Job description

Join our experienced and passionate team of coaches who, in partnership with local churches, deliver the Spear Programme, equipping and empowering unemployed 16 – 24 year olds to overcome disadvantage and turn their lives around by moving into sustainable work or further education:


• Spear team support

The Supply Coach will act as a stand-in coach to support Spear teams across London, as well as in current and planned regional centres (Brighton and Leeds).  This role will therefore suit someone who is comfortable working in a spontaneous way and enjoys variety, able to fit into existing teams with ease.

• Delivery of Spear Foundation

You will prepare and coach Spear Foundation sessions and 1-1s with trainees, to ensure that young people are engaged, retained and work-ready by the end of this 6-week initial phase of the programme.  You will need to be confident leading groups with a warm and engaging working style, and able to manage behaviour effectively.

• Delivery of Spear Career

Supporting Spear centres with the delivery of weekly Spear Career sessions and running application workshops with past Trainees as well as maintaining records and reporting on outcomes. You will also support with building employer links for trainees and the running of ‘Hire Me’ recruitment events.

Coaching Team Support

Supporting Spear Centre Managers with preparing and customising coaching notes, as well as with building local employer and supporter networks.

Supporting in the training and development of Graduate Coaches by modelling excellent coaching in the Training Room and giving regular feedback.

Consulting team support

You will have the opportunity to continually engage in professional development and so a desire to grow as a coach in a variety of settings will be required. You will have the opportunity to grow as an Associate Coach with Resurgo Consulting, to be trained and deployed to coach on their wider corporate coaching programmes with corporates and not-for-profit organisations on a range of management, feedback and culture programmes, as well as our flagship Coaching for Leaderships course. Applicants with experience in different sectors and a desire to grow as a corporate coach are therefore welcomed.

Active Participation in Christian Mission and Faith

You may be asked to support with events at Spear partner churches, including Spear celebrations and speaking at churches on Sundays. You will also be expected to contribute to and lead regular prayer meetings and demonstrate spiritual leadership as per Resurgo’s Christian ethos, working alongside church staff to support the missional aspect of the work of the church.

Person Specification

• Qualifications at degree level or equivalent

• Dynamic and engaging coach with experience of and enthusiasm for the practice of coaching, and a desire to develop as a coach, together with a minimum of a year’s experience in training and development

• Experience of and a heart to continue working with disadvantaged young people, and commitment to transforming urban communities

• Active Christian faith and ability to personally represent the Christian values of Resurgo

• Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with a sense of humour, fun and high emotional intelligence

• Highly self-motivated with the ability to lead others effectively

• Exercises initiative, with good time management and the ability to work well under pressure and prioritise workload

• Accurate and efficient in typing and work methods, with competence in IT and excellent organisational skills
