We are River Action

We are a small and agile campaigning organisation on a mission to rescue UK rivers from a toxic cocktail of agricultural, sewage and industrial pollution and water shortages. We support community action, galvanise and mobilise public opinion, influence government policy, take legal actions and call out destructive industrial practices to incentivise changes that end river pollution and secure freshwater.

Who we are looking for

We are expanding our political influence by introducing this new position, which will work closely with our existing Policy and Advocacy Manager to bolster our strategic reach particularly in the areas of water scarcity, security and justice, sewage and chemical pollution, and water sector reform.

We are seeking a dynamic and self-motivated individual who shares our passion for protecting rivers and securing our nation’s water, food, health, jobs and economy to join our team to drive forward our policy and advocacy work. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong policy insights capable of blending analytical problem-solving with intelligent advocacy to drive meaningful change. This role requires someone to have excellent writing skills and the ability to draft complex policy documents as well as top line arguments for wider communication. 

The ideal person will bring a combination of expertise, energy and ideas to amplify our impact, holding decision-makers and polluters accountable with a professional and diplomatic approach. They will engage with influential people across the sector, government, industry and media.

What you’ll be doing

As a Senior Policy and Advocacy Manager, you  will lead the development and drafting of River Action’s overall policy strategy as well as leading on specific policy areas. You will play a leading role in shaping and advancing River Action’s political and policy influence, working closely with the Senior Management Team, Chief Executive and wider organisation to develop and execute an impactful policy and advocacy strategy.

River Action is the Co-Secretariat for the APPG on Water Pollution, offering our Policy and Advocacy Manager a unique opportunity to shape the policy direction for River Action and also to influence policy development across Parliament. 

You will also work closely with our public affairs agency who manage our daily Westminster activities. 

You will:

• Lead River Action’s development and delivery of our policy and advocacy strategy on sewage, industrial water pollution, and water scarcity 

• Collaborate with River Action’s team and external partners to ensure our collective work is underpinned by robust and forward-thinking policy analysis and evidence.

• Develop policy analysis to support campaign, communications and policy strategies, based on a strong evidence base and a sound understanding of the relevant legal and policy frameworks.

• Translate complex policy and evidence into concise documents with clear messages and compelling campaigns to engage political and policy stakeholders.

• Monitor and analyse political and policy developments, interpreting their implications and opportunities for River Action and its supporters.

• Generate analysis to enable participation in public consultation processes, including drafting high-quality and persuasive consultation responses and briefings for Westminster and Whitehall audiences.

• Increase our political influence with exciting policy interventions, ensuring River Action’s voice is heard at the highest levels of decision-making.

• Build and maintain relationships with key policymakers, civil servants, industry experts and partner organisations.

• Support grassroots community groups and third-sector partners in engaging with their local representatives for effective advocacy.

• Organise and attend key political meetings and events, including the Water Pollution APPG, stakeholder roundtables and parliamentary events.

• Manage strategic policy partnerships, including our relationship with Wildlife and Countryside Link and other third-sector organisations.

• Ensure River Action’s policy and advocacy efforts align with our creative campaigns, by making sure colleagues and spokespeople are well-briefed and communications content is well-informed to maximise reach and impact.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience:

• Experience in a senior policy and advocacy role, ideally within the environmental sector and including experience of water policy. 

• Policy and/or legislative experience, with a good understanding of the workings of the UK government and Parliamentary procedure.

• A good understanding of the UK water industry, the key UK water-related policies and the issues that are impacting our rivers, land and wildlife.

• Knowledge of the challenge of water scarcity.

• Excellent communication and writing skills with close attention to detail and the ability to produce concise and persuasive briefings, reports and consultation responses.

• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working creatively and at a fast pace with colleagues, stakeholders and partners.

The GAMH Research, Policy and Advocacy Officer is a new post that will play a central role in advancing GAMH’s global policy and advocacy agenda, helping to strengthen and elevate the focus on the health and wellbeing of men within national, regional and global policy environments. The postholder will design and deliver policy advocacy initiatives, generate high-quality research, write reports and publications, support project coordination, engage stakeholders and partners, and support communications to influence decision-makers aimed at improving health and wellbeing outcomes for men and boys within a gender equality framework. The position will work across all GAMH workstreams, with a particular focus on men’s health in Europe, prostate cancer and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programmes.

This exciting new role will is being created at a time of organisational expansion and growing interest in men’s health worldwide. It will require attendance at meetings in London and the South East of England and occasional European/international travel will also be required.

Key Responsibilities

1. Policy Advocacy and Campaign Development

• Develop and contribute to GAMH’s policy positions and advocacy on key men’s health issues, with a particular focus on men’s health in Europe, prostate cancer and HPV.
• Monitor and analyse key policy developments relevant to men’s health and the work of GAMH across prevention, early diagnosis, screening, treatment, and support.
• Support the design and delivery of advocacy strategies and campaigns targeting policymakers, professional societies, international non-governmental organisations and other international bodies.
• Support coalition and network building by GAMH to strengthen policy responses on men’s health.
• Prepare policy briefings and advocacy materials.

2. Research, Analysis and Writing

• Conduct and synthesise research on men’s health issues, including policy analysis, epidemiology, and literature reviews.
• Write high-quality accessible reports, evidence summaries, position papers and publications to support GAMH’s work.
• Identify relevant gaps in policy data and evidence relating to men’s health. 

3. Project Coordination and support

• Manage the development of a European Men’s Health report.
• Play a leading role in, and support, the development of GAMH’s Global Prostate Cancer Initiative and wider work on prostate cancer policy.

• Assist in the planning and delivery of other GAMH projects, as necessary.
• Contribute to funding proposals and reporting to donors.

4. Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships

• Support the strengthening of GAMH engagement with national men’s health networks and its members, particularly in Europe.
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across each of the relevant GAMH workstreams, including policymakers, non-governmental organisations, UN agencies, academics and researchers, patient organisations, professional bodies, advocates and industry.
• Represent GAMH at meetings, conferences, and events (as required).
• Attend and report to the GAMH Board of Trustees (as required)

5. Communications, Dissemination and Impact

• Support the dissemination of GAMH reports, campaigns, and advocacy outputs.
• Support launch event/s of GAMH and initiatives and reports.

As Head of Campaigns, you will be developing and delivering bold, integrated campaigns that drive lasting change for the UK's rivers. You'll work closely with colleagues across communications, policy, legal, fundraising and research, ensuring our work is strategically aligned and greater than the sum of its parts.

Leading River Action's Campaigns Team, you will shape the organisation's campaigning strategy, ensuring our work is innovative, evidence-led and designed to influence public opinion, hold polluters to account and secure meaningful political and systemic change. You'll create campaigns that connect compelling storytelling with community mobilisation, strategic communications, political advocacy, legal action and partnerships, ensuring every part of our work contributes towards our mission to rescue the UK’s rivers.

You'll provide strategic leadership across the full campaign lifecycle, overseeing campaign planning, delivery, budgeting, resourcing and evaluation. You'll ensure our campaigns are informed by robust evidence, guided by clear objectives and measured against meaningful outcomes, using insight and learning to continually strengthen our impact.

You will lead River Action's communications and public profile, ensuring our campaigns cut through the national conversation, inspire public action and strengthen our reputation as one of the UK's leading environmental campaigning organisations. Internally, you'll work in close partnership with the Head of Public Affairs to ensure our public campaigns reinforce and accelerate our political influencing work, while ensuring community campaigns and grassroots action inform our national priorities. River Action is looking to develop a campaign around water security in the UK to launch in 2027. Please put together a campaign brief setting out the challenges faced, how we would develop and deliver this campaign including campaign asks; campaign outcomes; public, political and legal tactics; routes for funding and resource requirements.

We are looking for two new Senior Officers to join our Policy, Public Affairs and Campaigns team. One role will focus on Policy, whilst the other on Campaigning, however there will be significant overlap between the two. Both will play a leading role in delivering Transport for All’s policy, public affairs and influencing work.

A year into our exciting rebrand from JDRF to Breakthrough T1D, we’re looking for a Senior Policy and Public Affairs Officer – Devolved Nations to help us build on this momentum.

The role of the Senior Policy and Public Affairs Officer - Devolved Nations is vital to achieving our UK-wide advocacy mission: to reduce health inequalities in type 1 diabetes, to widen access to type 1 diabetes treatments and technologies and to ensure that people with type 1 get access to emerging new treatments and future cures in the devolved nations.  

You will lead on projects with key stakeholders and high-level Parliamentarians, such as our access to treatments and early detection work, as well as people with type 1 diabetes, policy makers and researchers. You will help to deliver Breakthrough T1D’s influencing plans, improving access to and choice of type 1 diabetes treatments and technology in the devolved nations.  

Experience required 

• Experience of working successfully with politicians, their offices, Government departments, and other public affairs stakeholders to influence policy and to influence public/stakeholder discourse across the devolved nations

• Experience of leading public affairs delivery in at least one (preferably all) of the devolved nations 

• Experience in analysing Government policy in-depth and creating policy briefings  

• Experience of drafting briefings, reports and policy submissions

Job Summary

This role will lead the development, setup, and delivery of individual locations within our new hyper-local Early Diagnosis Programme designed to improve bowel cancer awareness and timely presentation in communities most affected by health inequalities. Central to the role is establishing strong partnerships - working with local cancer alliances or health boards, primary care, community pharmacies, employers, and community and faith groups - to create tailored, locally driven plans.

The post holder will oversee the design of bespoke 12-month delivery plans for each location, selecting and coordinating relevant Bowel Cancer UK interventions and ensuring all activity is grounded in local insight and evidence.

This role will be critical in delivering the first phase of the Early Diagnosis Programme, generating learning, refining the model, and laying the foundations for potential future scale-up across the UK.

Purpose of Role

The Operations Officer is a varied role that helps keep the charity’s different functions running smoothly. Working closely with a small team a typical day can be a combination of regular tasks involving prompt and careful handling of incoming communications by email, post and telephone call, responding to invoices or payment requests and preparation of letters, contracts or reports. Harris Hill has an exciting opportunity, for an experienced interim Head of Communications to support a National charity whist they recruit on a more permanent basis. 

This part time role can be 2-3dpw, on a fully remote basis. 

This is a unique opportunity to lead high-profile national campaigns, strengthening the organisations reach across the media and digital landscape, and ensuring staff remain connected, engaged, and inspired by the organisations work.

Role:

National campaigns and public engagement — including our flagship campaign

Media and profile-building — securing high-quality coverage, managing relationships with press, ambassadors, and influencers.

Audience growth and supporter engagement — expanding our network of donors, partners, and advocates

Digital and content strategy — driving a multi-platform approach that positions us as a thought leader in our field and also helps us reach the people who most need our support

Internal communications and culture — ensuring staff feel informed, connected, and part of a shared purpose

Team leadership — jointly leading a skilled communications team and working closely with senior leaders, including the Chair, the CEO and Executive Team and Trustees.

Experience:

Bring a strong track record across PR, campaigns, digital, and internal communications

Be confident leading complex, multi-channel communications activity

Experience navigating complex organisational environments with diverse operational and service functions.

Have experience translating organisational mission into clear, engaging messaging for diverse audiences

Be a collaborative leader, comfortable working in a job share arrangement and across senior teams

Combine creativity with delivery—able to move from strategy to execution at pace

Bring a strategic and pragmatic approach to marketing, with strong attention to brand consistency and discipline.

Role Overview
Stroke Association are delighted to partner with The Talent Set on a fantastic Associate Director of Marketing & Communications role.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Giving, Volunteering and Voice, this role will lead the talented Marketing and Communications team and play a critical role in shaping how the charity engages with stroke survivors, supporters, partners, policymakers and the wider public. Working closely with Executive Directors and teams across the organisation, you will develop and deliver an integrated marketing and communications strategy that advances our organisational goals and strengthens impact.

As Stroke Association builds a more agile and collaborative culture, multidisciplinary teams are embracing test-and-learn approaches, using insight and evidence to focus efforts where they can make the greatest difference. 

We’re looking for an exceptional leader who combines strategic vision with creativity, influence and collaboration. Someone who can inspire and develop a high-performing team, champion the value of marketing and communications across the organisation, and help the charity reach more people affected by stroke than ever before.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure a coherent and compelling marketing, communications and brand strategy that strengthens the charity's profile, supports organisational priorities and builds public understanding of stroke and its impact.
• Drive insight, evidence and learning to inform decision-making, enabling the continuous evolution of marketing and communications approaches, channels and activities.
• Create the conditions for marketing and communications to operate as a strategic partner across the organisation, supporting the delivery of fundraising, influencing, research and stroke support priorities.
• Champion a co-creation approach, building meaningful partnerships with colleagues, stroke survivors, volunteers, supporters and external stakeholders to shape communications, campaigns and organisational priorities
• Embed an audience-led approach that enables meaningful engagement, broadens reach and deepens connection with diverse communities.
• Ensure the voices and experiences of stroke survivors, carers and communities are authentically represented and embedded within the charity's communications, campaigns and brand narrative.

Person Specification

• Proven experience of developing and delivering organisation-wide communications and marketing strategies that support organisational objectives and drive measurable impact.
• Experience of leading and developing high-performing multidisciplinary teams, creating an inclusive, empowering and values-led culture.
• Demonstrable experience of building and protecting organisational reputation, including managing complex communications, sensitive issues and reputational risk.
• Experience of working collaboratively with senior leaders to shape organisational priorities and influence decision-making.
• Experience of developing compelling audience-led communications, campaigns and engagement approaches across multiple channels.
• Experience of working with lived experience, service users, beneficiaries or communities to shape communications, campaigns or organisational activity.
• Experience of managing significant budgets, resources and external agency relationships.
• Experience of supporting organisational influencing, campaigning or policy objectives.
• Experience of leading communications through organisational change, transformation or periods of significant growth.
