Governors will play a vital role in overseeing delivery, monitoring key performance indicators, and championing the College.
Looking to the rest of a new governor’s term, priorities for the College include launching major capital projects, building international partnerships, and achieving national recognition in areas such as Construction. Governors will contribute to strategic decisions to drive development and support the College’s national profile. The College’s requirements
The Corporation Board at Hull College is seeking to appoint three new governors to support the College’s strategic growth, academic excellence, and governance capability. These vacancies include: an opening on the Higher Education Advisory Committee; a vacancy for the role of Chair of the Standards Committee; and a role as Vice-Chair of the Corporation. All roles require individuals who can act as a critical friend by providing robust challenge, strategic oversight, and constructive support to senior leaders while helping ensure accountability, compliance, and progress against the College’s objectives.
The successful applicant to the Higher Education Advisory Committee will bring significant knowledge of Higher Education regulation and governance, including the Office for Students (OfS) conditions of registration, QAA frameworks, and statutory guidance. With experience of governance or leadership in HE or FE, they will contribute a strong understanding of academic assurance, compliance, and risk. Their role as a critical friend will involve offering independent insight, questioning standards where appropriate, and supporting the continued delivery of high-quality, compliant HE provision.
The incoming Chair of the Standards Committee will be an educationalist, ideally from a FE background, with substantial experience in curriculum quality, student outcomes, and sector-wide benchmarks. They will be confident in scrutinising performance data, challenging achievement rates, and applying their knowledge of Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework. This individual will be responsible for leading rigorous, evidence-based discussions and ensuring continuous improvement across teaching, learning, and progression. They will support the executive team while holding them accountable to high expectations for learner success.
The future Vice-Chair of the Corporation will be a senior leader with strong governance experience and a background in complex, high-level corporate or public sector settings. They will bring expertise in leadership resilience, talent management, and succession planning, and will Chair the Remuneration Committee. This role requires strategic thinking, a deep understanding of governance and accountability, and the ability to work collaboratively with the Chair, Board, and senior leaders to ensure effective leadership continuity and organisational stability.
New governors are supported through a structured induction to help them quickly understand their role, responsibilities, and the college’s strategic priorities. Before appointment, they receive a recruitment pack outlining the role and expectations. Once approved, they are welcomed with an appointment letter, key documents, and early meetings with the Chair and Director of Governance to explore board culture and key issues. An induction pack and mandatory training in areas like safeguarding, GDPR, and finance ensure a strong foundation.
To build college familiarity, governors tour facilities, meet staff and students, and observe meetings before active participation. A buddy system and specialist link roles (e.g. safeguarding or finance) deepen engagement. Throughout the first year, regular check-ins, ongoing development opportunities, and an appraisal support their growth.
These are vital roles for the next phase of Hull College’s journey; ideal for professionals who want to make a tangible impact on education, the community, and the region’s future skills landscape.
Time commitment and meeting schedule
On average, the DfE expect governors to commit up to two days per month to effectively contribute to their role, including meetings, any preparation, committee involvements and on-site visits.
Hull College estimates that governors typically volunteer around two days per month to fulfil their responsibilities. While expectations may vary depending on the individual’s committee involvement or role, we encourage all prospective candidates to discuss their availability and capacity during the application process and the College has already laid out its 2025/2026 meeting schedule.
The Corporation Board meets five times per academic year, with one additional strategic away day and one SAR validation day. Committees meet between three and five times annually. Meetings are usually scheduled for Tuesdays or Thursdays at 4pm. Corporation meetings are encouraged in person at Hull College (Wilberforce Drive, Hull, HU1 3DG), though hybrid arrangements via Microsoft Teams are available. Committee meetings are primarily remote.
Some in-person engagement is recommended to build relationships, gain a deeper understanding of the college environment, and contribute effectively to the College’s strategic aims. A. Public Affairs and Stakeholder Management Trustee Role Description
Role description
The Trustee should:
- provide leadership to the Board in the area of public affairs, policy and stakeholder management. This could include a focus on PR, public affairs, external communications or local government engagement. You do not need to have experience in all areas.
- monitor decisions made at the Board in relation to Public Affairs and Policy work and ensure that they are implemented
- assist in setting the strategy of the organisation and in setting and monitoring performance against targets.
- actively participate as the key member of the sub-committee of the Board
- assist in securing additional exposure of CFAB’s work, particularly through facilitating opportunities with press, guiding digital publications (whether social media or online media opportunities) and amplifying CFAB’s voice with relevant audiences, including local and national government or supporters
As with all Trustees, this Trustee is also responsible for:
- ensuring CFAB complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
- ensuring CFAB pursues its objects as defined in its Articles of Association, and that it uses its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects
- ensuring CFAB operates within the parameters laid down by the CFAB Governance Manual
- safeguarding the reputation and values of CFAB
- ensuring the financial stability of CFAB and its effective and efficient administration
- protecting and managing the property of CFAB and ensuring proper investment of funds

Every Trustee is asked to use their specific skills, knowledge and professional experience to help the Board of Trustees collectively reach sound decisions.

B. Person Specification
The Trustee should bring to CFAB a skill mix appropriate to the governance of CFAB, including:
1. Public Affairs Strategy
- Experience developing and advising on public affairs strategies that influence policy and public service priorities.
- Understanding of how to align public affairs with organisational goals and impact measurement.
2. Policy Understanding
- Strong grasp of local government structures, priorities, and decision-making processes.
- Knowledge of policy areas relevant to the charity’s mission (e.g. safeguarding, family services, children’s welfare).
3. Stakeholder Mapping and Engagement
- Ability to identify, map, and prioritise key stakeholders including local authorities, elected officials, council executives, and public sector partners.
- Strategic thinking around managing and nurturing high-value relationships over time.
4. Local Authority Relations
- Experience working within or alongside local authorities.
- Understanding of commissioning processes, partnership frameworks, and funding mechanisms in local government.
5. Advocacy and Influence
- Experience in shaping public debate, contributing to consultations, or influencing policy outcomes.
- Confidence in representing the charity at public meetings, sector forums, or roundtables.
6. Communication Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging with senior stakeholders, writing policy briefings, and contributing to thought leadership.

- Understanding of the role of a trustee in public affairs oversight (e.g. ensuring activity is compliant with charity law).

C. Commitment
CFAB has four regular Board meetings per year of which one is held concurrent with the AGM. There is also a Marketing committee which meets four times per year, which the Trustee should attend wherever possible. Additional Extraordinary Board meetings may be called as necessary. Other trustees will participate in committees including: Finance & HR, Fundraising and Policy & Practice. Overall time commitment is approximately 2 – 3 hours a month.

The Group the Musical is a theatre in Shrewsbury (UK) and community currently rehearsing and producing, The Group, a new musical which raises awareness of Autism and disability from the perspective of a support group and its service users during its formation and development. Your commitment to us:
Governors typically devote around 12 hours a month to their roles at National Star. Some months are busier than others, due to the cycle of meetings but generally you will have 3 formal meetings (termly) plus 2 informal development sessions each year. About this role
You will be vital to the work of our ecommerce hub helping to sort, quality check and monitor donated products from our corporate partners.
- Your role may include:
- sorting donated pallets of stock ready for sale
- quality checking products to sort the good from the bad
- scanning products to trade in, such as books and CDs
- helping to pack orders to go our shops
- helping keep our warehouse tidy and our stock system accurate

- You will be in our Scope Ecommerce Hub. The hub is based at 19 to 20 Guide Street, Salford M50 1BX. We can be flexible on the times you would like to volunteer. Our hub opening times (Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm). We’d love your help for as little as 1 hour a week, but if you can give more time that would help us even more
Who we are looking for
We welcome anyone who is passionate about disability equality and willing to support our work! You must be over 18 years old. You will need to feel comfortable working in a large busy warehouse environment and be able to lift and carry items, although we have a forklift truck to assist with heavier items.
Some volunteers want to learn more about charities or about retail. Others want to make a difference to the lives of disabled people. Other volunteers are interested in our training and development opportunities. Some people join us to meet new people and make friends. Sometimes people want to help a charity shop they like shopping in, while also getting a discount online!

Trustees play a vital role in ensuring Airdrie Foodbank meets its core purpose by overseeing the management and administration of the charity and ensuring that the foodbank has a clear strategy in line with our vision and goals.
Key tasks
Fundraising Lead Trustee Responsibilities:
- to work alongside the Trustee board to set our strategic Fundraising goals and track that funds and grants are sought and applied-for to fulfil the charity’s strategy and objectives

Key Responsibilities along with the board of trustees include:
- to approve, support, and guide the charity’s purpose, vision, strategy, goals and objectives
- to manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk, and not over-commit the charity
- to ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity, responding to changes in the local community as appropriate to ensure that key risks are identified, monitored, and controlled appropriately
- to ensure appropriate financial plans are in place, budgets are monitored, and progress is evaluated
- to review and approve financial statements
- to help promote the organisation to key stakeholders and beneficiaries
- to ensure the charity has appropriate procedures to comply with current legislation and good practice, including employment, health and safety, equity, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding, and GDPR compliance/data protection
- to prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and sub-committee meetings and any Trustee away days.

Stay safe volunteers, you will play a vital role in protecting a generation of children, by helping them understand abuse and giving them the confidence to speak out if they need help. Last year in Scotland alone we spoke to more than 60 thousand children to share our vital safeguarding messages. With your help we can do more.
As a Speak out. Stay safe volunteer you will have the opportunity to:

The role
Alongside other volunteers you will visit primary schools twice a month to deliver classroom based Speak out. Stay safe workshops for children aged 5-7 and 7-11 years.

Background Information
Villa 21 is a large unstable housing settlement South of Buenos Aires. It mostly lacks paved roads and sewerage; many houses are made of perishable materials and have no running water or drainage. The neighborhood faces serious health problems, as it is located on the creek that divides the capital city of the province, and is highly contaminated, causing respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases that primarily affect children. The soup kitchen is visited by approximately 50 people from the neighborhood for lunch every day. The space is also available to support teenagers when there are volunteer teachers willing to help them.
The support from social organizations is fundamental in this very poor neighborhood, mainly because its precarious situation affects families that need to face a lack of infrastructures and serious problems of public sanitation. Indeed, many families live in houses where they have problems with light and where they don't have running water nor a drainage system, in an area which has huge weaknesses in terms of sewer systems and road pavements. Moreover, it is located near a river which is highly contaminated by the chemicals released by nearby factories, and this generates respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases that mainly affect the children. Although faced with this situation, people don't receive any help from the government to improve their standards of living that are now miserable and harmful to their health. There are some housing construction projects in the works but they are slow-coming and displacing the inhabitants that are the most affected by the contamination of the river. In addition to this precariousness, today, ambulances refuse to come into the area.
Why is this project important for the community?
The soup kitchen cooks for the kindergarten and the people from the town. Thus, this organization is based on working with families and children from first to seventh grade, supporting them in their growing and development process, with a team of professionals and social workers. This Community Center was founded in 1994 and began as a soup kitchen until it expanded into a kindergarten with the help of the mothers from the area.
The main goal of the Community Center is to offer the children's families a place of education and integral support. Moreover, the kitchen and center help to compensate these families’ economic situation. It is a place of exchange between teachers, social workers, parents and volunteers from the area and from Voluntario Global that work together for the safe upbringing of the children. It is also a place where the unemployed women from the area are able to have training sessions that take place periodically with professionals.
Role of the Volunteer
From 7:00 am to 2:00 pm, the kitchen prepares breakfast and lunch for the kids in the kindergarten and it also prepares food for the community members. The volunteer will be able to help in many tasks such as assist the women in the kitchen by washing and cutting vegetables, preparing the dessert for the children and help in the cleaning process after everything is served.
What do you learn as a volunteer?
When helping at the Soup Kitchen, you learn to appreciate the value of the small things, how to truly connect with people and the power that these relationships can have on your life and the lives of others, on the communities and the future. It doesn’t matter where you’re from, what language you speak, what kind of house you live in or what kind of job you have. In the end, we are all human and we get so mixed up in focussing on other unimportant aspects that we forget that deep down we’re all the same. You will realise that even the smallest thing you do, can make someone else's day.
How does your work impact on the community?
Your help is invaluable for the workers and for the community members because this center is an integral part of their everyday life. Furthermore, the ladies and workers would not be able to participate in this cultural exchange if there aren’t any volunteers willing to help. The women also love helping the volunteers learn a bit of Spanish because they are like family to them. Here, the volunteer can learn so much about the Argentinian culture and see how many traditional dishes are prepared. It’s a place where you can completely feel the support of a community and you never leave the kitchen without a smile on your face.
