MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

2. Liaise with volunteers, external facilitators, school administrative and teaching staff on school projects as needed, in the pre- and post-event stage.

3. Attend in-person events in the borough (in both schools and workplaces) to assist with delivery, volunteer management and event logistics.

4. Compile data and reports on business and volunteer activity as directed by the Senior Project Manager on the Secondary Team. Work with the wider team to produce annual impact reports and volunteer data reports on specific projects, highlighting key achievements and areas for improvement.

What is it like to work for us?

Job Description

Join our team as a Curriculum Specialist, helping us to support teachers, champion great teaching and raise the status of the profession by leading on the final stages of our flagship Rethinking Curriculum project and developing curriculum-related content and resources for members of the Chartered College of Teaching.

Job Title - Curriculum Specialist

Reports To - Associate Director for Research and Policy

Salary - £38,000 - £42,000 per annum dependent on experience

Contract - Full-time or part-time considered, fixed term until 31st March 2027

Hours - A full working week is 35 hours. We are open to full time or part time candidates.

The Opportunity

Our organisation supports teachers to make a difference to the lives of millions of children worldwide. Our Research and Policy team, within which this role will be situated, works to connect research, policy and practice through internally and externally funded research projects, thought leadership work as well as online and face-to-face events.

Over the duration of the contract, you will:

• lead the final phase of delivery of our Rethinking Curriculum project with a focus on delivering sustainable impact for the future;
• update the College’s existing curriculum Toolkits, so they align with ongoing updates of the National Curriculum;
• refine an online course on creative and critical thinking, transitioning from a cohort-based model to a self-paced model;
• oversee and chair an online events portfolio relating to the project;
• support the organisation and delivery of an in-person book launch and celebration event to mark the culmination of the project;
• contribute to the final report of the project;
• develop the existing Rethinking Curriculum Evaluation Framework to extend so could be suitable for secondary settings, particularly KS3 to support transition;
• develop a strategy for and launch a curriculum-focused special interest group (SIG) for members to support the legacy of the Rethinking Curriculum project;
• support the Fellow engagement strategy at the College by organising relevant, curriculum-related roundtables to support the legacy of the Rethinking Curriculum project;
• oversee project finances under the guidance of the Associate Director for Research and Policy;
• develop a suite of relevant resources to support schools in implementing changes following the consultation for the new National Curriculum;
• ensure funder requirements for the delivery and closure of the project are met;
• represent the Chartered College of Teaching at relevant events.

This would be an ideal opportunity for somebody with a strong background in curriculum development. You will:

• have autonomy for the delivery of the final stages of our flagship Rethinking Curriculum project;
• work collaboratively with many of the team across the organisation, supporting recruitment and retention of our members;

About You

Curriculum development is a key priority area for the government and therefore for school leaders and teachers in England.

Essential skills and experience:

• A good understanding of the research landscape relating to curriculum development and implementation across phases;
• Experience developing teacher-facing resources and professional learning content relating to curriculum planning and development;
• Experience producing content (e.g., written reports and research summaries) for a range of audiences (e.g., teachers, school leaders and policymakers);
• Experience liaising with funders and managing a project, including a project budget;
• Experience organising and delivering professional events, including conferences, roundtables, workshops or other engagement activities.

Desirable skills and experience

• Educated with a higher degree in education and/or Chartered Teacher Status;

As Data Curator, you will play a key role in making sure our data can be used safely, effectively and insightfully to support research and generate impact. You will work across teams to understand how data is generated, how it is currently used, and how systems, processes and tools can be strengthened so that our data is reliable, accessible and fit for research purposes. 

You will work closely with colleagues behind the NIoT’s Teacher Education Dataset (TED), helping to maintain and enhance curated datasets and explore how new sources of data can strengthen our understanding of teacher and leader development. 

You will also collaborate with researchers and practitioners working through the NIoT’s Professional Development Laboratory, our test-and-learn centre focused on identifying and sharing effective approaches to professional development. This role is fixed term due to funding, and it is too early to comment on the possibility of a permanent position.

This is a hybrid role, with the requirement for in person working for a minimum of once a fortnight, occasionally this will be more due to business need. The role includes participation in our annual all-staff away day (including an overnight stay) and occasional national travel.

• Degree level education, or equivalent experience.

• Strong documentation skills such as writing data dictionaries, process documentation, and data flow mapping 
• Understanding of data linking concepts and the challenges involved 
• Knowledge of GDPR and data sharing in an education context 
• Experience with tools like Excel, SQL, R, Python or GitHub at a basic level 
• Degree in a relevant field such as data science, information management, education, social science, or a related discipline 
• Evidence of continuing professional development in data management (e.g. CDMP, or relevant training)

About the role 
This role will provide cross team support to both the School Partnerships and the Teaching and Learning functions of the charity. Within the School Partnerships team, they will play a key role in supporting effective engagement of school and MAT partners by ensuring the smooth running of both day-to-day operations and longer-term projects. This element of the role is central to developing and maintaining relationships with schools and MATs, while also managing essential administrative processes, communications, reporting and systems. Within the Teaching and Learning function, they will support the delivery of the training, curriculum design and quality assurance of tutors working across The Brilliant Club’s Access Programmes and Projects. The role leads on several administrative processes, including course design, tutor training and programme team liaison, engaging with stakeholders both internally and externally to ensure that tutors and curriculum documents are of the highest quality when they arrive in schools. The English-Speaking Union delivers high-quality oracy education programmes and projects across England and Wales. Role Overview

ESU Competition Leads host our ESU competitions, All over the country including the ESU Schools’ Mace Debating Competition, the ESU Public Speaking Competition and the ESU Performing Shakespeare Competition. The ESU Competition Lead is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of events (heats) throughout the competitions, with duties including Zoom hosting and MCing. If required, Competition Leads may sit on the judges’ panel and provide constructive feedback to students and teachers participating. You will also support and provide guidance for our volunteer judges, ensuring they have a positive experience while volunteering with the ESU. NB The ESU is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Therefore, we expect all contractors to share this commitment. Responsibilities

 For all competitions you will:

• Support and promote the charitable objectives of the ESU, acting as an ambassador for the organisation
• Assist the ESU Competitions Team in ensuring competition heats run smoothly and act as point of contact for schools and volunteers on the day of heats
• MC or compere Zoom and in-person heats, engaging both students and audience whilst following ESU scripts
• Be the technical host for Zoom ESU competition heats, setting up and hosting Zoom meetings, creating break-out rooms and acting as tech support throughout heats
• Provide accurate heat results in a timely manner to the ESU Competitions Team
• Support volunteer judges and ensure they have a positive and rewarding experience
• If required, be part of judging panels at ESU competition heats (which may include acting as chair judge) offering fair, positive, constructive and unbiased feedback based on our judging criteria
• Follow the ESU’s safeguarding policies and provide oversight of safeguarding and equity requirements, in line with ESU policies
• Signpost teachers and volunteers to resources, other ESU programmes and additional support, such as through the ESU website
• Undertake training sessions for continual professional development

Essential criteria:

• Be over 18 years of age and have the right to work in the UK
• Be confident in engaging with and motivating young people of different abilities and backgrounds
• A passion for education, social mobility and/or developing young people's oracy skills

• A confident and engaging public speaker with experience hosting events or judging

Programme delivery  

Once trained, Education Officers deliver classroom-facing and teacher-facing education across all of our core programmes – Lessons from Auschwitz; Testimony 360; Outreach and Teacher Training - drawing on their own teaching experience and understanding of effective pedagogy. Delivery of our programmes takes place both during and outside school term dates and hours. Training will be provided to deliver across all our programmes within the first six months in post. 

Programme development, innovation and resource production 

• Work with the Senior Education Officer to plan, develop and review programmes and resources.
• Train internal and external educators to deliver the Trust’s programmes. 

Impact, Evaluation and Learning 

• Understand and hold the Trust’s Theory of Change and, with the Education Team, support its delivery in practice. 
• Work with the Senior Education Officer and wider Education Team to participate in impact evaluation, programme monitoring and feedback. 
• Use evaluation findings to inform programme development and improvement. 

Partnerships and External Relations 

• Represent the Trust at national and international conferences and forums.
