ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a compassionate Children and Family Worker to support mothers and children at Penrose Women's Refuge in West London. You will provide trauma-informed care, fostering a safe and nurturing environment for families to heal and thrive.
Your role includes facilitating family activities, offering parenting guidance, supporting children’s education, and working closely with mums and external agencies to deliver holistic support. By empowering families to rebuild relationships and overcome challenges, you’ll help them achieve stability and independence. Someone who worked in a primary school or Education might be a good fit for this type of role. Due to the nature of the service, the postcode has been removed; however, the service is based in West London.
Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week - Early: 7:30am - 3:30pm, Late: 11:30pm - 7:30am, Day: 9:00am - 5:00pm 1 Saturday per month on site.
Salary: £26,155

Who are we?
St. John's is a non-maintained specialist provision, working with autistic people, the majority of whom also have learning disabilities. Some of our learners have co-occurring conditions such as epilepsy, hearing or visual impairments, or mental health needs. We also support autistic learners who have an additional profile of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) syndrome. We have a team built up of support workers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, nurses, PBS practitioners, assistant psychologists, and more, to support us in our holistic approach to development.

We believe the only way we can achieve these changes is by building a movement of those directly affected by the problem to challenge the power of the pharmaceutical and health industries. We have a track record of high impact campaigns that have changed the lives of the people we work with, and thousands of NHS patients, by forcing corporations and politicians to move.
Our approach is centred on deep organising with a cohort of patient leaders who have been directly impacted by the health injustices on which we campaign. This group steer and lead our campaigns, but are supported by a much larger group of volunteers and supporters. This role will be focused on our campaign strand around the crisis in young people’s mental health, focused on the role that late-stage capitalism is having on both the drivers of poor mental health, mental illness, and madness, and the ineffective responses to this crisis.

Pathfinder is commissioned to meet the ongoing support needs of people with mental health difficulties who do not require support from specialist NHS mental health services. Strong support to GPs and primary care services is therefore vital to ensure that patients can effectively access Pathfinder support.
Your role as Mental Health Support Coordinator is to provide support to GP practices in Horsham to effectively meet the needs of their patients who have mental health problems through the provision of direct phone, video-call and face-to-face support and by supporting these patients to access and engage with community support, particularly Pathfinder services.
Any formal qualification or training in relation to mental health, counselling or working with people with mental health problems is highly desirable for the role.

This will be a residential support service for young people aged 16-24 years at risk of serious youth violence, who are already caught up in the criminal justice system and at high risk of remaining part of the system. You will be working across three London properties alongside a large multi-agency staff team made up of experts by experience/profession in psychology and therapy; youth work; offending; education, training, and employment (ETE) and housing. The service will work creatively and holistically to enable young people to exit environments involving youth violence, identify and reach their goals and aspirations, move on successfully to appropriate independent living, and importantly to sustain this life. Wherever possible staff and young people will co-produce what this service looks like and what activities the young people engage in.

The position is a dual role. You’ll join as one of two dedicated Youth Workers and will lead on a portion of Free to Be Kids’ year-round follow-on support for vulnerable young people who we have already engaged via our Thrive Outside residentials. Crucially, a core aspect of the role will be leading an average of 8-10 of our residential projects across each year - working on the ground with the children, leading the volunteers, and helping make the projects special, safe, and transformative for vulnerable young people, many of whom have complex needs. You’ll be joining a small staff team of 8, supplemented by a vibrant and committed group of volunteers.
Attendance at approximately 8-10 five-six night residential projects per year outside London is a core component of this role.
On offer to the right candidate:
Salary: Circa £29,000-£34,000, dependent on experience.
Hours: Fulltime: 37.5 hours per week. Essential attendance on at c.8-10 residential projects a year.
Leave: 25 days per year, plus bank holidays and up to 13 additional pre-set discretionary reward days in September and during the Christmas period.

Ideally, you’ll also have experience of leading projects for children – whether residential or non-residential. Experience of working on or leading residentials projects themselves is not required but may be an advantage.

This specific role involves providing holistic support to patients suffering from a serious mental illness or SMI (Serious Mental Illness).
