Summary of the role:
The Director of Operations is a pivotal senior leadership role at Sister System, responsible for strengthening the people, culture, systems and organisational foundations that enable our mission to thrive. Working closely with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees, the postholder will play a central role in delivering our current strategic priorities and shaping the next chapter of Sister System as we develop our future strategy beyond September 2027. 

This is a significant opportunity to help shape a growing, values-led organisation founded on co-curation, sisterhood, race & gender equity and the belief that girls and young women should be active architects of the services, systems and opportunities designed for them. With oversight of financial management, people and culture, compliance, risk and organisational infrastructure, the Director of Operations will lead on empowering & ensuring that our internal culture and ways of working reflect the same care, accountability, ambition and empowerment that sit at the heart of our model. 

The role will be instrumental in translating our founding vision into strong, sustainable practice, ensuring Sister System is equipped to grow its impact while remaining deeply connected to the voices, experiences and leadership of the girls and young women we exist to serve.

Key Responsibilities 

Strategic Leadership and Implementation 

• Work closely with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees to translate Sister System’s strategy, theory of change, operational model and financial plans into clear organisational priorities and coordinated action. 
• Play a central role in shaping Sister System’s next strategy ahead of the September 2027 refresh, ensuring it reflects our founding commitment to co-curation, the voices of girls and young women, our evolving three-stage model and our future growth ambitions. 
• Lead the development of proportionate planning, monitoring and review processes that enable the Senior Leadership Team to track progress, reflect on performance, identify barriers and remain accountable for delivery. 
• Monitor progress against agreed strategic goals and KPIs, ensuring that risks, dependencies and areas requiring leadership attention are clearly identified and addressed. 
• Support senior leaders to turn strategic priorities into realistic plans, with clear ownership, timescales and measurable outcomes. 
• Ensure that learning from delivery, impact data, staff experience and the voices of girls and young women inform strategic decision-making and organisational improvement. 
• Cultivate a strong shared sense of purpose across Sister System, helping colleagues understand how their roles contribute to our mission, values and long-term ambitions. 

Financial Strategy and Audit 

• Work closely with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees to shape, implement and regularly evaluate Sister System’s financial strategy, ensuring it supports our mission, strategic ambitions and long-term sustainability. 
• Provide clear, financial recommendations to the CEO, helping the organisation navigate the balance between delivering high-quality, meaningful impact for girls and young women, achieving value for money and maintaining financial resilience. 
• Translate Sister System’s strategic priorities, delivery model and growth ambitions into realistic financial plans, forecasts and scenarios that support timely and well-informed decision-making. 
• Lead financial scenario planning and ensure that the CEO and Board have a clear understanding of the financial implications, risks and trade-offs associated with key organisational decisions. 
• Lead and oversee the annual audit process, working effectively with external auditors, the finance team, senior leaders and the Board to ensure a robust, timely and transparent process. 
• Ensure that learning and recommendations arising from audits, financial reviews and assurance activity are translated into clear improvements and strengthened organisational practice. 

Financial Management 

• Lead the development, monitoring and management of annual budgets, reforecasts and longer-term financial plans, ensuring resources are aligned with Sister System’s strategic priorities. 
• Hold and actively manage the tension between quality, impact, affordability and value for money, ensuring financial decisions protect the integrity of Sister System’s model and the experience of the girls and young women we serve. 
• Provide the CEO, Senior Leadership Team and Board with clear, accessible and timely financial information, insight and recommendations to support effective leadership and governance. 
• Produce high-level financial reports and analysis covering budgets, cash flow, reserves, forecasts, strategic KPIs and other relevant performance indicators. 
• Maintain and continuously strengthen proportionate financial systems, controls and processes that reflect Sister System’s size, stage of growth and evolving operating model. 
• Ensure that robust financial and performance-reporting infrastructure is in place, with clear accountability, reliable data and appropriate oversight across the organisation. 
• Support Directors and budget holders to understand their financial responsibilities, manage resources effectively and make informed decisions within agreed parameters. 
• Identify emerging financial risks, pressures and opportunities for greater efficiency, advising the CEO on appropriate actions and ensuring these are monitored and addressed. 
• Oversee high quality bookkeeping practice to ensure reporting is accurate and up to date. 
• Work with the fundraising team to develop budgets for proposals and create timely financial reports for funders and donors 

Culture and Operational Effectiveness 

• Work closely with our People and Culture consultant, CEO and Senior Leadership Team to shape and embed a progressive, inclusive and high-performing organisational culture aligned with Sister System’s values: Collaborative, Evidence-based, Masterful, Solution-focused and Tenacious. 
• Champion a culture of regular, honest and constructive feedback, helping managers and colleagues to hold crucial conversations with clarity, care and accountability. 
• Ensure that Sister System’s internal culture reflects the relational, empowering and values-led approach that sits at the heart of our work with girls and young women. 
• Review existing organisational processes and workflows, identifying practical opportunities to improve clarity, consistency, collaboration and efficiency.

People Planning and Management 

• Lead the development of a clear and forward-looking people plan that ensures Sister System has the right structure, capacity, capabilities and leadership in place to deliver its strategic ambitions.

Governance, Communications and Facilities

• Work closely with trustees through the Finance and Audit committee 
• Oversee the organisation’s IT infrastructure and digital systems through external providers, ensuring that they remain secure, reliable and appropriate for Sister System’s needs. 
• Oversee the effective operation of Sister System’s physical workspace within a fully managed office environment, working with building management and relevant external providers where required.

Person Specification 
We are seeking an experienced, dynamic and values-led operational leader to join Sister System’s Senior Leadership Team. You will combine sound judgement and strong organisational skills with a warm, collaborative leadership style and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for care-affected girls and young women. 

You do not need to be a specialist in every area of the role. You will, however, need the confidence and experience to lead across a broad operational portfolio, work effectively with professional advisers and external providers, and provide clear, practical advice to the CEO, Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees. 

Essential Experience and Knowledge 

• Significant experience in a senior operations, finance, people, governance or organisational leadership role within a charity, social enterprise or similarly values-led organisation. 
• Experience of translating organisational strategy into clear priorities, plans, systems and measurable outcomes. 
• Experience of developing and managing organisational budgets, forecasts and financial reporting, with the ability to balance quality, impact, affordability and value for money. 
• Experience of supervising or coordinating an external audit process, working effectively with auditors, finance colleagues and the Board. 
• Experience of people planning, performance management and supporting managers to build capable, accountable and high-performing teams.

As the Facilities Officer at Southwark Cathedral, you will work as a key part of the Property team – co-responsible for the set-up and maintenance of spaces such as the Cathedral’s conference rooms and for health, safety and security on site. Working closely with the Head of Property, Facilities Manager and other members of the Property team and Verger team, you will be at the forefront of making the Cathedral site safe, tidy, functional and sustainable.

Southwark Cathedral has been a place of Christian worship for over 1400 years. Now it stands on the vibrant and exciting regenerated south bank of the Thames surrounded by cultural venues such as Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe and Borough Market, the offices of major companies as well as schools and diverse residential communities. It is an inclusive Christian community that offers a welcome to all. 

The Cathedral’s mission, ministry and musical tradition are core to its life as a Cathedral and a parish church serving the community. It also relies on the valuable financial contribution made by its income generating activities such as its shop, café, conference rooms, corporate events and concerts. It is a very busy place, attracting 290,000 visitors a year to the Cathedral, its churchyard and medieval herb garden. Main Duties and Responsibilities

Site and Facilities Assistance 

• General porterage, to include moving and installing of pack-away furniture as required; 
• Shifting of furniture between rooms and storage across site to meet needs of Cathedral; 
• Assistance with delivery of tea, coffee and finger-food refreshments to conference and meeting rooms for internal meetings and external clients. Food & Hygiene Level 2 required (training given); 
• Light cleaning as required, including bin-emptying; 
• Top-up cleaning of toilets and washrooms, to retain fully functioning facilities for conferences, meetings and events; 
• Replenishing washroom supplies, e.g. soap, paper hand towels, toilet roll, etc; 
• Assistance with some high-level housekeeping in the Cathedral church and throughout the site, e.g. heritage cleaning, hanging decorations, lights, etc; 
• Assist Facilities Manager with simple tasks of general building maintenance;
• Maintain tidiness of the cleaning and furniture stores; 
• Remove waste and bulky redundant items from rooms and storage areas for on-site collection; 
• Carry out regular site inspections to ensure that the entire Cathedral precinct is kept free from litter and in good order with signage and barriers correctly placed

Security, Health and Safety

• Remain vigilant at all times for the security of the Cathedral premises; 
• Check that public areas and working areas and practices are kept safe and free from trip, slip and other hazards; 
• Take action when needed to implement emergency procedures; 
• Act as Fire Marshall and Lockdown Marshall (training given); 
• Ensure compliance with relevant Heath and Safety legislation and statutory codes of practice; 
• Liaise with the Property Team and Head Verger over any issues of concern with regard to Health, Safety & Security. 

Conference Rooms 

• Work with Property Team managing the preparation of conference rooms including audio visual equipment requirements; 
• Ensure conference and meeting rooms are set with appropriate furniture and equipment for event or meeting in timely fashion; 
• Manage week-day room-setting according to Cathedral diary and to meet different departments’ event requirements; 
• Provide operational audio-visual support to clients to provide presentation- and meeting-standard IT functions.

Sustainability 

• Assist in the implementation and monitoring of the Cathedral’s energy management and waste strategies including liaising with waste management suppliers, reading utility meters, changing fittings to LED light bulbs;
• Light garden maintenance where required.

The fundraising officer will play a key role in delivering and growing the charity's events and community fundraising programme, with a focus on increasing supporter participation, income, retention and long-term engagement. This will include leading on the planning, delivery and evaluation of key activity such as the charity's flagship events (including Eye to Eye and a proposed abseil), third-party challenge events (e.g., London Marathon and The Big Half), and supporter-led community fundraising. 

The selected candidate will be an experienced events and/or community fundraiser, with a confident, proactive approach and strong relationship-building skills. You will bring excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, be comfortable working with a range of internal and external stakeholders and suppliers, and be motivated by delivering high-quality supporter experiences. You will also be able to monitor performance against agreed targets (income, participation, ROI and engagement) and use insight and CRM data to continuously improve activity.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, highly organised and proactive Executive Officer to support the Secretary of the Conference.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of the Methodist Church's governance, leadership and decision-making structures.

Working closely with the Secretary of the Conference and colleagues across the Conference Office, you will provide executive, governance and project support, helping to ensure the effective delivery of key priorities and the smooth operation of major governance processes.

The role combines executive support, committee and governance administration, research and briefing, stakeholder engagement and project coordination. It offers the opportunity to work with senior leaders, office holders and colleagues from around the Methodist Connexion and beyond.

The post holder will provide advice and support to the Secretary of the Conference across the entire range of their responsibilities. They will prepare briefing papers, reports, presentations, worship material and other documentation supporting the Secretary.

In this crucial role, the Executive Officer will read committee and meeting papers and flag items requiring the Secretary's attention/awareness, ensuring appropriate briefings are received and that the Secretary is alerted to key issues. 

The post holder will also lead on the preparation for regular meetings on behalf of the Secretary of the Conference including the Connexional Leaders’ Forum and the Nominations Committee.  The successful applicant will also liaise with the wider Methodist family of charities and organisations to enable regular engagement and updates for the Secretary. 

The successful applicant will also undertake and develop special projects, or plan or commission research on behalf of the Secretary of the Conference.

About You

You will bring strong executive support, governance or project coordination experience, alongside excellent communication skills and a proactive, collaborative approach. You will be equally comfortable preparing high-quality briefings and reports, coordinating key meetings and governance processes, and building effective working relationships with colleagues, volunteers and partners.

The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability effectively to support a senior manager or senior office holder and be experienced in researching information and producing briefings and reports.

You can prioritise, work unsupervised and demonstrate imitative.  You can assimilate new information quickly and keep abreast of rapidly changing situations and work themes. 

You will have outstanding organisational and communication skills, with a meticulous eye for detail, and strong proficiency in written and spoken English.

You have strong interpersonal skills and can work with colleagues as an effective member of a team and work alongside and guide volunteers. 

Ability and willingness to travel for work purposes including some evening, weekends and overnight stays is essential for this role.

We’re searching for an experienced Legacy Officer, who will play a vital role in ensuring every gift left to Dogs Trust in a will reaches its full potential. This role sits at the heart of our work, as every legacy makes a difference to the dogs we support.

What does this role do?
As a Legacy Officer, you will: 

• manage a caseload of pecuniary, specific, life interest, and residuary legacies, ensuring the charity receives its full entitlement and maximising value where possible,
• liaise with external stakeholders, such as executors or solicitors, handling sensitive conversations efficiently and professionally,
• review estate accounts, including the allocation of Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and Inheritance Tax (IHT), to confirm estates are correctly administered,

• maintain accurate records using the First Class 4 database, support with reporting, and escalate significant matters to senior legal staff as needed.

Job Title: Philanthropy Officer

Reporting to: Philanthropy Manager

Purpose of the Role

The role of the Philanthropy Officer is to manage the gift administration and stewardship of supporters, lead on the stewardship of regular and individual givers, and support the Philanthropy Manager to grow the Individual Giving income stream for Chance to Shine. 

This includes responsibility for the coordination of individual giving campaigns, management of the administration of legacy gifts, and wider regular giving campaigns and appeals.

Key responsibilities

Supporter Care

• Ensure all donations are efficiently and accurately recorded and acknowledged in a timely fashion.
• Process all individual giving bank donations including website/third-party fundraising/gift-collection platforms and ensure they are efficiently and accurately entered onto our Raisers Edge database and processed (cash, cheques, credit cards, Direct Debits and vouchers) daily. 
• Maintain accurate electronic supporter records including donations, personal details, Gift Aid declarations, communication preferences and any other data relating to their support. 
• Write and update template thank you letters. 
• Respond to donor enquiries and provide personalised information as and when requested.
• Work with the Philanthropy Manager and the Communications and Marketing team to develop the supporter care strategy, proactively identifying and implementing new ways of improving supporter care.

Supporter Cultivation 

• Coordinate appeals and campaigns to help upgrade supporters and bring in new donors.
• Regularly identify lapsed committed supporters with a view to reengaging them via fundraising cultivation. 
• Produce copy for fundraising materials alongside the Communications and Marketing team and organise the distribution of these materials to supporters in a coordinated manner. 
• Support the Philanthropy Manager on the organisation and execution of project visits for supporters including attending visits where needed. 
• Support the Philanthropy Manager and Director of Fundraising with funding proposals and reports as needed.
• Support the Philanthropy Manager and Director of Fundraising when preparing for meetings and calls with current and prospective new supporters.
• Support on the research and identification of new prospects

Legacy gifts

• Lead on communications with legacy and in-memory supporters to ensure that this is sensitively managed and reflects the values of Chance to Shine. 
• Monitor and maintain legacy gifts on the database and support with the administration of legacies for the organisation.

Compliance and Data Protection

• Support on data protection compliance for the fundraising team working with the Director of Finance and Resources and Fundraising team as appropriate.
• Ensure all fundraising processes comply with data protection regulations, (including Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR) the Code of Fundraising Practice and any other regulatory bodies. 
• Lead on updating supporters’ consent and preferences to comply with fundraising regulations and best practice.

General Support 

• Manage fundraising income administration, including donation processing and income reconciliation with Finance Team.
• Lead on organisational Gift Aid, including Gift Aid promotion and submitting claims.
• Undertake other responsibilities not outlined above which are commensurate with a role of this nature and which have been discussed and agreed with the line manager. 
• Work occasional evenings or weekends to support fundraising events (for which time off in lieu will be given)
