Job Description
The Head of Advocacy and Policy will be responsible for developing an excellent Advice Service and Retention Team to support and advise students effectively to enable excellent student experience and satisfaction.
This role will lead on the development of effective insights, representation and support initiatives/campaigns for students, across our three campuses at Greenwich, Avery Hill and Medway.
This role will enhance work with the diverse student population of the University of Greenwich and lead a dynamic team to ensure students have consistent and accessible services that contribute to positive student experience.
This role sits within the wider Membership Services department, together with other key areas consisting of; Activities, Sport, Academic Communities, Representation and Democracy, we provide a high-quality service for students, that they can shape, steer and be at the heart of.
This postholder will be part of the GSU Senior Leadership Team and will be expected to contribute to department and organisation wide strategic development.
The post holder will:
- Have expert knowledge in areas of in relation to Advice and Retention and policies and legislation relating to such activity
- Support and develop strong student-led communities and campaigns in areas of: Advice, wellbeing and retention so that members can thrive
- Provide line management support to staff so that the team have up to date, specialist advice skills, knowledge and understanding of University regulations, policies and procedures that may affect the work of the Advice service and oversee engagement across Greenwich’s 3 campuses
- Undertake casework and provide expert advice for the team on all aspects of Advice
- Lead on the project management of wellbeing/health promotion campaigns and initiatives throughout the year, as well as any external bids through bodies such as OfS
- Oversee the Retention and Wellbeing Project work, and other relevant projects with external partners
- Lead on insights work relating to retention, wellbeing and support
- Lead on responses to external consultation and enquiry responses, including but not limited to OfS, Department for Education, OIA and Universities UK
- Support elected officers to deliver on campaigning priorities
- Ensure the Advice service has the skills and is equipped to support the diverse needs of students at Greenwich and Kent at Medway.
- Provide regular insights and reports on the GSU Membership to inform our strategy and service provision
- Work with other Heads to develop relevant and modern Front of House services for each GSU campus ensuring ease of access and consistency for all members.
Key Areas
- Be an engaged and active member of the Senior Leadership team, contributing regularly and working collaboratively with peers
- Provide leadership, strategic direction and day to day operational management to the Advocacy and Policy: recruiting and inducting members of staff, motivating, supporting and developing team members to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge for their roles as well as manage performance
- Develop a proactive results driven culture within the team, ensuring agreed objectives and targets are delivered, whilst promoting a collaborative approach to working with internal departments
- Develop succession plans and identify training and development opportunities within the team
- Be accountable for the quality of outputs of the team
- Provide support to the Officer team helping and equipping them, particularly in their roles as representatives and providing pastoral support and guidance.
- Ensure the whole organisation is aware of and understands the work of the Advocacy and Policy Team and its contribution to our strategic objectives
- To maintain expert and up-to-date knowledge on sector policies and regulations relating to advice, retention and student success, providing relevant guidance to officers and staff as required.
- Develop and promote a culture of continuous improvement across the team to ensure we can adapt to changing students’ needs and priorities, as well as building on successes and preparing for the future.
Strategic Development
- Contribute to the strategic objectives of GSU, with a particular focus on advice, support and wellbeing in relation to the student experience
- Develop and oversee a new and innovative approach to proactive health and wellbeing campaigns that empower students to look after themselves and each other, as well as seeking support
- Lead on Access and Participation Plan Engagement, acting as the key contact on this area with the University.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with relevant senior UoG staff and departments including Student Academic Services, Faculties and our partners at Kent Unio
- Develop and oversee the Advice service to support advocacy initiatives at multiple levels within the University, ensuring both students and University stakeholders view GSU as a credible and reliable source of information on the needs of students.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Develop and oversee a structured approach to gathering, analysing and reporting on data relating to engagement of students with our services and to student views on key issues relating to retention and success
- Develop and oversee processes of collecting quantitative and qualitative data from casework to analyse trends and inform feedback for the SU and university
- Ensure evaluation mechanism are embedded in the teams working practises and that findings are shared and used to implement learnings with the goal of improving services
- Support Officers by preparing information, statistics and trends about key services to be shared within the University committee cycle
- Be responsible for the implementation of service standards for the Advocacy and Policy Team and to monitor and report on adherence to these standards
- Prepare materials to apply for any relevant quality mark accreditations for the service.
Budget and Financial Management
- Manage a budget relating to Advocacy and Policy including any restricted funds.
- Be responsible for the teams resources, ensuring these are effectively allocated, managed and controlled
- Review and establish processes, systems, polices and where appropriate standard procedures to maximise efficiency ensure deadlines are met and a positive return on investment
- Review and provide narrative for scrutiny at monthly management meetings with the Finance Team
Stakeholder management
- Collaborate with GSU colleagues, particularly the Student Voice and Engagement Teams to ensure we have a consistent approach to how we work with and support students
- Work with students through our representative structures and forums to ensure we shape services students want and need, taking into consideration the varying campus priorities
- Maintain strong relationships with key university staff to develop, deliver and evaluate collaborative projects and interventions supporting advice and retention
- Attend meetings relating to Advocacy and Policy as well as associated areas at both GSU, the University and externally, included, but not limited to regional networks
- Identify opportunities to share best practice and represent the work of GSU and your team to the wider HE community, through conferences and publication.

The Trust was set up in Suzy's name and continues to be a pioneer in reducing the risk and prevalence of abuse, aggression and violence - with a specific focus on stalking and harassment - through education, campaigning, policy and support.
A growing charity, the Suzy Lamplugh Trust delivers high value impact. The Stalking Helpline offers support and advice to thousands of victims of stalking every year and bespoke advocacy teams work closely with partners and stakeholders across the Violence Against Women and Girls' sector, criminal justice system, and both statutory and non-statutory services to ensure people live a life free from abuse and fear.
The Senior Services and Development Lead role is about making a difference, supporting the most vulnerable, standing up against what is wrong, driving systemic change, and holding decision makers to account. The team work hard so beneficiaries sleep better at night, families can reunite at the end of the working day, and victims of harassment and stalking can regain control of their situations.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, deliver and develop operational projects, ensuring the work of the Suzy Lamplugh Trust has maximum impact and is embedded into the core output of the charity.
- Lead on the National Stalking Helpline, National Advocacy Service which offers support and advice to thousands of victims of stalking every year, and the Cleveland Advocacy project.
- Work with the Director of Services to deliver an ambitious strategy which includes developing national hubs and accreditation services across the UK, as well as supporting in the roll out and delivery of core training packages across statutory and non-statutory services.
- Provide leadership and management to relevant managers and team leaders.
The Senior Service and Development Lead will be an ambitious, dynamic leader with strong senior operational experience. The successful candidate will need to think on their feet and work in a fast paced, ever-changing environment. You will have a successful track record in designing, developing and delivering a range of projects and services demonstrating strong project management skills, as well as significant experience offering strategic and operational direction to front line services. You will have a background in the violence against women and girls' sector and experience of working in domestic abuse, sexual violence and/or the criminal justice sector. The ideal candidate will have experience in safeguarding and case supervision.
You will have demonstrable experience in a senior managerial role, be confident setting targets and appraising performance and be an inspiring leader. You will be an excellent communicator with have a successful track record representing an organisation to senior external stakeholders, including government and the media, with strong influencing and negotiation skills with people at all levels. You will have experience developing briefings, producing reports and reporting to funders. You will understand the financial constraints of working in a small charity, and funding mechanisms within the sector, with proven ability to manage multiple complex budgets. You will be passionate about the area of violence against women and girls and want to play an integral part of its future.

Since August 2020, Asylum Aid has been part of the Helen Bamber Foundation Group. Somebody goes missing in the UK every 90 seconds. Missing People exists to ease the heartache experienced by those missing someone, and to help people who are away from home find their way back to safety. Our vision is for every missing child, adult and family left behind to find help, hope and a safe way to reconnect. We are a non-judgemental, highly skilled team of staff and volunteers working for everyone who needs us. We provide free, confidential support, help and advice by phone, email, text and live chat.
The work of the charity includes helpline and intensive support services for young people who are running away, missing adults, and people whose loved ones are missing (“families”). The experiences of the people we support include: suicide and self-harm, mental health crisis, child sexual and criminal exploitation, traumatic grief (bereavement by suicide, homicide), discrimination. The frontline team support people in heart-breaking situations – the people we support often feel helpless and are living in limbo due to the ambiguous loss of their missing loved one.
THE IMPACT YOU WILL HAVE
Your role will be to provide clinical supervision to staff across the Services Team. It is essential for the frontline team to be able to maintain strong boundaries, have regular debriefing and the space to process the work they do and to reflect on how working with this trauma is impacting them, as well as to develop their practice. You will:
• Provide regular individual clinical supervision for frontline staff or Senior Coordinators / Team Leaders;
• Monitor attendance at supervision;
• Provide regular reports to the Services Leadership Team on engagement with supervision and any development needs identified;
• Facilitate 2-4 thematic group sessions per year for Services staff (reflective practice).
ABOUT YOU
You will have proven experience of:
• Providing clinical supervision to helpline staff and/or their team leaders;
• Transforming experience into learning;
• Working around the issues of suicide & self-harm, mental health crisis and discrimination;
• Working around the issues of child sexual and criminal exploitation and traumatic grief (bereavement by suicide, homicide);
• Implementing safeguarding procedures to safeguard children, young people or adults at risk of harm.
You must also have:
• Qualification in clinical supervision with a minimum of 2 years post qualification practice;
• BACP registration or accreditation (preferred) or UKCP registration;
• and be a qualified Counsellor.
• You must have the legal right to work in the UK. We are unable to provide sponsorship for this position.
• If you work remotely you must have a private and secure place you can work in the UK and internet access.

About the Role
The Central Services Team is responsible for ensuring the provision of effective day-to-day central facilities services and infrastructure, enabling UnLtd to meet its strategic aims and objectives.
Working as part of UnLtd’s Central Services Team, the Office & Facilities Coordinator will be working with the Central Services Manager to make sure that the building is in the best condition for the employees who work there and our staff working remotely are doing so in line with proper safety precautions.

The StreetLink London service, is a team of x7 Assessment workers, a Coordinator, a Service Manager and a pool of dedicated volunteers. The service is funded by the GLA, Bloomberg and London Councils, and is service which offers support directly to people at risk of or rough sleeping in London. The service provides targeted telephone advice, advocacy and support to help prevent and resolve people’s rough sleeping. The service does so by finding solutions to connect people to vital services that can help resolve their homelessness.

About the role
This hands-on role will lead the implementation of global communications strategies for ITF’s Land and
Air Sections (LAS): Aviation, Railways, Road Transport, Tourism and Urban Transport.
The LAS Communications Manager will work closely with the industrial sections and affiliates to push forward a union-led agenda for the aviation and inland transport industries.
Working within a multi-disciplinary team, this role will work collaboratively to deliver and evaluate forward-thinking communication strategies for these industrial work programs and their priority campaigns. The role will include targeting diverse audiences including transport workers in the industries, employers, allies, media, policy makers, political leaders and the wider public. The role will also play a crucial role in ensuring that section’s industrial priorities and issues are reflected and integrated in organisation-wide communications priorities and areas of focus.

1. Background:
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Research Commissioning Centre (RCC) has been established to commission and manage quality, equitable research at value to inform international development priorities in the UK and globally. Led by the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie), the University of Birmingham, and a consortium of 17 UK and global research partners, the RCC aims to commission different types of high-quality research in FCDO’s key priority areas. The FCDO is expecting to deliver 20-30% of its total research budget through the RCC within a four-year time frame (total research budget was roughly £300m in 23/24).
The RCC has been operating since June 2023, working very closely with FCDO’s research teams through an early pilot phase. The key objectives of the RCC are to deliver ‘world class’ research commissioning processes and to build and manage a coherent R&D digital platform for the FCDO. These will promote equitable and streamlined access to FCDO funding and accelerate paths to research impact. This involves addressing the challenges associated with research bureaucracy, as highlighted by the Independent Review of Research Bureaucracy.
During the pilot phase the RCC has set up early processes and mechanisms ahead of the first research commissions, which launched in April 2024. Progress has been made to develop a digital platform for FCDO research and to build an R&D brand identity. We are now recruiting a full-time Director to lead the RCC through the next four years to implement the RCC’s vision, consolidate and deepen strategic connections across the consortium and wider networks within the sector, and direct and manage teams and resources towards delivery of a ‘world-class’ commissioning centre.
It is in this exciting context that 3ie seeks an outstanding candidate to serve as the Director to lead the Research Commissioning Centre. The Director will be supported by a secretariat and will report to the Executive Director of 3ie and to the Steering Committee of the RCC (this will include representatives from the FCDO, the consortium, and externals). The secretariat will include three units; an academic delivery unit, a programme management, due diligence, contracting and finance unit, and a stakeholder engagement, communication, and impact unit, and is projected to grow to 20+ positions over the course of the next 12 months. The Director will be a 3ie employee (or seconded from their existing institution) whose terms of employment are contingent upon the FCDO project financing their position.
The position covers a wide range of responsibilities including:
- Setting the strategic direction for the FCDO RCC and its role within the broader FCDO research brand to ensure the core objectives and vision are delivered
- Leading the FCDO RCC secretariat and operations within the Centre, including effective allocation of resources to implement workplans agreed with the FCDO
- Liaising closely with FCDO Senior and Programme Responsible Owners (SRO/PRO) and research team leads to identify and respond to research commissioning needs
- Oversight of all research commissions, including ensuring access to the right academic expertise and development and implementation of world leading processes for research commissioning
- Engaging and collaborating with other UK Government R&D funders and the broader research commissioning community to ensure the RCC adopts world class, ethical, inclusive, and impactful research commissioning practices

The International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) promotes evidence-informed equitable, inclusive, and sustainable development. We support the generation and effective use of high-quality evidence to inform decision-making and improve the lives of people living in poverty in low- and middle-income countries. We provide guidance and support to produce, synthesise and quality assure evidence of what works, for whom, how, why and at what cost.
We do so through evidence programmes, production of public goods, professional services, and support for institutional advancement initiatives. The evidence programmes include impact evaluations, implementation research, replication studies, systematic reviews, and evidence gap maps. Our work encompasses a wide range of topics, sectors, and themes, including health systems and services, nutrition, and related social sector programmes.
3ie is registered as a non-governmental organisation in the United States. We have offices in New Delhi, London and Washington, DC.
3. Role Summary:
The Director of the RCC will be responsible for the day to day running of the RCC and implementing the vision of the FCDO RCC as a leading, responsive, equitable and efficient funder and custodian of world-class, policy-relevant, and impactful research (addressing and) informing the global challenges of our time. The individual will do so through developing and nurturing the FCDO and 3ie (and consortium) partnership and oversee the strategic planning, implementation, and delivery of the FCDO RCC programme.
The ideal candidate is a visionary leader passionate about leveraging research for global development impact.
The position will be based in the UK/ London, on a remote work basis, but with regular in person interaction expected with the stakeholder teams.
4. Key responsibilities
4.1 Strategic Leadership and Vision:
- Define and implement strategic goals and ambition in alignment with the RCC’s vision and FCDO’s overarching research objectives
- Develop long-term strategies for scaling up research initiatives, with a focus on achieving measurable impacts on UK global development priorities
- Develop and promote culture of lessons learning and continuous improvement and innovation conducive to world class commissioning and cutting-edge research in FCDO’s key priority areas
- Report progress and strategic insights regularly to the Executive Director of 3ie and the RCC Steering Committee
4.2 Research Commissioning and Management:
- Oversee the development of the RCC operational framework, including the commissioning process
- Oversee the research commissions, from scoping and development of calls for proposals, through proposal review and selection, to due diligence and contracting
- Ensuring transparency, efficiency, and adherence to ethical standards in all the RCCs work
- Facilitate transparent and effective communication between all parties involved in the research commissioning process
- Oversight of the progress of research commissions to ensure they meet predefined objectives and quality standards
4.3 Partnership and Network Development:
- Engage and collaborate with other UK Government R&D funders and the broader research community to ensure the RCC effectively shares lessons and adopts world class, ethical, inclusive, and impactful research commissioning practices, whilst aligning and reducing burden on research where possible
- Engage with the Bureaucracy Review Reform and Implementation Network (BRRIN) led by the UK Government Department for Science, Innovation and Technology
- Strengthen relationships with existing partners in the RCC consortium through regular engagements and oversight of RCC commissions
- Engage with international research communities to exchange knowledge, best practices, and actively seek new partnerships to enhance research capacity and output
- Develop targeted strategies and approaches to capacity-strengthening programmes to enhance the skills and knowledge of RCC stakeholders to respond to requests for proposals
- Advocate for and support the principles of inclusion and equitable partnerships within all research activities
4.4 Operational and Financial Oversight:
- Lead the RCC secretariat and ensure the effective administration of the Centre’s operations
- Oversight of budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation to ensure sustainability of the Centre’s activities
- Implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential challenges impacting research timelines and outputs
4.5 Capacity Building and Team Leadership:
- Develop targeted capacity-strengthening programmes to enhance the skills and knowledge of RCC stakeholders, including the RCC team itself, consortium partners, and the wider research institutions network. Special attention will be given to partners from the global south, to help ensure a levelling of the playing field
- Mentor and guide RCC staff, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and ethical conduct
- Lead and motivate the team to achieve high performance and meet research commissioning targets
4.6 Stakeholder Engagement, Communication, and Impact:
- Oversee the development and implementation of the strategic engagement and communications strategy for the RCC
- Oversee the development of RCC’s approach and systems for developing and tracking evidence use and impact of RCC commissioned research
- Ensure all RCC-commissioned research includes planning for stakeholder engagement and evidence uptake and use
- Contribute to thought leadership to amplify RCC’s work, reflect on lessons learned and showcase impacts.
- Regularly engage with the FCDO, academic institutions, policymakers, and other stakeholders to align research activities with broader policy goals
- Represent RCC in national and international forums to promote the RCC, lessons, impacts and innovations from the RCC

5.Qualifications and skills
5.1 Education and Work Experience
- Educational Background: Master’s degree or higher in International Relations, Public Policy, Development Studies, Economics, or a related field
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in research management in international development or a related field
- Partnerships and Networks: Track record of building strategic engagement with research funders and relationships across the research network; and building and managing partnerships across geographies and disciplines
- Research Commissioning: Track record of successful research commissioning and management, including adopting and testing innovative approaches and solutions to increase effectiveness and inclusion
- Research Expertise: Experience in managing large-scale research projects and working with international development agencies is highly desirable

The IDVA will work within a dynamic, fast paced, crisis intervention, advocacy, and support service to ensure the voice of survivors informs every stage of the process specialising in working with clients at high risk. They will work within the team to make proactive contact and provide high quality advocacy and support based upon a client led needs and risk assessment to women from aged 13, focusing on working with those aged 18 and over who access the domestic abuse service. They will advise women on criminal justice and civil remedies and related matters, support women to attend court where necessary, and coordinate the provision of multi-agency support. As a Core IDVA will work across the boroughs mentioned above, under the guidance of the team leaders and project manager.

To be successful as a Core IDVA, you’ll need to have an excellent understanding of domestic abuse and its effects on women and children and of best practice within the domestic abuse sector. As an experienced domestic abuse advocate who has worked with complex and multiple needs, you will be skilled in risk management and safety planning, remaining calm in a crisis and in handling sensitive information on a daily basis. Experience of direct work with female survivors of domestic abuse, of supporting women involved in mental health services, and of working within safeguarding procedures is essential for this post, as is the need to adopt and promote a strong partnership approach to service provision.

This role is a vital member of the Senior Management Team supporting the Chief Executive to make
strategic decisions as well as contributing to the areas of Human Resources and Health and Safety to
ensure Red2Green runs effectively.

Key duties and responsibilities of the role:
• Leads the Aspirations Service in a way that reflects the overarching strategy of the
organisation via action plans, effective leadership of staff, sound communications and
personal example.
• Provides leadership and line management to Aspirations staff, including objective setting,
performance management and the appraisal process, delegating the process where
necessary and ensuring all Red2Green procedures for this are followed.
External
• Creates and oversees a personalised service for clients that reflects the wider landscape
within the county and the sector, with the intention that Red2Green and the Aspirations
Service is an industry leader for Autism Services.
• Oversees all Education Provision for those at Red2Green with an Education, Health and Care
Plan (EHCP).
• Organises, attends and takes a lead at EHCP reviews, writes EHCP offers and provides
professional reports when needed.
• Works as Deputy Designated Safeguard Lead (DDSL) alongside the Options Manager, and
Chief Executive.
• Builds professional relationships with other agencies, provisions and professionals.
• Builds good relationships with learners’ families/carers to make sure that they are involved
(as appropriate) in developing learners’ skills and abilities.
Person specification:
You will have:
• Experience with autistic individuals and a good understanding of the complexities that come
from having more than one diagnosis
• Experience of working with people with learning disabilities
• Experience of leading staff
• Knowledge and Understanding of Education Health Care Plans
• Understanding of safeguarding duty
• Qualification for teaching (adults or QTS)

Scope’s Safeguarding team are looking for a Safeguarding Administrator to provide essential support to the team. We are looking for an experienced and resilient administrator with a basic understanding of safeguarding best practice and legislation.

The role
We’re looking for an experienced administrator to join our Safeguarding team. You will provide full administrative support to the team and other key stakeholders as required. We need someone with an enthusiastic, outcome-focused attitude and approach to supporting colleagues.
You will:
- Support the Safeguarding team with incoming queries, directing them to the appropriate member of the team
- Keep safeguarding records and systems up to date and accurate
- Provide administrative support related to safeguarding training delivery and compliance
- Support the team with administrative tasks related to Designated Safeguarding Leads
- Work flexibly as required supporting colleagues on projects and work activity
- Support the review and updating of our current administrative processes in the Safeguarding Team
- Support the team with reviewing safeguarding documents and ensuring safeguarding documents are accessible
- Positively support and champion safeguarding across the organisation
