NACCOM is recruiting a new permanent External Affairs Manager to lead the work of our small but highly impactful External Affairs team.
About the role:
NACCOM is a national network of over 135 frontline organisations and charities across the UK, working together to end destitution amongst people seeking asylum, refugees and other migrants who aren’t able to access public funds because of their immigration status.
We do this by campaigning collectively for a fairer, more humane immigration system that doesn’t leave people destitute, and by sharing our learning, innovation, and resources across our membership to increase the level of accommodation provision and support the network is able to provide.

Key role information:
Hours: Full-Time (35 hours) or Part-Time (28 hours) per week

Job purpose:
The External Affairs Manager will work closely with the Director and provide vital support to NACCOM and its members by:
- Ensuring the strategic planning, management and alignment of communications, policy, research, campaigns, and advocacy as part of the External Affairs function at NACCOM.
- Ensuring NACCOM’s external affairs functions feed from and into our network development work and our Community Ambassador / Research programme
- Growing and safeguarding NACCOM’s brand identity, integrity and strategic positioning across all our external channels, networks and audiences.
- Line-managing and supporting the Policy and Research Co-ordinator, Community Research Facilitator and part-time Communications Co-ordinator (currently covered by a freelancer) as well as managing any external consultants NACCOM works with across the External Affairs function.
- Along with the Director, acting as spokesperson for NACCOM.
- Overseeing the spend against budget for External Affairs-related work.
- Representing NACCOM at key, high-level meetings and coalitions, including with journalists, decision-makers and partners.

The Role
As part of our ongoing strategy for growth and national impact, SCAA is seeking a motivated, strategic and creative individual to take ownership of our marketing and communications function — helping raise the profile of the service, strengthen brand visibility, and support our ambitious income goals. The Marketing and Communications Manager will be responsible for the strategic oversight and development of SCAA’s brand, marketing and communications function. They will lead and manage a small in-house team as well as external consultants and contractors, as required — ensuring that all content, campaigns and communications align with our brand, engage our audiences effectively, and support organisational goals across fundraising, awareness and supporter engagement. With a strong focus on brand management, digital growth, and content oversight, this role will ensure that SCAA’s voice is consistent, compelling and clearly connected to our ambition that no one in Scotland should die because help cannot get there in time.
This role will be based either in Perth, at Scone Airport, or at our Aberdeen base at Aberdeen Airport, where our emergency response helicopters and operational crew are located. The usual hours and days of work will be Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, however this role may involve occasional evening or weekend work, as well as the occasional requirement to provide media on-call cover. SCAA also supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
As part of a dynamic, purpose-driven team, you will work closely with fundraising, operations, senior leadership and frontline crew — ensuring our communications reflect the life-saving impact of our work and inspire support across Scotland.
About You:
- Previous experience in a marketing and communications management role.
- Demonstrable expertise in digital marketing, including website optimisation, SEO, email marketing and paid social.
- Hands-on experience using key digital tools such as Google Ads, Google Analytics 4 (GA4), and Google Tag Manager (GTM) to manage, track and evaluate performance.
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and overseeing campaign delivery and creative production.
- Familiarity with CRM systems and segmentation tools to support targeted communications.

What’s the job?

As part of the work to support the integration of a leading University in London, the postholder will work closely with the HR Policy & Projects Manager in the review, development, and implementation of a new HR policy framework. We run the Churchill Fellowships, a unique programme that supports UK citizens to find new solutions worldwide for today’s most pressing challenges.
Every year we fund over 100 new Fellows to discover the latest ideas and best practice in any practical issue they care passionately about, anywhere in the world. The topics they explore cover every aspect of society and are often informed by their own lived experience. They meet leading practitioners, encounter cutting-edge projects and gather their findings in a published report. - Salary c. £32,500-£35,000 per annum (5 days per week / 36.5 hours)

Standard working hours are 36.5 hours a week 9.30am until 5.00pm, Monday to Thursday and from 9.30am until 4.00pm on Friday, including a paid lunch break of one hour.
We have embraced the benefits of working from home and at the same time, we value the contribution of face-to-face contact in building teamwork, collaborating with your colleagues, exchanging ideas and know-how, and for work efficiency. We therefore operate a hybrid working policy, where staff can work from home if they wish, however everyone is required to work in the office a minimum of 1 to 2 days a week with Tuesdays as the core day for regular whole team meetings.

Recruitment Process
We hope to meet initially with as many candidates as possible, however where demand is unusually high, we may not be able to meet everyone.
If your skills and experience are relevant to the role, you will likely meet with a member of the HR Team to talk through any questions you may have, and for us to find out a bit more about you.
You will then be asked to submit a technical task, for review by the panel prior to selecting the shortlisted candidates for interview, further details will be provided in the initial conversation.
Once the advertising has closed, we will invite the shortlisted candidates to a formal in-person interview on the 15th July 2025, with the view to appointing the Junior Salesforce Administrator as soon as possible after that. The successful candidate will ideally start in September 2025.
