Location: London/Remote working. For staff based in London, there are two core days per week at our London office. For staff outside London, there is more flexibility, with all staff expected to travel to the office at least once per month.

About Get Further

One in three students leave school each year without a standard pass (grade 4 or above) in GCSE English and maths, with this rising to over one in two among disadvantaged young people. This educational gap leads to significant barriers in further education, apprenticeships, and employment, impacting millions throughout adulthood.

Get Further exists to change this. Our charity delivers targeted interventions to help disadvantaged learners in Further Education secure gateway English and maths qualifications that open doors to better opportunities. Our programmes include an award-winning GCSE Resit Tuition Programme, Functional Skills Tuition, and specialist support for teachers and leaders.

The Role

We are seeking a driven and passionate Marketing and Communications Officer to lead our day-to-day digital communications and support the delivery of creative marketing, brand, and advocacy initiatives. Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Manager, you will help bring our mission to life through compelling content and consistent, high-quality communications.

Key Responsibilities

Digital platforms

• Create and deliver engaging social media content and campaigns

• Design graphics and video assets using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite

• Write and send emails and newsletters supporting marketing, advocacy, and recruitment

• Manage blog content, proofreading and uploading to the website

• Maintain and update the Get Further website using WordPress

• Analyse campaign performance using analytics tools and recommend improvements

Partnerships

Working arrangements

Regular travel within the area, and occasionally to other parts of the UK.

During austerity and Covid we diversified, successfully taking on NHS work with people with long-term health conditions. We provide social prescribing support and health and wellbeing coaching to patients for Brent GPs. In 2024-5 we helped over 18000 people. We’re a leading partner on the Brent Health Educators Programme. Recently we’ve focused on developing and retaining a much larger staff group, using our data better and improving our marketing.

Brent Mencap offers fantastic free creative and wellbeing activities for people with a learning disability, autism and long-term health conditions. These have flourished since Covid. People love yoga, poetry, singing, gardening, Breathe and Move, self-advocacy, campaigning, awareness raising, CREATE art activities for young people, external trips and parties. Small grants, donations and our reserves fund this while we get longer term funding. Our self-advocates want us to focus on paid employment, youth services and making Brent Council use accessible information properly. People with a learning disability, neurodiversity and their family carers are inclusively supported by social prescribers for advice and by health educators/coaches for health-related matters if needed.

Our income has substantially  increased from £382k in 19/20 to £1.71 million in 23-24. We’ve had to adapt quickly, developing and retaining a much larger staff group, using our data better and improving our marketing.

Our current finance manager has been pivotal to Brent Mencap’s recent growth, adapting to paying more people, dealing with complicated invoices, making sure we get paid promptly, being as diligent about a project budget worth 5k as our overall budget and supportive with staff  wage queries. While there is lots of data input, reconciling, processing purchase orders, the role involves real involvement in project development, monitoring with other managers and face-to-face involvement with users and staff. It’s never boring and definitely not for the faint hearted!!

As Finance Manager for Brent Mencap, you will have a key leadership position. You will be responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of our finances, ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements while ensuring our services are sustainable through sound financial planning. You will work closely with the Executive Director and Trustee Board to provide accurate insights and projections that support long-term growth and resilience.

Summary of the role:

The Global Programmes Manager provides supervision and management support to Muslim Aid Country Offices and implementing partners ensuring the efficient and effective implementation of high-quality delivery of projects and programmes in line with organizational strategy, in compliance with donor expectations, governmental and international standards.

The role is responsible for technical and management advice and support to ensure Muslim Aid Country Offices and partners are implementing, monitoring and evaluating programme activities in compliance with Muslim Aid’s strategy and budget as well as recognised international standards.

Role Title: External Communications and Advocacy Lead

This is a rare opportunity to shape the new communications function in a thriving cancer charity, establishing Shine as the go-to charity supporting all young adults living with any type of cancer in the UK.

Responsible to: Co-CEOs

Location: Hybrid, with two to three days per week at Shine’s offices in Blackheath, Southeast London. 

Hours & salary:  Full time (35 hours per week).  Salary range is £39,000 - £43,000pa depending on experience.  This is a permanent job with a three-month probation period.

Main purpose of the role:

As part of our growth plan, we are delighted to be hiring our first Communications and Advocacy Lead. Working on our external communications strategy to build authority and be the go-to voice for younger adults (aged 20 to 49 years) living with cancer, this person will be responsible for managing all external communications. In addition, will work closely with the rest of the Shine team to ensure consistent external messaging.

Key Responsibilities

These include:

● Develop implementation plans to support Shine’s communications strategy to build authority in the cancer support space.

● Responsible for developing the Shine narrative, brand voice, and talking points to support external stories and campaigns, and to co-create fundraising messages with the Fundraising Manager and Fundraising Consultant.

● Responsible for all external communications with media including national and regional outlets, print and broadcast, digital channels and titles read by healthcare professionals.

● Supervision of the social media output from Shine, ensuring consistency with the overall communications plan. 

●       Ability to represent Shine at external stakeholder meetings.

●    Working closely with the Shine team to raise Shine’s profile through advocacy activities in the cancer community and healthcare professionals.

● Work with Shine co-CEOs to develop their external profiles through thought-leadership, speaker and advocacy platforms.

Person Specification

Essential skills:

● Ability to develop multi-channel communications plans, using social, digital and traditional media platforms

● Knowledge of UK health media including health correspondents and reporters for national news outlets (print & TV and radio)

● A good eye for design, with the ability to manage, develop and implement brand guidelines

● Experience of working with media databases and press release distribution services

● Excellent writing skills and experience of writing materials for media

● Ability to create media angles and stories from data and third-party content

● Identify platforms for Shine thought-leadership, particularly for the co-CEOs

● Strong skills in using online technology platforms including Google workspace, Canva, YouTube and MS Office.

Desirable skills:

● Experience of working alongside expert suppliers including design and content, public relations agencies and consultants. 

● Experience of managing projects remotely, including using tools such as Asana.

Core competencies:

● Empathy - understanding of the issues faced by the young adults (20-49 yrs.) living with cancer

● Attention to detail -must deliver accurate content to a high standard

● Self-directed - must be able to work independently and make strategic recommendations to Shine co-CEOs on all aspects of Shine communications

● Collaborative - ability to represent Shine and work in partnership with third parties including patient groups, medical professional groups and industry.

The Events & Fundraising Manager will work at the heart of our public events programme, helping to organise fundraising walks and other events across London and the South East, and raising funds to support the provision of free legal advice. Our events include the London Legal Walk -- an annual event which raises over £1 million each year -- regional Legal Walk events, and other fundraising events such as the Great Legal Quiz and the Great Legal Bake. LLST also purchases places for third party events such as the London Marathon, Brighton Marathon, and Big Half. We also raise money through individual and corporate donations.

The Events & Fundraising Manager's principal role is to manage these events and promote our fundraising in support of free legal advice charities in London and the South East. Your main duties and responsibilities will include the following:
