About the Development Operations & Stewardship Manager role:
This job sits within the Museum’s Development Team, supporting a team of fundraisers to build philanthropic relationships, corporate partnerships and run National Museums Scotland’s Membership programme. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Development and be a senior member of the Development team. The post holder will bring experience and knowledge of best practice across the full Development Operations function, including CRM and supporter insight, prospect research, and financial reconciliation and reporting. They will be excited by the opportunity to embed new ways of working within the Development team and to contribute to National Museums Scotland mission.
As Development Operations & Stewardship Manager at National Museums Scotland you will:
- Ensure that the CRM system(s) support fundraising objectives, processes and reporting requirements, maximising opportunities for actionable insights that enable fundraising growth
- Analyse and use supporter data to advise the department on strategic decisions, as well as preparing financial reports and forecasts
- Devise and lead a strategic prospect research plan, aligned with strategic funding priorities
- Oversee the accurate and timely reconciliation, recording and tracking of pledges and gifts across multiple income streams and three organisations
- Develop, implement and manage the supporter Stewardship framework, ensuring aligned donor and supporter retention activity across all income streams
Skills and experience we’re looking for in our Development Operations & Stewardship Manager:
- Senior fundraising operations role in the culture, higher education or third sector
- Significant experience of working with Tessitura, Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising CRM(s)
- Significant experience of prospect research and pipeline management
- Advanced problem solving, organisational and planning skills
- Knowledge of the fundraising trends and data-led innovation in fundraising operations
- Strong financial acumen, with the ability to analyse financial information quickly and accurately

Reporting & Compliance

- Work closely with the Programme Manager and Capital Appeal Manager to develop well-costed, fundable programmes aligned with strategic priorities and with measurable outcomes
- Work closely with wider internal teams, including Programmes, Service Delivery, Finance, and Communications, to gather information, align messaging, and ensure funding requirements are met
- Collaborate with colleagues across other income streams to maximise cross-team opportunities and share insights on high-value prospects
- Ensure accurate record-keeping and tracking of relationships, proposals, and outcomes using the Charity’s CRM system
Knowledge & Experience
- Proven track record of securing five and six figure gifts from trusts, foundations, or institutional funders, including cold prospects, demonstrating confidence in donor acquisition
- Skilled in network mapping, prospect research and business development
- Demonstrable experience of working on major capital appeals or high-value fundraising campaigns
- Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive and tailored funding applications
- Strong research and analytical skills to identify funding opportunities and align them with strategic priorities
- Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to build and sustain long-term partnerships
- Experience using CRM systems to manage and track donor relationships and activities
- Experience in securing multi-year funding (desirable)

As the Supporter Engagement & Legacy Manager you will play a key role as we seek to reignite our legacy marketing programme and grow overall individual giving income to help ensure long-term support for those facing financial difficulty. You will be responsible for the project management and implementation of all supporter engagement activity, acquisition, and legacy marketing activities, ensuring all activity is optimised and campaigns include enhanced digital and social media content.
Reporting to the Co-Heads of Supporter Engagement and managing the Supporter Engagement Officer, you will develop a multi-year plan to rebuild legacy income and a pipeline of legacy supporters, including re-engaging the EFH care home staff and major donors.
You will be responsible for supporting the strategic direction, operational plans and effective management of Turn2us’s giving programmes from individuals including appeals, regular giving and legacies, maximising net income from new and existing income streams.
The successful candidate will have experience of managing direct marketing campaigns in a charity environment as well as proven ability to manage successful legacy marketing campaigns. They will have significant experience stewarding individuals and legacy supporters and be adept at communicating the impact of donations, as well as having line management experience. The ability to make a strong case for supporting Turn2us’ key areas of work is crucial, as is an aptitude for proactively increasing acquisition and retention rates.
The post holder will also be a self-starter who is comfortable building new strategies from a relatively small pool of supporters and is experienced testing different tactics to establish the best practice for Turn2us.
