAS+JCORE and JUMP in the refugee sector as required, for example at the Refugee and Migrant Children’s Consortium (RMCC) meetings.

Project monitoring, evaluation and record keeping

1. Working with experts and the JUMP Project Manager on supporting the project and its evaluation, and keeping accurate records in JUMP’s database.

Other Duties

1. Ensuring that JUMP informs our campaigns, communications and education work. As the project develops, there will be opportunities for the post-holder to contribute to and support these areas of our work.

• Ability to support, develop rapport and trust with, and motivate both young people and volunteers from a range of backgrounds and ages in challenging circumstances, including the ability to facilitate and engage in cross cultural communication.
• Knowledge of issues facing separated asylum seeking and refugee children and young people, and the rights and entitlements of ‘Looked After’ children and young people.
• Understanding of the current context surrounding immigration, asylum and welfare issues facing children and young people in the UK today.
• Understanding of Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult Safeguarding, and ability to communicate this to volunteers.
• Understanding of youth work principles and methods, including the benefits and challenges of befriending and other participatory methods.
• Ability to network in the refugee sector and develop strong working relationships.
• Ability to work independently and to self-motivate.
• Commitment to HIAS+JCORE values, social justice and antiracism.
• The ability to communicate in languages other than English, in particular Arabic, Spanish and French (desirable)

Experience required

Essential

• A track record of working directly with asylum seeking and refugee children and young people.
• Experience of social work, youth work, or other relevant methods of supporting people in challenging circumstances.
• Experience of training, coordinating and supporting volunteers.
• Experience of juggling commitments and responding to relevant stressful situations.

Desirable

• Educated to at least undergraduate degree level, or equivalent background or experience.
• Working knowledge of Local Authorities’ responsibilities for Looked After Children and Care Leavers.
• Experience of project management including administration, monitoring, evaluation and report writing.

Role details

Salary: £30,000 (pro-rata'd to £18,000)

The opportunity

We are seeking to recruit a Suicide Prevention Therapist to support men in suicidal crisis at our centre in Liverpool. We are looking for an experienced mental health professional or therapist with demonstrable interest in suicide prevention. We will work with you and train you to develop your therapeutic skills to offer our collaborative semi-structured psychologically informed intervention. You will support the centre user and their supporter(s) to recover from the suicidal crisis and maintain their safety. You will report to a Senior Suicide Prevention Therapist.

This appointment is part of our growth as a charity. The successful candidate will join an experienced supportive team and will gradually build a caseload supporting four men in suicidal crisis per day to meet the growth of referral partnerships and increased awareness raising in Liverpool.

The Charity

James’ Place exists to stop men dying by suicide. We opened our first centre in 2018 in Liverpool, the first of its kind in the UK, in 2022 we launched our second centre in London, and this year we opened our third centre in Newcastle. To date, we have supported over 1500 men and delivered over 7000 sessions of our life-saving intervention. James’ Place is a therapy centre for men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis, and it was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. It offers men a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected.   

Building on the success of our centres in Liverpool, London, and Newcastle, we are now expanding our model to reach more men in suicidal crisis. Our aim is to have five centres open across England by 2026.

Summary of the Role

They are looking for a new Assistant Coach, to work alongside the Centre Manager, as part of the team at Citizen Church to deliver the Spear Programme, equipping and empowering unemployed 16–24 year olds to overcome barriers to employment and turn their lives around by moving into sustainable work or further education.

The important stuff 

Salary: £21,000 p.a. pro rata for part-time role (£10,500) 

Hours: Part time, 2.5 days per week, between 9.30am – 5.30pm, Tuesday – Thursday (with some flexibility and occasional evening or weekend work for events such as Spear Celebrations)

Key Responsibilities

Spear Programme

• Lead group sessions of up to 10 young people, using coaching skills to transform their mindsets, and to maximise their potential in stepping into the world of work
• Prepare and deliver coaching sessions on a weekly basis and find creative ways of developing ongoing relationships with Spear Trainees. This includes running application workshops with past Trainees as well as maintaining records and reporting on statistics.

Relationship management

• Build and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including referrers, local businesses, and other organisations
• You will support with job fairs, mock interview days and welcoming external visitors to the centre

Church Community

• The Spear Coach is directly employed by Citizen Church, meaning you are part of a vibrant church staff team and submerged in an exciting faith community
• Help to raise the profile of the Spear programme within Citizen Church and build a network of supporters and volunteers from the congregation
• Other ad hoc church responsibilities from time to time.

Permanent part time opportunity working flexibly from our Reading office, from home and within the community

18.5 hours per week covering Oxfordshire (South Oxfordshire, Oxford City and Vale of the White Horse)

Starting salary range: £12,373 to £15,122 pro rata per annum depending on experience (£24,745 to £30,243 full time equivalent)

This role is a hybrid role within the Children and Families Team which is part of the Wiltshire Domestic Abuse Service, providing support to children and young people that have witnessed or experienced domestic abuse.

The Children and Young Persons Triage Advisor will act as the gateway for all children and young people referrals to the Wiltshire Domestic Abuse Service. Working within an experienced and established team, the Children and Young Persons Triage Advisor will:

- Triage referrals, with a particular focus on children and young people who have witnessed or experienced domestic abuse.

- Conduct risk assessments and offer immediate safety planning advice.

- Respond to safeguarding concerns.

- Signpost victims and professionals to other support agencies where appropriate.

- Provided early intervention support to children and young people as part of triage and welfare calls made.

- Offer specialist domestic abuse advice and support to professionals.

- Making welfare calls to victims who are waiting to start structured support.

- Support as required with co-facilitating in our children and young persons group work provision

In addition, the role requires the building of effective relationships both internally within the Wiltshire Team and externally, supporting a multi-agency approach.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Working within the agreed policies, principles and codes of practice of FearFree, the post holder will:

Working with children and young people and risk management:

• Provide a victim focused service, with an understanding of the impact of trauma on children and young people.
• Demonstrate specialist knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse and how this may impact on the children and young people and their wider family unit.
• Provide advice, guidance and support to children and young people who have witnessed or experience domestic c abuse.
• Assess, manage and review risks to service users, colleagues and self, including the use of the dash risk assessment tool and SOAG.
• Make safeguarding referrals where appropriate: including to Children’s Social Care, Adult Social Care, Mental Health crisis teams and MARAC.
• Work directly with individuals or groups as agreed with the Team Manager.
• Safeguard the health and welfare of the children and young people and their families.
• Respond to emergencies and crisis situations including supporting a service user to access a place of safety if appropriate.
• Manage and support service users by telephone with low to medium support needs in line with the agreed values and aims of the service.
• Support as required with co-facilitating in our children and young persons group work provision
• Act as duty worker as part of a rota system. Duty shifts take place in the Trowbridge Office on weekdays between 9 and 5pm.

Team working 

• Offer professional advice and support to multi-agency partners.
• Feedback to the Team Manager, Wiltshire Service Manager and/or other Support Workers any information related to the service users support needs or risk issues, and progress on support tasks.
• Work effectively in partnership with multiple statutory and voluntary agencies to enhance service delivery, safety and safeguarding.
• Contribute to effective team working with a flexible and pro-active approach, including cover for other team members’ holiday and sickness.
• Work closely with other agencies, to network with, make referrals to and maintain good relationships with, and be able to disseminate information appropriately.
• Communicate with other staff, as well as the Team Lead and Wiltshire Service Manager, issues related to activities and work undertaken.

Administrative duties 

• Help provide a responsive support service with a high quality of customer care.
• Answer the telephone and take messages and referrals, take action on messages and referrals and provide a triage service for all children and young people referrals.
• Assist in the referral process and children and young people follow up calls, contacting other agencies and helping to arrange appointments.
• Assist in the assessment and identifying children and young people for priority allocation
• Update written and computerised records with accurate clear information to deadline, including maintaining details of any special needs required by service users.
• Assist with monitoring and evaluation policies and procedures and producing reports.

Additional tasks and responsibilities:

• Ensure personal safety for self, other staff and service users at all times
• Participate in personal training and supervision opportunities and attend team meetings.
• Carry out other tasks appropriate to the post, which may be identified as the service develops and as agreed with the Team Manager and Wiltshire Service Manager.
