Job Title: Development Officer
Reports to: Senior Development Manager

Purpose of the Role
The fundraising team at Breaking Barriers generates income from a range of sources: trusts and foundations, statutory and lottery, corporate and major donors. We sit within the wider Income and Engagement Directorate, alongside communications and public fundraising, and work closely together to drive income and engagement from funders, partners and supporters who share our vision that every refugee can access meaningful employment and build a new life.
The Development Officer manages our portfolio of small trusts and foundations (grants up to £10,000), securing income and developing relationships from existing donors and new prospects. The role involves writing compelling funding proposals, delivering effective stewardship, and meeting all reporting requirements to a high standard.
Alongside portfolio management, the post-holder co-ordinates our fundraising events programme, ensuring both online and in-person events deepen engagement with our cause. The role also provides active support across fundraising appeals and the statutory, lottery and major donor income streams, including prospect research. The post-holder will also contribute to the operational efficiency of the fundraising team through effective administration.
This is a varied, fast-paced role that will suit someone with strong writing skills, attention to detail and a genuine commitment to our mission. It offers real scope to develop knowledge and skills across a wide range of fundraising disciplines within a supportive and ambitious team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Income generation (60%)
· Manage and develop a portfolio of trusts and foundations awarding grants of up to £10,000, delivering tailored stewardship and relationship management across both warm relationships and cold prospects.
· Plan, write and submit compelling funding applications based on a clear understanding of Breaking Barriers' programmes, funding needs and funder requirements.
· Manage all reporting requirements within your portfolio, ensuring reports are completed accurately and to deadline.
· Undertake research to identify new prospects, gathering relevant background information including funding interests, grant levels and connection points with Breaking Barriers.
· Ensure all income and pipeline activity is accurately recorded and kept up to date in Salesforce.
· Act as the philanthropy lead for the Big Give Challenge Appeal.
2. Fundraising Events and Stewardship (20%)
· Co-ordinate Breaking Barriers' fundraising events programme, working across the fundraising team and wider Income and Engagement Directorate to shape a calendar that inspires and engages funders, supporters and senior volunteers.
· Manage event logistics including venue sourcing, guest list coordination, on-the-day support and follow-up.
· Lead on the development of stewardship materials for philanthropy audiences, including impact updates, newsletters and event collateral.
3. Prospect Research and Fundraising Administration (15%)
· Carry out prospect research to support the major gifts, statutory and lottery fundraising pipelines, producing clear, well-structured briefings for senior colleagues.
· Build and maintain funder profiles, recording prospect activity, research findings and pipeline information accurately in Salesforce.
· Support colleagues in the finance team with gift administration and thanking processes.
· Contribute to the directorate's approach to data quality and CRM best practice.
4. Other Responsibilities (5%)
· Participate in cross-team projects to build a thorough understanding of Breaking Barriers' work and wider activities.
· Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required within the scope of this role.

Person Specification
Essential
· Demonstrable knowledge of and/or interest in the refugee or employment sectors.
· Experience of writing compelling funding proposals or other relevant persuasive content for different audiences.
· Understanding of the principles of trusts and foundations fundraising, whether through direct experience or study.
· Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesise information and present it clearly.
· Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Data and Insights Officer to join our Impact and Evaluation team and shape how data is used at Chance to Shine. CSAN is the official agency of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice affecting people who live in England and Wales. We’re facing a steep rise in poverty and significant pressures on social, economic and church resources. Currently, the Church is called to raise a prophetic voice against poverty and the rhetoric of division and work for the building of a more just society.
Over the last 20 years, CSAN has built up a network of 50 diocesan and direct service charities with a combined annual spend on social mission estimated at £400m, excluding the work of schools and religious congregations. Our members build up local community life in diverse ways, and many of them support individuals in difficulty, including with housing, prison and detention, social isolation, ill-health, violence, disability, employment, care, therapeutic and welfare support.
The key responsibilities of the post are:
1. To scan the social policy environment to capture developments in legislation, consultation papers and Bills relevant to the Caritas network for the purpose of comprehensive tracking and briefing.
2. To deliver an effective programme of Catholic advocacy and political campaigns that contributes to the common good, with particular attention to the priorities of the dignity of workers, child poverty, social care and end of life; supporting and connecting well with the team’s other activities, and where possible with the CSAN membership’s priorities,
3. To draft campaign and advocacy materials for the range of media channels used by CSAN and support the CEO in engaging with the press and approaches from campaigning organisations including contributing to CSAN’s social media networks.
4. To provide admin support and contribute to CSAN’s Alliances as required, especially the Advocacy Alliance and the Criminal Justice Alliance with information and education on policy and legislation.
5. To ensure that our advocacy is consistent with the Bishops’ understanding of the Church’s role in society and supports the priorities of the Bishops’ Conference, especially the Department for Social Justice.
6. To act as a conduit of information and communication between the Bishops’ Conference and the CSAN members, under the guidance of the CEO, assisting CBCEW where possible in gathering information and the lived experience of poverty.
7. To develop and contribute to practice materials for the network, especially in the areas of campaigning, advocacy, social policy and formation for mission.
8. To oversee monitoring of the Catholic press and relevant wider networks for relevant articles, developments and campaigns.
9. To support the general work of CSAN as required by the CEO, including leading in the development and organisation of the charity in specific areas subject to skills and experience.
The work of the small national team requires a high level of integrity and teamwork, respect for and capacity to navigate complex civil and church contexts at pace, and a stable commitment to personal formation and training. Our Policy and Public Affairs Officer (maternity leave) will bring a professional track record of relevant research and analysis, production of compelling communications, and diligent administration. Purpose of the job
The Operations Officer provides vital administrative and operational support across UK Youth, helping ensure our people, systems, and workplaces are set up for success. Key responsibilities
IT & Systems
Manage the day-to-day relationship with our IT support partner, including monitoring support tickets, approving change requests, and escalating issues to the Head of Operations where required.
Support the maintenance and monitoring of IT equipment in collaboration with our IT Support Partner
Maintain our IT asset register; be responsible for ensuring all IT equipment is accounted for and organising its safe distribution.
Maintain and improve UK Youth’s SharePoint and MS Teams sites and channels, ensuring efficient organisation, accessibility of information and compliance with information and data protection policies
Support operational improvement projects, including process automation e.g., use of Microsoft Forms and Power Automate to streamline and automate internal workflows such as onboarding, approvals, and data collection.
Office Management
Serve as the primary point of contact for all London office facility needs, liaising with landlords, contractors, suppliers, and cleaners to ensure the workspace remains safe, functional, and well maintained.
Manage staff building access and oversee the use of UK Youth’s storage facility, ensuring secure and efficient use of space.
Manage and maintain the room booking systems, ensuring availability, access, and efficient use of meeting spaces.
Manage departmental shared inboxes, general phone lines and post, ensuring timely and helpful responses.
Coordinate purchasing and maintenance of office supplies and equipment, ensuring value for money and timely delivery.
Health & Safety
Act as the main contact for Health & Safety within our London office, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
Coordinate H&S inductions and site orientations for all new starters and maintain risk assessments, compliance logs, and required documentation.
Maintain UK Youth’s risk assessment log and review schedule
Support the collection, tracking, and reporting of organisational H&S compliance data, contributing operational reporting.
Contribute to the development and documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), templates, and internal process playbooks.
Team Support
Provide day-to-day administrative and coordination support to the People and Operations Team.
Maintain departmental calendar, schedule meetings, and coordinate agendas, papers, and minutes.
Lead logistics for key organisation-wide events such as our quarterly Town Halls.
Experience we're after

Experience required
