ABOUT GET FURTHER

Get Further is the first charity dedicated to providing high-quality tuition to students facing challenges in further education, adult education, and the apprenticeship sector. We aim to transform the experience of these students, helping them to build their skills and realise their aspirations for education and work.

Every year, 200,000 children – disproportionately from disadvantaged backgrounds – do not achieve the expected standard in crucial English and maths qualifications while at school, locking them out of many university courses, apprenticeships, and key professions.

Twice as many disadvantaged 16- to 18-year-olds go to further education colleges than school sixth forms, and yet for too long, the needs of students in further education have not taken centre stage in education policy or funding. We work in partnership with further education providers to prove that, when given the means, all young people can build the skills needed to progress in education and work.

TRUSTEE SPECIFICATIONS AND COMMITMENT

We are looking to recruit a trustee who has expertise and skills in one or more of the following key areas:

• Further Education (teaching/leadership/policy)
• Apprenticeship Sector
• Fundraising
• Legal, including charity law
•  Impact and Evaluation (including experience of large-scale evaluation and/or RCTs)

• Commitment to Get Further’s mission and values, including passionate about tackling educational inequality.
• Financial qualifications and experience within a charity, not for profit or business in a senior financial role.
• Proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders.
• Analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement.
• Understanding/willingness to learn and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
• Good communication and leadership skills.
• Creative thinking, especially in ensuring equality, diversity and inclusion considerations are part of the charity’s decision making and strategy.

TRUSTEE COMMITMENT

• The term of a board member is an initial three years.
• Expectation to attend all quarterly board meetings, as well as sub-committee meetings and ad hoc Get Further events, which may involve speaking engagements for example, student alumni events or tutor training.
• Training and support are available, and each new trustee will receive a full induction.

About Saint Francis Hospice

Saint Francis Hospice is the main local provider of hospice care. The hospice has 18 specialist palliative care beds on its Ward within the Hospice. It also has an active well-being and day therapy service which provides one-to-one clinical and therapy appointments, as well as group wellbeing activities. 85% of our care is undertaken within the community.

These services are for anyone affected by advanced, progressive disease living in any of our catchment boroughs as shown on our map below. All areas are also covered by our hospice 24-hour Specialist Advice Line and by our Hospice at Home team; a team particularly supporting family and friends, and carers in the last few weeks of life.

We have a range of Well-being services including Bereavement Support for adults and Children, and our Orangeline support services for people in need of support during times of loneliness and loss.

The hospice is also the provider of specialist community and crisis support to people at home and in care homes in Barking & Dagenham, Havering and South West Essex, via a nurse-led specialist team. In Redbridge, that community specialist support is provided by the NHS and other care partners. Partnerships between our local Hospital Trusts and the hospice are well established including in the areas of end of life care services, education, out-of-hours consultant cover, shared cover for senior doctors between hospice and hospital and widening access to specialist palliative care services.

The hospice has an Education Centre on site offering a range of bespoke training and development opportunities for our staff and partner organisations. We offer junior doctor training and work closely with Southbank University providing BSc and MSc Palliative care programmes.

Our care strategy focuses on meeting growing demand whilst still delivering care tailored to each individual. It also includes an emphasis on the teaching, training and support of family, friends and our health and care partners and providers.

Mynshull’s Educational Foundation is committed to improving the life-chances of young people from Manchester and Salford, so they can grow up to fulfil their potential. Through the provision of small grants, we aim to reduce the barriers that young people face to education, skills and training.

We provide funding for young people aged 25 or under to help them obtain equipment, uniforms or experiences that support them in starting or continuing their education or training.  Some examples include grants towards the cost of school trips and residentials, text books, stationery, apprenticeship equipment such as tools, and musical instruments.

We are currently recruiting for trustees to join our board.  The right candidate will understand the challenges faced by young people in Manchester and Salford; this may be through their own lived experiences or through professional experience, for example in education or health and social care.  The successful candidate will be passionate about improving outcomes for young people.  Previous experience of being a trustee is not essential to this role.

Great Yarmouth Pathway is a transforming place of light, love & engagement for the community of Great Yarmouth supporting those in need. We are seeking to recruit Trustees with an interest in helping others, who are willing to uphold our values, and who can bring life experience to the board of trustees. Trustees have collective responsibility for the governance of the organisation and for all decisions made by the Board. Role description:

We’re looking for someone with experience of working as a chairperson to join us as our Chair of Trustees, to help provide excellent leadership and ensure that everyone remains focused on the delivery of the organisation’s charitable purposes.

About YBTC:

Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity began in 2003. It was originally named ‘Andrea’s Gift’, set-up in memory of Andrea Key, who died from a brain tumour aged 42.  Our vision is to cure a devastating disease that affects so many people, of all ages and background. Whilst we’re working to find a cure, we provide the best patient and family support network we can. We fund dedicated research projects across Yorkshire into treating and curing child and adult brain tumours to try to change those statistics for the better. At the same time, we support patients, carers and their loved ones who are impacted by this devastating disease now through our specialist support services.

Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour is currently unincorporated. We are currently undergoing the process of moving the charity structure to a CIO, which will provide limited liability for Trustees to third parties. This process will take approximately 6 months to complete, and our current reserves policy is to cover 6 months of expenditure.

We are looking for one/two trustees to join our diverse Board of Governors (the “ Board”) here at International Students House (ISH).

What will you be doing?

ISH is looking for three trustees to join the Board of Governors (the “ Board”).  We are looking for individuals who have experience in the private, public, or charitable sector and who can bring their entrepreneurial, management, and governance skills to assist the charity in delivering its mission.  This is an exciting time to join the Board of a dynamic and friendly organisation.

What difference will you make?

The statutory duties of a trustee are to:

• Work with fellow Board members and SMT in setting the Charity’s strategic aims, ensuring that the necessary financial and other resources are in place for ISH to meet its objectives and review performance management.
• Provide leadership to the Charity within a framework of prudent and effective controls, which enable risks to be assessed and managed.
• Comply with its governing document, charity law, company law and all other relevant law, legislation and/or regulations;

• Pursue its objectives as defined in its governing document;
• Use its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives, and in doing so fulfils its purpose for the benefit of the public;
• Maintain proper systems, procedures and controls and that they are kept under regular review.
• Safeguard the good name and values of the ISH; and
• Appoint the CEO and monitor their performance

Share Psychotherapy is a long-standing psychotherapy charity providing long term, low cost therapy. We specifically aim to help people who cannot afford or cannot access therapy elsewhere. We are especially interested in hearing from people with clinical, therapeutic or safeguarding experience but are looking for people with experience & skills in any of the following:

• Fundraising 
• Service user involvement 
• Web design and digital marketing
• Management and business systems
• Clinical management - especially in mental health
• High-level psychotherapeutic skills and experience
• Accounting, Budget Management & Financial Risk management  

Share Psychotherapy is one of Sheffield’s leading mental health charities. Established for over 40 years we offer medium to long term therapy at nominal fees, primarily to people on low incomes. This therapy is delivered through a range of psychodynamic & creative modalities. We therefore work at the vital intersection of psychological distress & poverty in the city, providing high quality, long term therapy to people who could not otherwise obtain such help, especially those on low incomes. 

Our clients are often experiencing serious mental and emotional distress, through anxiety, depression, difficulty with relationships or traumatic life events.

We are part way through a change process at Share - developing and strengthening our clinical services, improving our administrative and business systems and strengthening our financial position. We want to build upon our position as a centre of excellence in psychotherapy and make an even bigger contribution to improving mental health in Sheffield.

Would you like to help us in this venture? We are looking for people with specialist skills who are willing to help in a voluntary capacity; either as a trustee on our board, or as a specialist volunteer contributing on a project basis. We are willing to consider a wide range of contributions.
