The Head of IT Support is responsible for UNISON’s entire technology infrastructure, and provision of systems and services to all our staff, members and lay officers.

High-quality customer service to all our users is central to this role. To this end, you will ensure UNISON’s IT infrastructure is reliable and secure; that systems are modern and effective; and that we embrace innovation, taking advantage of new developments to further the union’s objectives.

The Head of IT Support controls a substantial budget (£10m), and needs to balance providing the best technological solutions for UNISON while ensuring members’ money is spent wisely for their benefit.

A team of in-house IT management and support staff will report to you. You will also manage our IT Managed Service provider, and direct relationships with suppliers of other IT services.

The National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) is seeking a proactive and skilled Media Officer to join our Communications and Public Affairs team. This is a newly created role, offering the opportunity to help shape and strengthen NFCC’s voice in the national conversation around fire and rescue services.

Reporting into the Media and External Affairs Manager, you will play a central role in growing our media presence and positioning NFCC as the go-to source for journalists covering national fire and rescue issues. You will help to ensure our messages are clear, timely, and authoritative across all platforms.

Key responsibilities:

Serve as a point of contact for incoming media enquiries.

Draft high-quality, publication-ready communications content – including press releases, news articles, opinion pieces and other engaging content. 

Support NFCC’s campaigns and policy initiatives by securing media coverage and developing strong relationships with journalists and editors.

Take ownership of key communications tools and systems, including media monitoring and audit of coverage.

Participate in an out-of-hours communications rota as part of NFCC’s communication support function (with some out of hours support – see job description for more information).

Confidence in handling media enquiries and building positive relationships with the press.

About the opportunity

As an Impact Analyst, you will work within a team across multiple social impact projects. An example of one of the programmes you will become a key part of delivering is the Single Homelessness Prevention Service (SHPS) which is a programme that prevents the next generation of rough sleepers.

The programme supports people to sustain an existing tenancy by negotiating with landlords/ family members, or providing coaching to empower people to do so. Where needed, we help them to find and secure a new home, typically in the private rented sector. SHPS services also seek to prevent the mental trauma associated with homelessness by preventing the escalation of the homelessness journey to crisis point.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include.

· Overseeing all data related aspects of the programme including data collection, extraction, cleaning, analysis, reporting, and presentation.

· Manage all Power BI reporting tables and system with support from central teams.  

· Gathering and analysing quantitative and qualitative data to measure the impact of service innovations for the programmes you are working across. Produce regular reports and insights that aid decision making to continuously improve programme design.

· Taking initiative to propose and implement relevant analyses to the project to maximise positive impact for participants with the programmes you are supporting.

· Building relationships and working at times directly with Delivery Partners (VCSE organisations who are delivering the frontline services for the programme) to ensure they are able to use the data systems accurately and effectively,

· Identifying opportunities for process automation and improving utilisation of management data by colleagues across the programme.

· Work with system developer to manage system changes and improvements.

· Lead the set-up of a new database and associated new contract mobilisation activities.

· Provide research and data to support the development of new interventions. 

· Produce monthly board packs for programmes and provide minutes of meetings.

·  Support bid submissions with development and growth leads.

· Engaging with other analysts across BOP to share learnings from your own project and implement learnings from other projects in your own.

We are looking for a passionate and empathetic individual who has the skills, knowledge and experience in coordinating casework and undertaking reporting of data to stakeholders. The IPO will undertake and be responsible for a range of administrative functions to advance and simply casework flow under the Sub-Regional Immigration Advice Service (SIAS) project. The IPO must have the ability to communicate effectively with referring agencies and stakeholders on a regular basis. The IPO will organise and present data to funders and others on behalf of NKLC. The IPO would have a good general understanding of Legal Aid casework, and the regulatory obligations set by the SRA and IAA.

The IPO will work closely with the Immigration Supervising Solicitor (ISS), Director and general admin team to progress and maintain the SIAS project. The IPO will manage referrals, liaise with the immigration team, and undertake a variety of administrative functions to maintain and resolve associated issues within the immigration department. Where appropriate, the IPO will arrange appointments, attend triage sessions off-site and liaise with referring agencies to ensure that caseworkers can advance casework as efficiently as possible.

Whilst the post is open to all, we are particularly keen to attract candidates who are from backgrounds currently underrepresented by the law and who have experienced some of the issues many of our client’s face.

The successful candidate will join our busy Governance team, reporting to the Head of Governance and working closely within a core team of two officers and two senior officers. 

As a Senior Governance Officer, you will provide high quality governance support to the senior executive, Board and Committees as well as other stakeholders across the Fund engaging pro-actively with other teams and stakeholders across the Fund.  You will have a good understanding of governance in the public or voluntary/charity sector and be able to quickly familiarise yourself with the Fund’s complex governance framework.  You will be expected to use your knowledge and judgment to provide prompt and high-quality advice and feedback. 

You will show leadership in identifying, implementing, and maintaining effective governance processes and best practice, bringing changes where needed. 

A team player you will take pride in your work and the work of the Governance team. 

Day to day responsibilities will include:

• You will work strategically, managing complex meeting schedules and governance processes. 
• You will be attentive to the needs of the business and be customer focussed.
• You will ensure Fund governance processes and procedures are proactively and effectively managed and supported.
• You will establish strong networks across the Fund to ensure you understand and respond to the needs of stakeholders.
• You will be able to write clear information and minutes in a prompt manner.
• You will be recognised across the Fund as a reliable resource on governance matters, providing guidance and support as needed.
• You will be expected to manage your workload effectively, work autonomously, and consistently deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
• You will provide advice to Governance Officers and support their development.
  
  The ideal candidate:

• You will have experience of working in governance, or a governance-related position. 
• You will be reliable, highly responsive, flexible and maintain high attention to detail and pro-actively identify and address gaps.
• You will be able to manage multiple priorities, handling complex schedules, and ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and on time.
• You will have excellent communication skills to convey complex information clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally, to a range of customers including senior stakeholders.
• You will be experienced and skilled in writing quality meeting minutes promptly after meetings. 
• You will have the ability to work well in a team environment, collaborating effectively with colleagues to achieve common goals.

The role is hybrid and UK based. However you will be able to travel to London for team’s meetings and occasionally to other locations within the UK to support governance meetings when required. 

Interview Date: 27th May onwards - two stage - online/face to face

Location: UK - Hybrid working with a requirement to occasionally travel to the London office and other locations in England and across the UK to support meetings when needed. Work pattern and location will be agreed with the successful candidate. The role can be based at any of our UK offices, these are Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle and Newtown

Essential criteria

• Demonstrate a good understanding of governance processes and requirements through prior experience working in a similar role in the public or voluntary/charity sector.
• Have strong communication skills, verbal and written, and excellent organisational skills.
• Have experience in supporting and engaging with senior stakeholders, with the ability to show initiative and lead in some areas of work.
• Demonstrate a proactive and adaptable approach and the ability to think innovatively to solve problems.

Desirable criteria

• Knowledge of public sector governance and environment.
• Experience in working collaboratively within a team and supporting others.
• Understanding of project management.
