Job description

At the Centre for Ageing Better we want everyone to enjoy later life. We create change in policy and practice informed by evidence and work with partners across England to improve employment, housing, health and communities. We are a charitable foundation, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, and part of the government’s What Works Network.

The UK Network of Age-friendly Communities is a growing movement with over 40 member places, from rural towns to city regions. You will be joining us at an exciting point in the network’s history, when we are ready to grow it across the country so that more people can live in places where they will enjoy their later life.

Alongside growing the network you will inspire, connect and support network members using a range of engaging and creative methods including:

  • Documenting and sharing the age-friendly work of network members
  • Developing online and offline resources such as blogs, case studies, toolkits, etc
  • The design and delivery of training, events, and workshops
  • Facilitating connections, information flow and exchange between members
  • Supporting new and existing members of the network to join and make progress

The successful candidate will have outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills. You will have demonstrated your ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of people through success in running a network, community of practice or similar learning group. Network members primarily come from local government, and it will be important that you understand this world and how change happens in this context. You will need the ability to spot a story and connect people across topics, with an eye for detail so that the network functions as effectively as possible.

With a base in London, the role will involve significant travel across the UK. In light of COVID-19 regulations we are operating on a work from home basis, with no UK travel. While we are continually reviewing our working arrangements, we anticipate this will continue in the short to medium term.

To apply please send a CV and a covering letter responding in detail to the job description and addressing how you meet the criteria for the role and the Equality and Diversity form

The closing date is 5pm Thursday 17 December, with interviews to take place week commencing Monday 4 January.

We very much welcome applications from people with Black, Asian, minority ethnic backgrounds, disabled people and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

We will review applications on an ongoing basis so the role may close before the closing date.
