About the Role

• You will have substantive experience in providing immigration advice and casework, with the relevant Level 2 OISC qualification (or OISC level 1 working towards Level 2). Please note only candidates with the relevant OISC qualification and legal experience will be considered.
• You will be part of a specialist team that provides a migration service within a centre for people experiencing homelessness and interconnecting needs.
• You will have experience of working jointly with other agencies and building strong, effective partnerships internally and externally.

About the role:

This role involves both face to face and virtual support in a hybrid model of working. There is an expectation that you will do a mixture of working from home, our office near Old Street and in co-location at Kings College Hospital. You will:

• Implement effective ways of working with victims to increase safety & reduce harm
• Provide a high-quality, front-line service to victims of domestic abuse
• Work within a multi-agency framework consisting of the MARAC and local partnership responses to domestic abuse
• Run group training sessions & share your specialist knowledge with acute staff across the hospital

About the role:

This role is a hybrid working role based in the Housing department, Merton Civic Centre.

As an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate you will:

• Implement effective ways of working with victims and those supporting them to increase safety and reduce harm.
• Provide a high-quality, front-line service to victims of domestic abuse, delivering a premium service prioritised according to risk, primarily focusing on victim/survivors aged 16+
• Work within a multi-agency framework consisting of the MARAC and local partnership responses to domestic abuse to keep safety central to all services for victims of domestic abuse.

You will need:

• Have a knowledge of help-seeking barriers and support needs of victims of domestic abuse (in heterosexual or same-sex relationships).
• Have a good understanding of domestic abuse including the impact of domestic abuse on victims and their children.
• Understand the principles of risk assessment, safety planning and risk management for victims of domestic abuse and their children
• Understand safeguarding issues, and the legal responsibilities surrounding these issues.
• Direct service delivery to victims of domestic abuse or other vulnerable people.
• Have excellent communication, negotiation and advocacy skills, both written and verbal when interacting with a range of agencies and individuals. Understand and be committed to equal opportunities and diversity issues in policy and practice.
• Have a strong crisis management skills and the ability to deal with stressful and difficult situations.

A key component of this is the Network Quality & Compliance Team, which oversees Age UK's Quality Assurance Framework of quality standards, assessments, and processes for dealing with non-compliance.

We have an exciting part-time opportunity for a Service Quality Adviser to join our Network Quality & Compliance Team. This role is part of the team that supports Age UK and its network of local and national partners to provide consistent, high-quality services to the public. The team is responsible for ensuring that training and guidance is available on how to run high quality services and supports individual network members with quality challenges and non-compliance.

The provision of Information and Advice (I&A) and our quality standards for these services, are a key element of this role. The successful post holder will have demonstrable experience of managing or supervising an I&A service and ideally, a broader understanding or experience of quality assurance and delivering services to older people.

This is a part-time, home-based opportunity, working 21 hours per week. Salary advertised is FTE. (Actual salary range for 21 hours per week - Actual £20,406 - £22,554)

You will provide support to our Cost-of-Living Crisis Clinic Consultant to co-ordinate the efficient service delivery of our busy Cost-of-Living Crisis Clinics, used by clients who need assistance to make successful applications for: welfare benefits; social housing; lower utility and broadband tariffs; and crisis and general grants.   You will work with a wide range of people internally and externally, providing support and supervision to volunteer advisers and helping clients.

You will be a confident communicator who will have the right blend and balance of strong administration skills with excellent interpersonal and customer-facing skills and legal knowledge, working for a charity supporting and enhancing the lives of people in the local community.

This role is central to Westway Trust’s commitment to deliver activities and events to the benefit of the North Kensington community. You will also work from and help to co-ordinate the delivery of our Cost-of-Living Crisis Clinic at our outreach site, St Luke’s Community Centre, EC1V.

Key responsibilities of the role include but not limited to:

General Duties

• Being the initial point of contact; receiving calls and emails from clients and referring agencies, , and booking client appointments in an efficient and timely manner
• Setting up and clearing away after Cost-of-Living Crisis Clinic sessions, (currently, Tuesdays, at St Luke’s Community Centre, 90 Central Street, Islington, EC1, and Wednesdays at Westway Trust, 1 Thorpe Close, Ladbroke Grove, W10).  Sessions start at 9.00am and finish around 1.00pm
• Meeting, greeting and orienting (showing where the facilities are and H&S guidance) clients and volunteers
• Triaging clients on to our database and referring clients who are out of scope to other relevant organisations
• Assisting clients to complete online and paper forms both face-to-face and remotely
• Liaising in a positive manner with our stakeholders, eg. clients, other teams within Westway Trust, our funder, a City Law firm, and our hosts, Westway Trust and St Luke’s Community Centre
• Responsibility for monitoring our work, completing simple reports, writing case studies, making sure volunteers complete their data entry after advising clients, and running case management statistics using AdvicePro, our case management system) (training on AdvicePro will be provided)
• Recruiting, inducting, training and supervising volunteers both corporate (from the City) and lay (students and local residents)
• Casework; writing up case notes about clients helped
• Attending relevant meetings and training and keeping resources up-to-date
• General administration including: photocopying, scanning and record keeping, and coordinating the general day-to-day activities of the Cost-of-Living Crisis Clinics
• Effectively contributing to make our Cost-of-Living Crisis Clinics high performing in line with the values of Westway Trust

Appeals & Representation Duties

Responsibility for our legal appeals representation service, including:

• Triaging clients, including reading appellant’s hearing bundles to assess the merits of their case
• Case management of appellants’' appeal cases, (ie, smooth management of appellants' cases from inception to post-hearing)
• Attending hearings
• Guiding and case managing lawyers/law students on applications for leave to appeal/set aside to the Upper Tribunal/Judiciary, (from the Lower Tribunal).  Full training will be given

Qualifications: You will have or be working towards a law degree or equivalent. 

Knowledge and Experience:

• A good understanding of the law in any jurisdiction
• Experience of providing an efficient, customer focused service, with a personable and collaborative approach and ability to provide, develop and maintaining friendly positive relationships with customers, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders

This role is an opportunity for a Paralegal to join a large in-house legal team and work on a broad range of matters. It will specifically involve supporting the Agreements, Information and Disputes (AID) team within legal services, consisting of five lawyers.

The successful candidate will be required to work across areas of law including but not limited to information law, contracts, intellectual property, procurement, subsidy and state aid, insolvency, recoveries and public law. The bulk of the Paralegal’s workload will consist of legal support work however the candidate will also be expected to perform some administrative tasks and cover for the team’s administrative officer when required.

Experience working in a fast paced in-house or private practice environment would be ideal with legal research and IT literacy an advantage. Knowledge of insolvency and debt recovery would be desirable.

The Role

We are seeking a talented and experienced HR Adviser with a strong focus on policy development for a fixed-term period to update and develop B Lab UK’s policies to align with our values and culture, guide our employees and ensure a harmonious and productive work environment. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in creating and updating company policies, complying with relevant regulations, and ensuring the overall success of the organisation. 

What you will be doing

Policy Review and Improvement:

• Conduct a review of existing policies to identify areas for improvement and upcoming legal changes, implementing required changes 

• Review current policies with a JEDI lens (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion), implementing required changes

Policy Development:

• Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop, and implement HR policies and procedures that align with both the business and cultural needs of B Lab UK

• Create policy documents that are easily used by all employees, encompassing company culture

• Create clear manager guides for implementing policies

Training and Education:

• Effectively communicate policy changes, ensuring employees are aware of updates and understand the implications

The ideal candidate will have responsibilities that include monitoring compliance with MAP’s financial and procurement policies, developing strong cash and treasury management policies, and managing financial accounting systems. You will also ensure timely and accurate preparation of annual statutory accounts, compliance with relevant accounting and legal requirements, and submission of necessary returns to regulatory bodies. 

Duties and key responsibilities 

Leadership, Collaboration & Line Management 

• Support the Director of Operations through preparation for and reporting to governance meetings. 

• Participate actively as a member of the Leadership Team. 

• Provide leadership, direction, training, and motivation as appropriate to the UK Finance Manager, and the overseas Finance Managers in conjunction with overseas Directors. 

Finance Policy & Process Management 

• Be responsible for monitoring compliance with MAP’s financial and procurement policies and review and update these policies on a regular basis. 

• Develop and implement strong cash and treasury management policies and procedures. 

• Manage and develop all financial accounting systems in consultation with the Head of Reporting to ensure they are fit for purpose. 

• Help to ensure value for money and the effective use of funds across the organisation. 

Compliance & Regulatory Reporting 

• Manage the ongoing relationships with the external auditors. 

• Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of the annual statutory accounts for the annual audit and implement recommendations from the auditors and/or Board. 

• Monitor institutional income and related contracts and ensure that all restricted income, including Zakat, is properly accounted for. 

• Ensure the financial management of MAP is compliant with relevant accounting, legal, HMRC and tax requirements, including VAT and corporation tax, and that the correct returns are made. 

• Submit the necessary returns and maintain our records with the Charity Commission and Companies House on a timely basis.

Cashflow & Bank Account Management 

• Manage the ongoing relationships with MAP’s banks in the UK. 

• Maintain UK bank accounts and ensure financial governance is in place for overseas bank accounts.

• Ensure bank mandates and online banking operations are reviewed and updated on time. 

• Monitor and manage the organisation's cash flow to ensure there are sufficient currency funds to meet operational needs. 

• Review fund and payment  requests from overseas offices and that planned activities are within budget. 

• Release all payments from UK bank accounts, including UK payroll. 

Financial Controls 

• Implement appropriate internal controls, policies, and procedures to protect against fraud and misappropriation. 

• Oversee and manage all payroll budgets and forecasts. 

• Oversee the payroll functions, ensuring adequate internal controls and approvals are in place and adhered to, and all statutory requirements are met. 

• Ensure regular reconciliations are made between the accounting system and the CRM. 

• Oversee legacy administration liaising with the Legacy Advisor. 

Risk Management 

• Risk management – manage strategic and operational financial risks working with the Head of Internal Audit & Compliance.

• Maintain insurance policies across all MAP offices to ensure appropriate and adequate risk mitigation and meet statutory requirements. 

Person Specification 

Experience 

• Extensive experience in a finance leadership role within a complex charitable organisation, working internationally. 

• Experience of UK charity finance practice and governance - UK Charities SORP FRS 102. 

• Excellent technical knowledge and skills in accountancy principles, governance, and standards, including preparation of statutory accounts. 

• Successful track record of managing financial systems, and cashflow.
