Job Title: Policy and Public Affairs Officer

Location: Home Based with occasional travel to the London office

Contract: Permanent, Full Time 35 hours or part time options considered (3 days 21 hours or 4 days 28 hours or a job share)

Salary: £27,365 - £28,750 per annum plus Regional Weighting (up to £4,454 in London) and £600 home working allowance

Benefits: 20 days of annual leave, increasing by a day each year (to a maximum of 5 additional days) plus 3 days leave between Christmas and New Year, home working allowance, 6% pension contribution plan, two days volunteering days per year, season ticket and bicycle loan scheme

The Role

To support our policy and public affairs (P&PA) activities; so AdviceUK has a strong voice and our messages are heard at a national and regional level across England, Scotland and Wales; all so we can secure policy, funding and system change to benefit people seeking advice and the communities served by our members. Do so by working close with AdviceUK colleagues to ensure our policy, advocacy and campaigns activity is robust, challenging and independent and to raise our profile and reputation.

Responsibilities:

Policy Development

• Collaborate with AdviceUK colleagues to develop relationships with AdviceUK members, partners, funders and sector stakeholders to capture key policy data to support policy and advocacy work.
• Research, write and produce a range of policy material, including reports, select committee responses, evidence statements, briefings and responses to Government consultations.
• Manage the monitoring of policy, regulation and political activity across the UK, including key debates, parliamentary questions, All Party Group and select committee activities to inform our policy and campaigns activity.
• Support the smooth running of AdviceUK's policy workstreams, supporting effective integration of policy work across England, Scotland and Wales.
• Write reports, briefings and papers to keep members and internal stakeholders updated on our policy and public affairs activity.

Stakeholder Management And Public Affairs

• Lead on planning and delivery of our stakeholder and parliamentary contact programme and support this by writing letters and drafting briefings.
• Maintain and regularly review our stakeholder mapping, work with P&PA colleagues to ensure it reflects policy and public affairs objectives and sets our best routes to achieve desired outcomes
• Deliver effective public affairs monitoring and research, briefing and speech preparation, ensuring relevant developments and insights are shared with P&PA colleagues
• Support AdviceUK to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders across governments and parliaments (including Ministers, MPs, civil servants); local and regional decision makers; non-governmental bodies and other relevant stakeholders.
• Do so by communicating our policy proposals; intelligence about AdviceUK members; the evidence we have of the issues raised by them and, where relevant, arranging for key stakeholders to visit services to gain a lived experience perspective.

Data and Evidence

• Deliver any required analysis of data and reporting in order to support decision making.
• Support the delivery of reports as required to demonstrate if performance is achieving required KPIs
• Ensure the membership and stakeholder data you enter is accurate and timely. Work with AdviceUK colleagues to support data quality; accurate reporting and analysis.

About You

• Experience of using video content to communicate policy objectives and public affairs work to stakeholders
• Experience of working in partnership with others on joint campaigns

What you’ll be doing
The Legal Officer will conduct advocacy to achieve PI’s goals. This will include legal, policy, research, outreach and public engagement initiatives as PI formulates new and creative ways to demand change globally, including working with our partners across the world.

Essential Requirements:
Experiences
•  Experience working with international human rights standards and/or national rights frameworks.
•  Law degree or equivalent postgraduate diploma in any jurisdiction.

Main responsibilities

Press and PR:  

• Manage the UK Press Office and deliver a timely, accurate and professional response to media enquiries.

• Produce and distribute effective support materials, such as Q&As, media briefings, comments and lines to take when needed.

 Case Studies and Patient Stories:

Content Creation:

• Develop creative and engaging content for a wide variety of audiences to ensure each piece achieves objectives.

About you

To thrive in this role, you will have relevant experience of supporting adults, families and children/young people. You will be able to take a flexible and creative approach to problem solving. Due to the remote working nature of the role, you will have excellent communication skills to identify and assess the service user’s needs and work alongside them to develop their personal support plan.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a strong proficiency in Microsoft Teams and a broad computer literacy that includes the ability to work across multiple applications simultaneously. Confidence in recording data into an electronic information management system is essential, as is the capacity to rapidly acquire new software and application skills. The ability to plan and manage your own workload with minimal supervision is a key requirement for this role. Prior experience in using other Microsoft Office 365 applications to a high standard will be advantageous.

It would be advantageous if you have experience of carrying out assessments, preparing plans, monitoring and reviewing outcomes.

You have substantial experience of working in a supported housing or general needs housing management environment and a good understanding of mental health, domestic violence, drug and alcohol issues. Join us as a Housing Management Officer and you could soon be providing vital support to our Housing Manager Lead, as together you help us plan and organise all regulatory housing management activities. We’ll also rely on you to lead on day-to-day tenancy management, work with Area and Service Managers to support housing related services and ensure the compliance of housing related activities. Conducting regular inspections on properties, overseeing void reporting and assisting with the delivery of relevant data and analysis of voids – these are just some aspects of this interesting and varied role that’s all about delivering good quality homes and services to our tenants and residents.

To succeed, you’ll need Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Level 3 Certified Practitioner status (or equivalent) and an excellent understanding of  void management, bad debt and maximising income, plus the relevant regulatory requirements.

You’ll also need experience of working in a customer-focused environment or service and an understanding of the issues associated with individuals who may have complex support needs. Comfortable working in partnership with other key agencies and local communities, you’re also adept at identifying and monitoring key compliance in respect of health & safety requirements relating to properties and tenants. What’s more, you’re well organised, great at negotiating and developing effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders and happy to provide housing training to colleagues.

We’ve made substantial progress as we implement our new strategy, with improvements and expansions to our delivery model and a renewed vision and mission. To support our recent growth, we are recruiting for a new part time Finance Officer to help us effectively manage our day-to-day financial processes and provide financial and administrative support to our growing team of staff and volunteers.

Working closely with colleagues across the charity, your responsibilities will include the processing of purchase invoices and expenses, raising of contract invoices, assisting with budgets and forecasts and supporting our Income Generation team with their finance needs. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to various finance projects and strategic initiatives.

It is essential that you have strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail, good communication abilities, and a proactive attitude towards assisting with diverse finance tasks. Ideally you will possess a formal accounting qualification (AAT or equivalent) or be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of basic accounting and bookkeeping. Through our three charities, we work in partnership with the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust to deliver world class care. 

Crucial to this is the energy and focus we bring to ensuring charitable donations are utilised as effectively as possible through the Guy’s Cancer Charity, the Evelina London Children’s Charity and the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity. You will work in our Trust Engagement team, which is responsible for developing projects with colleagues at the Trust, making grants to deliver those projects and managing those grants on an ongoing basis. We also manage many donations for specific Trust services, which are held in our special purpose funds and disbursed through partnerships with Trust staff.

 You will play a central role in ensuring the positive impact of our grant making and special purpose funds for patients and staff at the Trust and will work closely with our Funding Managers to support our funding processes and the design and delivery of projects across our three charities.
 

 You will also work closely with colleagues in our Fundraising, Evidence and Impact, Finance and Operations and Communications teams as well as colleagues across the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and manage a portfolio of grants, advising and guiding applicants and grant holders, with appropriate support from Funding Managers where needed.
• Manage questions and issues on grant or fund expenditure as escalated by the Funding Operations team, or delegated by the Funding Manager.

• Develop and manage a process to monitor fundraising income into SPFs and allocation of restricted donations.
• Work with the Trust Engagement Business Manager to design reporting that enables robust pipeline and grant management, and supports monitoring and evaluation.
• Support improvement projects as needed, such as improvements to funding schemes, funding operations or business systems.

About the role

Main Responsibilities

• To be responsible for effective online marketing of the services and projects run by BWW Mind and ensuring that BWW Mind has a strong digital presence in the communities that we serve.
• To increase the reach and impact of BWW Mind’s profile and visibility through influential marketing, communications and PR in Brent, Wandsworth & Westminster.

Specific Responsibilities:

Publicity & Marketing

• Be responsible for regular social media posts relating to BLG Minds services, projects, news and events across all channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.
• Identify local groups and organisations to align our communications with, ensuring that tagging and appropriate hashtags are used to extend our reach.
• Work closely with the Communications and business development teams to identify and communicate key news items which can be shared online and assist in the production of offline promotional materials where required.
• Support the Business Development & Engagement Officer to promote and communicate fundraising campaigns, events and new areas of focus.
• Be responsible for maintaining the BWW Mind website, creating and updating engaging content (using Wordpress)

Communications

• Ensure that queries and comments presented through our social media channels are responded to in a timely way.
• Build strong relationships across the organisation and communicate with staff and volunteers to find out more about services and projects generating news stories.
• Edit information provided by staff and partners to communicate news clearly and effectively through the various online systems.
• Work with partner organisations including local press online contacts to ensure joined up digital communications.
• With other members of the Communications team, plan and organise activities to raise awareness of BWW Mind, tying in with other notable calendar events such as Mental Health Awareness Week.

Monitoring, evaluation and strategic direction

• Using Google analytics and statistical information generated on the back end of the different social media platforms, extract relevant data which identifies key trends and reasons why interaction may have increased or decreased and provide this to the DoBDI monthly, and assist in the production of quarterly reports for dissemination to committees and SMT.
• Work closely with internal staff to gain an understanding of which online approaches are most effective in reaching audiences and gaining buy in.
• Create systems to ensure that as an organisation we can ascertain the impact of our communications and focus our approaches accordingly.
