Job description

About us

Crisis is the national charity for homeless people. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.

The Digital Product team, in which the Senior Developer role sits, is responsible for developing content and functionality on the Crisis website and other platforms. We’re currently expanding our range of digital products as well as some exciting top-secret projects (!) so it’s a great time to be joining the team.

About the role

As a Senior Front-End Developer, you will be responsible for developing high-quality front-end UI and functionality to support Crisis’ fundraising, campaigning, volunteering and work to end homelessness. Your work will mainly be on the Crisis website, building on the Umbraco CMS and will include working on content such as donation forms, online galleries, digital reports and integrations with third-party services.

The role will be based in London + homeworking in line with Crisis’ homeworking policy (minimum of one day a week in the office).

About you

To be successful in this role you will have a background in web development, either agency or in-house and strong skills in html, CSS, JavaScript and some server-side language such as Net or Python. Experience in developing against a commercial CMS is essential.

You may have experience in agile, particularly using JIRA. Experience of optimising donation/payment/ecommerce journeys would be useful, as would any previous experience in design. We are also looking to strengthen our testing plan so any experience you have working with tooling such as selenium, NUnit, Browserstack or other test platforms would be an advantage.

Skills (we don’t expect you to have all of these):

HTML, CSS, Javascript, Sass, Less, Angular, Typescript, nodejs, C#, SQL

We believe diversity is a strength, and our aim is to make sure that Crisis truly reflects the communities we serve. We are actively working towards our organisation being a place where everyone can thrive and make their best contribution to our mission of ending homelessness for good. We know that the more perspectives, voices, and experiences we can bring to this work, the better. We particularly welcome applications from people who have lived experience of homelessness, and people from all marginalised groups, communities and backgrounds.

Working at Crisis

As a member of the team, you will have access to a wide range of employee benefits including:

  • Interest free loans to purchase a train season ticket or a bike or for a deposit to secure a tenancy

  • Mandatory pension scheme, with an employer contribution of 8.5%

  • 25 days’ annual leave which increases with service to 28 days

Alongside our excellent staff benefits, we will support your ongoing development to build your skills, experience and career.

When you join us, you will have the opportunity to join our staff diversity networks, which aim to champion issues across the organisation, enable staff to be their authentic and best selves and contribute to making Crisis a truly diverse organisation.
