Key Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver the charity's major donor programme, managing a portfolio of HNWIs giving at the 5-figure+ level.

Person Specification

• Proven experience in a philanthropy or major donor fundraising role, managing and securing gifts from HNWIs at the 4 or 5-figure level.
• Demonstrable success managing the full donor journey, from prospect research and pipeline development through to cultivation, solicitation and long-term stewardship.
• Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage, influence and inspire supporters and stakeholders at all levels.
• Strong written communication skills, with experience producing funding proposals, donor reports and tailored communications.
• Organised and proactive, with the ability to manage priorities while maintaining attention to detail.

The Senior Legal Counsel is the first port of call for colleagues putting together and advising on new legal arrangements and documenting our leading health partnerships and fundraising activities. The Senior Legal Counsel works with the Foundation’s Legal team in providing legal advice and guidance for the Foundation’s innovative, impact-led programmes and activities, supporting our fundraising team alongside our fundraising compliance manager, and our work with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. This role also assists with varied internal governance and compliance matters. 

Key Responsibilities 

Charitable Partnerships (Impact on Urban Health) 

• Identify relevant legal and compliance considerations on projects and activities within the IoUH team and work with IoUH to put in place appropriate mechanisms or policies to manage issues that are identified. 
• Structure and assist colleagues with drafting and negotiating agreements for a wide variety of charitable partnerships, including commercial contracts, grants, IP licences, novel investment models, revenue-sharing arrangements and data agreements. 
• Act as a thought partner with the team to advise on the structuring, legal risks and strategic implications of partnerships and future opportunities. 
• Maintain and appropriately file correspondence and documentation relating to commercial contracts. 

Fundraising (Charities)

• Drafting and supporting colleagues in negotiating a variety of fundraising agreements, including charity of the year agreements, commercial participation agreements, sponsorship agreements and pledge agreements.

• Work closely with our fundraising compliance manager to ensure data protection aspects of our fundraising activities are managed appropriately. 

Procedure and Policy Efficiencies

• Draft, maintain and update our internal guidelines, policies and standard-form documents.

• Act as deputy data protection lead, supporting the primary data protection lead through providing training to colleagues and ensuring the Foundation’s mandated practice is understood and followed. 

Tailored Partnerships 

• Consider legal considerations, and appropriate processes, for working with certain partners (e.g. regulatory, private gain, data protection, policy), including advising on due diligence procedures and tailoring our standard form templates. 
• Work with cross-functional stakeholders on longer-term projects to change our partnership models to cede power to the communities we work with, whilst balancing this against our charity law obligations. 

Cross-Functional Work 

• Work with cross-functional stakeholders, including Policy, Influencing & Communications, Data, Evaluation & Learning and the Executive Team to advise on cross-team collaboration, opportunities, issues and risks relating to our charitable partnerships. 
• Assist teams such as Endowment, Systems, and People & Culture on their legal needs, including drafting, negotiating and agreeing documents and being the first port-of-call for a variety of legal issues. 
• Lead on specific projects for either individual directorates or cross-directorate projects.

About you

Do you want to use your skills to make it possible for people with myeloma to live longer and better lives?  We are looking for a Support Group Co-ordinator who will deliver the Myeloma UK Support Group Partnership programme in line with the organisation’s overall strategy.

You will have experience of working with support groups and/or volunteer networks as well as recruiting, training, managing and supervising a diverse range of staff or volunteers.  The post holder will need to show clear evidence of relationship building and working with underrepresented groups.  A key part of the role is understanding the needs of cancer patients and their families and of health inequalities.

You’ll have excellent relationship building skills and an understanding of the barriers that exist in accessing support. You will need the ability to set priorities, work under pressure with great attention to detail and understand and meet the training and development needs of volunteers. Experience of working with haematology or oncology patients and working with a database would be an advantage but not essential.

About the role

The Support Group Co-ordinator will be the first point of contact within the organisation for all Support Group enquiries. You will coordinate the Support Groups Partnership Programme activity, including developing and promotion of the existing Myeloma Support Groups and coordinate the recruitment, induction and ongoing support of new local groups to the Support Groups Partnership Programme

You will be responsible for working with local groups and other local network partners to increase the reach and impact of Myeloma UK, ensuring that partnered support groups operate in line with Myeloma UK guidelines and ensure that they receive consistent information, training and advice.

The post holder will maintain an awareness and understanding of all legislation that may be relevant to the role and develop, maintain and evaluate a training programme for Support Group Leaders as well as moderate and update the Support Group Leaders’ online hub on a regular basis.  You will lead the Support Groups’ responsibility for designing and delivering activities in line with our Partnership Agreement so that they are safe, effective and impactful as well as moderate.

Role Overview

The Assistant Finance Manager supports the Deputy CEO in delivering a high-quality finance function. This role is integral to the day-to-day financial operations of the business, contributing to financial control, reporting, and analysis.  The role also involves supervising junior finance staff and deputising for the Deputy CEO where required.

Working closely with the Head of Partnerships and Fundraising, we’re looking for a Trusts and Foundations Manager to join our small team at a critical growth point to build and deliver a Trusts Fundraising Strategy (currently projected to generate c.£600K in 2027) laying the groundwork for long term, sustainable income generation as part of our wider Fundraising Strategy.

This is a new role for someone with substantial experience working in Trusts Fundraising, as well as strong project development skills, who can take our fledgling portfolio of funders and transform it into a pool of engaged supporters invested in MRF’s work in the long-term. You will have a demonstrable track record of securing five-six figure sums, the ability to create propositions in collaboration with programmatic colleagues, and the confidence to present compelling cases for support to a range of philanthropic organisations. You will also have excellent communication skills both written and verbal, a keen eye for connecting philanthropic organisations to the right projects to develop meaningful relationships, and the skills to deliver high-quality, detailed bids to further our strategic objectives.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a senior hands-on role accountable  to the Wolves Lane Consortium board who hold the 25-year lease for the Centre, and reporting to co-managing steward Ubele Initiative CIC whose investment has made this role possible and is the employing organisation.

This results-oriented role is pivotal to strengthening the Centre’s long-term financial resilience while maintaining its strong community ethos and aligning with the vision and mission.   This to be achieved through identifying, developing and securing new income streams and expanding existing to generate gross profit, to contribute to overall running costs, and to generate sufficient yield for Consortium’s reserves and on-going investment.

Income streams to include from business to business, and retail sales; from increasing venue hires and event revenues; expanding value-partnerships with different sectors, and joint ventures; and at all times ensuring robust financial and performance oversight.

The postholder will be required to develop an Income Generation Strategy for approval by the Board and will be responsible for all its commercial elements. You must be community and values-driven, outcome-focused, an inspiring and collaborative leader and manager, and motivated by the Consortium’s vision and mission, and those of its co-stewards OrganicLea CIC and Ubele CIC.At all times you will be an ambassador for the Centre.

CO-LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

Working on behalf of the Wolves Lane Consortium, informed fully by and reporting to co-stewards Ubele CIC, and sharing the leadership and management of the Centre with the Facilities & Operations Manager, together you will be relied upon for the Centre’s success in pursuing its strategic and annual plans, and in what it does and how it does it. 

The Facilities and Operations role is primarily to ensure the Centre is fit for all of its many different purposes; provides all users and visitors with a safe environment for their operations and activities, and a pleasant, rewarding, inspiring experience that results in return visits, longer dwell time.  And in so doing reaches and attracts new audiences and more custom.

The Community Enterprise role is predominantly outward facing - to create, attract and secure new and increased income streams through more sales of its products, services and offer; to co-create with entrepreneurs’ new community-based enterprise models and for joint ventures; to secure more investment from philanthropic and individual donations, and for funded programmes from new and existing partners.

These two distinct and overlapping roles will work collaboratively creating synergies to optimize the Centre’s income generating potential, the revenue and investment it secures, and at the same time increase its reputation, reach, and value as a vibrant community asset and contributor to community wealth building.

Together the two senior roles will deliver a seamless, compliant, and inspiring Centre offer, will co-lead and motivate the Centre team through a people management approach that fosters a culture of ambition, collaboration, care and success. Enterprise and business development

Develop and implement a Board approved 2-year enterprise and income generation strategy and action plan aligned with the Centre’s mission and that, Identify and secure new, and increase and expand existing, commercial and retail sales income for produce and plants grown at Wolves Lane Centre, Pasteur Gardens and other growing sites.

Develop and increase the Centre’s venue hires & events offer including markets;

Co-create and support new community-based enterprise models that can operate within and / or be part of Wolves Lane Consortium eco-system, with a particular focus on increasing representation of those from Black and Racially minoritised communities

Support the Facilities & Operations manager in the development of financially viable business cases for the cafeteria and the retail offer and  that contribute to Centre surpluses

Grow and diversify earned income streams to improve financial sustainability.

Monitor market trends and identify opportunities for innovation and growth.

Partnership development

Attract and build strong customer relationships with wholesalers, retailers, restaurants, concessions etc., and other businesses who will buy produce from Wolves Lane’s growing sites

Develop and maintain strong relationships with commerce to whom we will sell, community organisations, funders and public sector bodies and identify opportunities for sales and hires.

Act as an ambassador for the Centre, representing it at networking events and stakeholder meetings including the local Business Improvement District (BID).

Develop collaborative programmes and initiatives that enhance community impact and income potential and bring new communities onto our site.

Venue Hire and Events

Develop and implement a Board-approved Hires Policy, ensuring alignment with the Centre’s values as both a community and income-generating asset.

Working with key colleagues, maximise income from venue hire through proactive marketing and relationship management.

Oversee the planning and delivery of events that generate revenue and increase footfall

Ensure effective systems are in place for bookings, contracts, invoicing and customer service. Ensure effective use of the space-rental software, platforms, optimising functionality and user experience.

Ensure compliance with safeguarding requirements and GDPR.

Customer experience 

Jointly with the Centre’s Facilities & Operations manager set centre-wide customer and visitor service standards applicable to all areas, facilities and services, ensuring these comply with all regulatory and health & safety requirements, and are consistently applied and visible.

Financial management and budget oversight

Jointly with the Centre’s Facilities & Operations manager develop annual budget in collaboration with and for the approval of the Wolves Lane Board

Working with the finance team, monitor income and expenditure, producing regular financial reports and forecasts for the areas of responsibility.

Ensure financial controls and reporting processes are robust and transparent.

Oversee the development of funding applications and business cases to attract income and to generate a significant net contribution

Leadership & People Management

Across UHB Charity we are currently raising funds for a Total Body PET CT Scanner as well as our Children's and Newborn Appeals and Home from Home accommodation for civilians and military personnel, to name just a few.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Trusts & Foundations Manager role is a hybrid position for University Hospitals Birmingham Charity, which is the official charity of Good Hope Hospital, Heartlands Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and Solihull Hospital and Community Services.

The Trusts & Foundations Manager will work closely with other members of the hospital charity, providing support to the fundraising team and the Charity overall.

Working as part of a team, the person in this role will have specific responsibility for researching and applying to grant-making trusts and foundations and identifying where the work of the charity meets the application criteria. 

They will write or complete applications and build relationships with existing and potential funders. They will also be responsible for managing members of the team who are currently applying to Trusts and Foundations and supporting them with their applications. The Manager is also responsible for the Trusts and Foundations database and building on this. 

This role would suit an experienced fundraiser looking to move into a management role, or a Fundraising Manager looking for an exciting opportunity at a hospital charity.

MAIN DUTIES

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

• Research trusts, foundations, and grant funding bodies to identify those where the application criteria match elements of the work of University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) Charity.
• Prepare, write and submit a portfolio of persuasive Grant & Trust applications.
• Research and collate information and/or data required to make applications to trusts, foundations, and grant funding bodies, providing them with compelling cases of support.
• Establish and manage long term, effective and profitable relationships with existing and prospective funders by providing excellent donor and supporter care.
• Increase the pool of potential funders by using Trusts and Foundations sector knowledge and scoping of the funding landscape to identify new trust funders and increase opportunities for generating new income.
• Maintain and develop efficient ways of keeping trusts, foundations and grant funding bodies updated on the work of UHB Charity and the difference their support makes, to develop and maintain relationships and maximise short- and long-term support.

• Work to financial targets and undertake research as directed/agreed by the Director of Fundraising.
• Provide the Director of Fundraising with regular updates and monthly progress reports.

COMMUNICATION 

• Relaying accurate and timely information to the fundraising team, the Charity Chief Executive and Charity Trustees on a regular basis. Communicating with clinical and non-clinical staff within the hospital. Communicating with donors and fundraisers.
• Dealing with enquiries from the general public, disseminating information and ensuring that the appropriate action is taken, whilst maintaining the Charity’s policies and procedures.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ability to present oneself in a professional manner as a representative of the hospital and the charity.
• To maintain confidentiality in all aspects of duty, including fundraiser and donor data.
• To maintain an accurate effective database, recording essential information and providing statistical data in accordance with guidelines and policy using Raiser's Edge, Microsoft Office, Word and Access.

• To represent the Charity in a variety of different contexts and to a variety of different audiences.

• Ensure tax compliance across VAT, payroll and corporation tax returns.

Statutory Accounts

• Prepare annual statutory accounts (the financial section of the Annual Report).
• Review year-end working papers and analysis, responding to technical and judgement-based audit queries.

Business Partnering

• Act as finance business partner to senior budget holders and Leadership Team members.
• Set standards and frameworks for business partnering delivered by the Financial Controller.
• Meet regularly with senior budget holders to review financial performance, challenge assumptions and support decision-making.
• Lead complex financial analysis and provide advice to support departmental and project decisions.
• Provide financial input into organisational strategy, pricing and business development.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Qualified finance professional (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent)
• Proven experience in leading the delivery of high-quality management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis to support organisational decision-making
• Strong governance and financial control mindset, and proficiency in developing, maintaining and improving financial systems, policies and processes
• Effective business partnering and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credible relationships and provide professional financial advice to senior budget holders and the Leadership Team
• Sound knowledge of statutory financial reporting, external audit processes and tax compliance requirements
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and confidently to a range of audiences
• Exceptional organisational skills, demonstrating strong attention to detail while effectively managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines

Role Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement supporter engagement strategies that enhance participation and reinforce the organisation’s values.
• Develop compelling communications and initiatives to motivate supporters and encourage ongoing involvement.
• Monitor and evaluate engagement levels, using insights to optimise strategies and increase supporter satisfaction.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure campaigns align with organisational goals and branding.
• Organise events and activities that strengthen supporter communities and improve retention.
• Maintain accurate records of supporter interactions and engagement metrics to inform future efforts.

Person Specification

• Proven experience in supporter or donor engagement, relationship management, or similar roles within the charitable or non-profit sector.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences.
• Strong organisational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
• Analytical mindset, comfortable interpreting data to inform engagement strategies.
• Ability to work collaboratively across teams and build positive relationships internally and externally.
• Self-motivated, with a proactive approach to developing innovative supporter engagement approaches.
