Job description

We are looking for an experienced Restorative Justice Practitioner to join our Restorative Justice team on a hybrid basis working both at home and from our office in London. This role requires travel across London and the wider prison estate.

About the Role

As a Restorative Justice Practitioner, you will deliver and raise the profile of Restorative Justice (RJ) services across London within the VS framework of best practice principles and Restorative Justice Council Code of Practice and Quality Standards. You will ensure the provision of RJ interventions and effective assessment and facilitation of each stage of the restorative process.

Key Responsibilities:

To make initial contact with service users, explaining our services and assessing consent to engage in RJ, explaining options available and ongoing case management.

To develop, deliver, and monitor safety and support plans for those affected by crime, who consent and wish to engage with Restorative Justice. Support will include providing resources, interventions, and information to all service users.

In order to:

  • Support those affected by crime in understanding and asserting their rights and entitlements under the Victims Code of Practice
  • Facilitate access to additional services
  • Establish healthy coping mechanisms
  • Provide practical support and information


RJ Practitioners may, in some services, be responsible for elements of volunteer management. This may include the development and case management oversight of a cohort of volunteers who will contribute to the service, in line with VS policies, volunteering ethos and approach, and the Restorative Justice Council Code of Practice and Quality Standards.

About You

Ideally, you will have:

  • Experience of the delivery of Restorative Justice practice including direct and indirect processes
  • Completed accredited RJ Facilitation training and Serious and Complex Case training
  • Experience of outcome focused working


You will need to:

  • Demonstrate a good command of the English language both verbally and in writing
  • Have a good understanding of Restorative Justice
  • Have a clear understanding of the criminal justice journey of both Victims and Offenders
  • Have the ability to assess, update and mitigate risk including risk information held by partner agencies
  • Have effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Understand Safeguarding issues, and the legal responsibilities surrounding these issues
  • Maintain professional boundaries
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the requirement for confidentiality and safe working practices, maintaining records in accordance with the Data Protection Act and other legal requirements
  • Have experience of working within a multi-agency and legislative framework
  • Have experience of managing a complex caseload, to prioritise work and deal with competing demands demonstrating an organised and methodical approach to work
  • Experience of delivering training or presenting
  • Experience of delivery of Restorative Justice practice including direct and indirect processes
  • Have strong communication, negotiation and advisory skills, both written and verbal when interacting with a range of agencies and individuals
  • Understand and be committed to equal opportunities and diversity and inclusion issues in policy and practice
  • Demonstrate the ability to use IT applications competently including, Microsoft Word, Excel etc. and Case Management systems in order to keep accurate records and monitoring your performance
