The Director of Development and External Affairs will determine a strategic plan for business development, fundraising and commercial opportunities within the remit of the role. We are working with an independent research institute who are recruiting for a Executive Assistant to the Director and COO. The Director, has responsibility for research within the institute, and also is a senior professor. The COO, oversees the charitable and administrative structures of both the institute.
Although the primary focus of the role is support for the Director and COO, the role will contribute to the wider institute, particularly event and meeting support. The Grants Programme Assistant will support both the Executive Director and the Assistant Manager across the remit of the SCLF’s work to help it deliver its objectives. This is a unique and interesting opportunity to join the organisation at a key point in its ten-year trajectory as it works to support schools to continue their language provision post 2026 and help shape what that future might look like.
The postholder will play a key role when it comes to supporting the Executive Director and Assistant Manager in their day-to-day roles and get very involved in the operations of the Foundation. The work will cover wide remit of areas including: financial administration, supporting with termly funding reports-and-request process for schools, preparing internal expense requests and maintaining the expenses log. BUDGETING & REPORTING
- Preparation of annual income and expenditure budgets for the Charity, working collaboratively with Heads of Department and members of SMT.
- Review and collate all Head office service costs and professional fees and calculate cross company charging for financial reporting.
- Provision of income and expenditure reports, variance analysis and reconciliation of fundraising activities.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including balance sheet, metrics, and commentary.
- Provide a quarterly report for submission to the Board of Trustees
- Formulate monthly rolling forecast cashflow for the Charity and Trading Company including phased income budget and planned expenditure.
FINANCIAL SYSTEMS CONTROL
- Ensure the organisation operates robust accounting procedures and systems of internal financial control in line with current good practice and legislation.
- Oversee and facilitate the annual external audit but effective liaison with the auditors and preparation of accounts ready for inspection.
- Regular review of access rights and permissions for accounting, banking & HR software systems
- Ensure the Charity works in accordance with Charity SORP, HMRC, Charity Commission Regulations and other relevant bodies’ recommended code of practice.

For a leading global NGO, we're recruiting a Project Financial Controller for a fixed term of 12-months. I am urgently seeking an experienced AD of People,Equity & Culture to cover a 10 to 12 month period of maternity leave at a renowned Charity based in East London, to start ASAP. Reporting to the Director of Resources, you will have strategic oversight of a team of 24, including 5 direct reports in People, OD, Talent, Equity and Quality & Safeguarding. Who we are.
The Orchard Project brings orchards into the heart of urban communities, along with the many benefits they provide: environmental, physical, mental, social, and educational. They are the only national charity dedicated to the creation, restoration and celebration of community orchards.
For many hundreds of years, orchards were a key part of communities across the UK. But sadly, due to urban development, many of these green spaces, which are hubs of biodiversity, have disappeared. The Orchard Project’s mission is to reverse this decline and ensure everyone in cities across the UK is within easy reach of a thriving community orchard.
They also provide accredited horticultural courses and training with a view to increasing employment and representation amongst marginalised communities and host events and activities centred around orchards to improve community cohesion.
The fruit produced by orchards is used by local communities and shared throughout cities by teaming up with foodbank charities and advocating nationwide for the benefits of community orchards.
The Orchard Project is a national charity working across the country with bases in London, Manchester, Bristol, Swansea, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
About the role.
As Head of Fundraising and a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you’ll work closely with the CEO to devise the organisation’s fundraising strategy as they enter a positive and ambitious new five-year plan.
There is a very well-established trust and foundation fundraising programme, which you’ll work to continue and expand, building on existing relationships and spotting opportunities to create new partnerships with relevant funders. Using creativity, you will secure multiyear unrestricted six-figure grants from an array of grantmakers as you continue the diversification of this income stream.
The charity is continuing the expansion of its fundraising strategy to incorporate new income streams, a project you’ll spearhead with the launch of digital fundraising. You’ll target individual givers to open up new revenue sources through digital sources as you tap into the goodwill for the charity and its work across the nation.
Who we are looking for.
We are seeking an experienced fundraiser and emotionally intelligent manager with expertise in imaginative bid-writing for significant multiyear grants. A combined strategic and operational outlook will be crucial to this role and the success of fundraising.
You will be process-driven but creative with a desire to try new things and collaborate with colleagues to create new and exciting projects to attract funders and expand the charity’s impact.
Suitable candidates will be passionate about the environment and uplifting marginalised communities, with a willingness to influence and shape the charity for years to come.
