Finance Manager
£48,000 - £58,000 plus excellent benefits and holiday
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations you will provide operational management of the finance department of the school, ensuring accurate financial reporting, appropriate financial controls are in place, that cash is managed prudently and that the department provides timely and relevant support to the business
Key Responsibilities include:
- Manage the finance team and the day to day running of the Finance Department to support the operation of the Prep and Senior School and subsidiary companies.
- Prepare management accounts, including balance sheet for the School and its subsidiaries each month showing the financial performance and position of each entity compared with budget, and produce a concise commentary on variances and other matters of significance and review with the DFO
- Providing information for the DFO and Finance and Council meetings as required
- With the DFO, prepare annual budgets for review
- Manage the annual audit and prepare audit files for submission by required date and manage the audit onsite field work team
- Prepare the annual Statement of Financial Activities and Balance Sheets for the School and its enterprise and international companies
- Assist DFO in preparation of annual Directors' Report
- Prepare monthly cash statements and aged debtor analyses
- Prepare cash flow statements each term
- Ensure the fixed asset register is maintained and depreciation calculated accurately
- Ensure that all intercompany transactions are properly reflected in the accounts of each company and in the consolidated financial statements of the School
- Prepare group VAT returns for the School's and subsidiaries and monitor non-VATable transactions for the Charity in respect of registration requirements
- Reverse VAT charges for overseas agents
- Liaise with VAT consultant where necessary
- Corporation Tax Returns for trading subsidiaries in conjunction with advisor
- Reconcile bank accounts for restricted funds and analysis of fund market values and ensure all other bank accounts are reconciled monthly (fees and operating accounts)
- Reconciliation (and supervision) of all major nominal ledger control accounts
- Liaising with overseas partner schools re income and payments
- Reporting on investment portfolios
- Daily management of cash and optimisation of income from cash deposits
- Managing daily posting of all fees and operating bank accounts by Finance Team
- Managing the purchase ledger operation.
- Accurately managing accruals and prepayments and reporting for audit
- Recognising all non-fee/other income appropriately including donations, restricted and non-restricted

Two thirds of the RNLI’s operations are funded from legacies, and we are looking for the right individual to lead the Legacy Income department, ensuring that income is maximised, and all legal requirements are met. Dealing with over 4,000 open cases at any point in time, the department offers the full range of technical challenges including dealing with the funding of up to 100 projects.
You will serve as an ambassador of the RNLI in dealing with banks, executors, solicitors and other charities as well as providing a first-class service to internal departments, executive management, our trustees and volunteers.
We are looking for an excellent people manager with a strong technical background in legacy administration. You will have significant probate experience gained preferably in a charitable environment, be an expert in dealing with contentious matters and will ideally be a member of the Institute of Legacy Management.
To succeed, you will enjoy working with people, have a strong customer focus and have excellent skills in communicating complex issues to a variety of customers.

About the team
Our Finance Department works as a team of experts to safeguard resources and support decision making across Shelter. We strive to ensure Shelter is financially sustainable in order to achieve our vision of a home for everyone. This particular role sits within the Financial Planning and Analysis team. We support the charity through financial reporting, analysis, and expert advice, and enable collaboration to support managers in making effective business decisions.
About the role
Joining a finance team that collaborates and communicates effectively to help us deliver our mission and vision, making vital business decisions that are driven by expert knowledge and financial acumen will be key to your success here. As part of the role, you’ll engage regularly with our Assistant Directors and their leadership teams to ensure that financial results and key messages are shared and you’ll support stakeholders in engaging with fully available financial insight and reporting. When it comes to our stakeholders, you’ll support and lead finance education and training to equip them with the skills required to execute their own financial responsibilities.
Among your many challenges will be the need to align financial plans to operational and strategic plans and make sure they’re clearly understood by Business Units. Excellent analytical skills, impeccable attention to detail, a high level of numeracy and intermediate Excel skills are all ‘must haves’ too, as is proficiency in the main Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Word. Additionally, it would be an advantage if you have experience working in a Charity and have associated experience of managing restricted funds and fundraising.

Digital Analyst
A brand new and urgent contract opportunity has arisen for a Digital Analyst with a strong knowledge of Google Analytics (GA4) and Google Tag Manager to join an award winning, nationally recognised organisation in the charity sector.
This initial 6-month contract will see the Digital Analyst aid in the organisation’s website development project, whilst improving how web analytics are used. If you are currently a Digital Analyst with working knowledge of GA4 and GTM and a keen interest to develop your digital analysis skills, then this is the perfect role for you!
Skills that are required for a Digital Analyst are:
