Job description


Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum dependent on experience

Location: Home-based within Scotland – with travel to Cancer Research UK sites across Scotland

Contract Type: Circa 12 month fixed-term contract

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week (flexible requests considered)

We have a wonderful opportunity for someone to join our Research Information team to drive support for Cancer Research UK in Scotland by increasing engagement with our life-saving research. Working closely with the Senior Research Engagement Manager, researchers, clinicians, and fundraisers; you’ll develop high-impact events for CRUK supporters and the wider public, and deliver regional communications to raise awareness of CRUK’s impact on cancer, and its benefit for people in Scotland. You will also support the Research Engagement team nationally by developing engagement experiences to communicate the impact of our work to key supporters, and leading projects aimed at developing and testing experiences for priority audiences.

Some of the key responsibilities you can expect to have are…

  • Planning, delivering and supporting a busy programme of virtual and face to face (subject to COVID-19 guidelines) research engagement experiences such as webinars, lab and building tours, evening events, open days, talks and discussions

  • Bringing the research CRUK funds across Scotland to life, with a focus on the Beatson Institute in Glasgow and CRUK Edinburgh Centre, building strong relationships with CRUK funded researchers across Scotland to encourage their involvement in our engagement activities

  • Acting as a conduit between our research locations in Scotland and Cancer Research UK

  • Strengthening relationships between CRUK, research locations in Scotland, researchers and other stakeholders 

  • Raising the profile of CRUK’s role and impact in Scotland

  • Communications - Engaging communicator, with experience of inspiring diverse audiences

  • Strong presentation skills and experience of presenting complex information to lay audiences and senior management 

  • Influence - Ability to influence and negotiate support from a wide range of stakeholders 

  • Creativity - Ability to develop new products, honing briefs, generating ideas, developing and testing new engagement activities

  • Project Management - Strong planning and organisational skills; event management experience an advantage 

  • Proactive  - a confident networker with experience of building and maintaining strong mutually beneficial relationships 

  • Credibility - Ability to establish credibility quickly by being professional, knowledgeable and dependable 

  • Problem solving and solutions-driven –  the ability to spot opportunities and ensure successful delivery of a busy programme of engagement events for which there is high demand
