Job description

Plan International UK is recruiting for an exciting new post to lead our programme work with girls and young people across the UK.

Plan International UK is a global children’s charity with over 80 years’ experience of working to deliver and protect girls’ rights across the world and to address gender inequality: we are the global experts on girls’ rights.

As Head of UK Programmes, you will be responsible for working to an ambitious three-year  strategy to deliver high quality, high impact programmes across the UK to improve the lives of UK girls. You will drive a broader UK girls’ rights agenda, working with others across the organisation to deliver girls’ rights, working with others across the organisation to identify clear priorities and explore all relevant opportunities to create change for girls.

You’ll harness the efforts of your team, empowering and motivating them with the vision of the changes we want to see. You’ll need to demonstrate the ability to take a girl-led approach throughout our activity, to consider all aspects of diversity and inclusion and to see that the voices of girls are at the heart of all our UK work.

This is a senior, strategic role, so we are looking for considerable experience of commissioning, designing and managing UK programmes in the womens’/girls’/children’s sector in the UK, working with large institutions and developing and maintaining high-level influencing networks. You’ll also have experience of acting as external spokesperson on a range of sectoral issues and to a range of audiences.

A vital aspect of this role is to be a safeguarding lead: you will be accountable for ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding are met throughout all our UK work, and that all team members are confident and competent in meeting safeguarding responsibilities.

The deadline for applications is 9:00 am on 18 June

First interviews will take place on 26/29 June

Due to the nature of our work with children and young people, we follow rigorous child safeguarding policies and procedures in our recruitment process. As a result, some of our roles are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service. A criminal record will not necessarily bar you from joining us as an employee or volunteer; this will depend on the circumstances of any offences.
