Job description

Are you passionate about using the power of words and solid design principles to inspire action? Do you have a track record of successful marketing for corporate fundraising at a charity or for B2B sales? We are looking for a brilliant Director of Communications and Development who will lead the charge of our ambitious Marketing and Communications Strategy.

The role offers a high level of flexibility and a chance to work within a truly innovative and dynamic non-profit organisation.

Job Title Director of Communications & Development

Salary - £45,000-49,000 FTE pro rata depending on the candidate

Hours - Between 28 hours (0.8 FTE) and 35 hours (1.0 FTE)

Location Fully remote working, with monthly in-person meetings in London.

Flexibility – We are committed to a healthy work-life balance and are truly flexible in our working culture. We will consider job share, compressed hours and flexible hours.

About Us

Raise Your Hands supports 16 exceptional small charities that improve the lives of children and young people across the UK. Since 2015, we've impacted 538,679 children and young people and aim to reach 1 million by 2030.

We innovate in the fundraising space by targeting donors typically out of reach for small charities, with a focus on corporate partnerships and pioneering events.

Unlike many grant makers, we actively fundraise ourselves, seeking out new and creative fundraising opportunities. We recently launched an innovation framework, leading to an exciting pipeline of new ideas.

We aim to produce communications that cut through and offer a fresh voice in the corporate and finance sectors.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Director of Communications and Development who will embrace non-traditional approaches and test new ideas. Drawing inspiration from both within and beyond the charity sector, you’ll take our Marketing strategy to the next level.

You’ll be part of a ‘department’ of two; working closely with a Communications Manager who will be supporting on content creation.

The role is suited to someone who understands how to make complex propositions engaging, what channel to use when and how to develop messaging that is compelling to niche audiences. This could suit someone used to leading on charity fundraising comms or running commercial B2B marketing.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy Development:

  • Lead and shape the messaging and brand development aligned with RYH's Strategic Plan.
  • Coordinate strategic content planning and campaign management.
  • Oversee digital assets, copy, design, and brand editorial.
  • Track and measure the effectiveness of marketing efforts to make data-driven decisions.

Digital Marketing and Campaign Management:

  • Execute and evolve the Corporate Marketing Plan.
  • Innovate and test multi-channel marketing strategies.
  • Manage a lean budget and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
  • Use ABM to identify high-value prospects and optimise targeted marketing efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Partnerships Manager on lead generation and donor stewardship.

Content Creation and Management:

  • Ensure consistent tone and messaging across all channels.
  • Oversee the production of engaging content, including articles, website updates, newsletters, social posts, pitch decks, and fundraising collateral.
  • Apply UX design principles and optimise content for SEO, social media, and donor conversion.

Fundraising Product Development:

  • Lead the testing of potential fundraising products, such as new events or stewardship packages.
  • Work with the Founder to pilot and assess the efficacy of prototypes.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Proven B2B marketing/communications experience in the commercial or charity sector.
  • Deep understanding of digital and content marketing, B2B, and ABM marketing.
  • Exceptional copywriting and design skills.
  • Strong CRM data management and analysis skills.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of SEO, PPC, email marketing, and social media optimization.
  • Project management and production skills.
  • Experience managing a lean department budget.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of the charity sector.
  • Experience with relationship-based fundraising, such as regular giving, philanthropy, and corporate partnerships.
  • UX design experience.
  • Experience managing a remote team.
  • Knowledge of data protection compliance and cybersecurity.
